How in the world will you know who the first 250 contestants to earn the AXE trophy are? It's an in-game trophy... is there a timestamp on that trophy in the game that's being submitted in the background? I got the trophy over two weeks ago.

a few points (hopefully I can manage to make this coherent.)

1. The whole 250 T-Shirt Trophy thing mentioned on the blog at blog.us.playstation.com/.../ they mention that the first NNN players to get that trophy get a shirt. Is that post contest start/pre contest start/etc. This is not overly important to me, but I'm curious because I'd love a shirt, which leads us to...

2. I love FWE... There's just something about this mode that feels 'pure' and 'good' to me. When I'm playing FWE, all the troubles of the world just melt away like I'm a leaf meandering in a river. I was hoping to get a polo embroidered with a crate, but I don't want to do it without some sort of official sanctioning(which I don't believe you would be able to post here without consulting suits) and artwork. Any chance you guys can make some 'official pain artwork' for those of us interested in using it for personal use? Obviously, it'd end up on cafepress eventually, but is' just a win for you as it might draw more people into it. Anyways, just a thought.

3. (no connection to above) Will having to pay for the theme contribute to the ability of you guys to add trophies to pain? I'm gonna buy it no matter what, as I'm a good little sheeple... BAAAAAAA... *faint*.... crap, I must be a goat...

4. (also, no connection) I've played a few players over the months online that were mutantlike in skill, but had no trophies, etc. I suspect they're either ACTUAL mutants using pseudonyms, or part of the team using aliases. I'm not asking for names, but have you heard of anyone I may have played, and/or do you have staffers that do this on occasion? I tried to question one of them the other night, and only got a 'not bad' and 'later' as responses. This is just a curiosity thing... I plan on keeping such occurrences under wraps to allow these players the option of doing things under their own free will.

Hey, gang! I'm just writing today to let you know that I think you guys are doing a great job, and I continue to enjoy the add-ons you build onto this masterpiece.

I come to you with ideas and kind suggestions toward possible improvement/enhancement of the game. I think some of these are great notations, and I hope you'll consider them seriously:

1) Recommended DLC characters: Lawyer, nerd, sports player, magician, dominatrix or a military soldier.
2) How about free alternate outfits for all the other characters?
3) A universal Stats screen that can be accessed from the Pain Main Menu. This screen would track stats such as: Number of launches, character usage percentage, favorite character, favorite environment, miles traveled, games played (each mode, each difficulty)...and maybe real-time counters on accumulation-related trophies.
4) How about the possibility of posing in-flight between collisions? To add another Stylin' combo or two?

I have noticed some bugs, also, and I'm curious as to whether other gamers have noticed them. Could these be fixed?

1) In Knockin' Blocks, when you land in the water, the sound effect is incorrect. A metal crash or glass breaking is heard, rather than a hard splash. (I haven't check whether this also goes for Fortress.)
2) Sometimes when I Super Ooch as the character's lost all momentum, the Super Ooch does not register. The character just stays there. Isn't the Super Ooch supposed to "revive" the character?
3) During gameplay, the character vocals sometimes overdub themselves. Sometimes he/she will say two things at once. There was a time when a character's line kept looping indefinitely until I restarted the game from the Sony menu.
4) Lastly, I feel that the difficulty related to acquiring some Sony trophies is a bit steep. I believe some Bronzes should be Silvers and some Silvers should be Golds. I know some gamers learn faster than others. But I feel that the skill measurement should be tweaked just a bit toward those of us whose skills are "below average".

I will try hooking up with you, I've been some what of a social butterfly since I dumped my girlfriend and kicked her out of the house. There was a lot I have been missing. Anyway, betweem TonyB and myself we probably have literally racked up over 300 discos. I had a total of 15 yesterday and the one guy who had a 100 host rating, launch into the wrong target twice to end the game and least he died with dignity and didn't disco, I think he gave up when I put up 5.3 mil and died with a minute on the clock.

why is the AXE contest not for every one I bought all dlc I play likr crazy and have gotten many a friend to buy pain as well.

And here I am barred from the contest I am really starting to hate sony and there constantly putting canada on the back burner I have spent hundreds on sony and this s+!t keeps happening were always excluded.

I use AXE and buy only sony brand electronics and promote pain to every one I meet tell me why I am excluded please all products are available here in canada so I do not understand why we can't participate.

I have one question about the official rules.

It says that the first 250 will get a t-shirt. My question is, will we still be eligible for the t-shirt if we delete the first video that we uploaded and upload a new one in its place.

Because as soon as I read the post on the Playstation blog about the contest I rushed to my PS3 and quickly got the required trophy and uploaded a quickly made not-so-great replay to youtube so I could be in the first 250.

Would I be able to delete my first not-so-great replay and upload a much better one and still be able to get the t-shirt?(accepting that my first uploaded video was within the first 250)

I know its kind of confusing, I really hope you can answer me this as I REALLY want a PAIN t-shirt.

@Travis - I'm no trophy whore so I haven't even looked at the AXE trophy requirements, but how are they to determine the first 250 entrants? If it's supposed to be done with the editor then what about the clowns who rushed to get that trophy without making a vid? Are they hosed or can they just redo it without the notification that says you've achieved it?
Dammit man we need SPECIFICS!

PS... Sorry to double-post but I do feel kinda bad for my European/Canadian/all other PAINsters abroad. I've met some very cool players from outside the USA and to me PAIN transcends all physical borders.
We're all just one big PAIN lovin' community.

It's easy for me to say this but try not to let this kill it for you guys ok. I can totally understand your beef though. I would not like to feel left out on something that I've dvoted sooo much time to.

Hang in there guys - it's still the same great game.

@Obsy: It sucks because I would love to have a T-shirt or whatever merchandise they could throw our way but at the same time I understand that this is some AXE sponsored deal and as such it's limited to the audience they want to invest money in right now. Kinda like how he isn't all AXE'd up here en Europe even though AXE is sold every freaking where. But hey, thems the facts, so it's okay. It kinda sucks that Sony is such a big machine now that Travis can't even make merchandise happen without having rescue a princess from a dragon and whatnot. I would kill for a Plat trophy keychain or something like that. Something that says PAIN to other PAINsters but regular mortals wouldn't know what was. That's why I hate most gaming merchandise, it's like a freaking neon sign saying "I'm a nerd" instead of looking like contemporary fashion but with a cool logo or something.

@David: You need to go to the regular Playstation site and log in and change your nick, it did this to me once too, it just took my first name because it didn't have my nickname all of a sudden.

@Travis: I thought about it and I still don't like the sparkles, do you have an ETA on the pain theme coming? Will it be worldwide like PAIN is or when-the-eff-ever like everything else?

Anyway, I came up with a play station home idea for PAIN.

The home site can consist of the in-game environments!

In downtown, you can eat at the manhole, ride the subway, and watch Jarvis get launched! (In AI code)

In the abusement park, you can ride the rides, get some food, win soveniers, and even dance with the beaver mascot! Watch Kenneth get launched! (AI again)

In the movie lot, you can watch movies get filmed, create a movie of your own and save to ps3 or youtube, meet the Hoff himself, and watch Buzz get launched!(AI once again lol)

In the museum, you can see the various exhibits, a game video in the space exhibit, ride the escalators, and watch Andy Dick or George Takei get launched!(AI)

that has been a problem since the replay editor was added. if you don't want to lose your replays you have to save them. they recently changed it so that the replay cuts off instead of freezing so you are less likely to save it after it gets screwed up.

I must have spent hours on the beach at the north end just by the shop, getting excited over the faintest of ripples thinkin that I would see Nessie. It never appeared (surprise surprise). The house we were in was at the top of a valley sorry glen and one night we all sat at the top shouting our heads off and playing with the echoes. Then a police car came along the bottom road stopped and turned on the spotlight, we all laid flat not moving until they drove off, That was nearly 20 years ago now, bloody hell where does the time go?

@joeseph - Crackin me up dude. Sounds like you are taking this contest very seriously. I always appreciate your props but for this contest I'm not holding my breath to think I'd win it. i'd like to say thanks, i know its not your fault, but i'll believe it when i see it, ive been patient for so long, i cant get my $50 back for the disc, i tried, so to trade it in and buy all the downloadeable version, id still be ripped off, so far ive invested over $70 into this game, and its almost been a month that i cant use it online, cant use the new characters, and cant use the museum

Last night I had a dream that a Ninja Turtle was a launchable character. And ya know what? It worked.

That was actually a pretty normal dream compared to what I usually have. Before that dream, I dreamt that a fat guy wearing a see through body suit filled with shredded cheese, was dancing to "Man in the Mirror" in front of a grocery store.

I'm finally back to 100%! It was kind of difficult getting gold on STM PAiNful since before today I only played enough STM to unlock PAiNful. After getting Monkey on Monkey I immediately proceeded to Knight at the Museum and FWE to finish off Zoom Raider.

The new characters are great! To be honest Granny grosses me out almost as much as Andy Dick in drag. But Ivan is great! I expected him to have the same accent as the STM chimp. I don't know why though since I knew he was Russian. And I love Le Toot! He may be my new favorite launchable.

Now that we have the mime and granny down WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LAUCH SPUNKY!? The community demands it! I think it was Coke who said that Idol Minds would try to get KRATOS into PAiN if the community demanded it. But Kratos would not work in a humorous game like PAiN. We have been demanding the original PAiN character Spunky for months now and you guys are not budging! What, did the guy who did the voice of Spunky die or something? Did he die on the operating table getting another liver transplant? Thats the only reason I can see to avoid making him launchable.

I earned the AXE trophy the first day it was available. The following day, I earned it again as it had mysteriously disappeared from my trophy collection. I haven't played Pain in over a week though as Arkham Asylum has consumed my time for gaming, so I don't know if it was reset again for me to have the opportunity to earn a Pain t-shirt. I want a shirt, dammit.

I have to say, Granny is one of the sickest, most twisted things you have done so far in PAIN, and I applaud you for it. She has quickly become my favorite character - something about that left butt cheek hanging out makes me laugh every time.

@Matt: You know when I saw the design for Fanny I was like OH SWEET JESUS WHY IS THE BUTT CHEEK OUT? But as started to stare at it well… it became oddly hypnotic. I personally like the fact that she shows Tati how to “drop it like it’s hot”. Lorine don’t lie you love it.

@THitter: Dynamic means a lot of things. But you haven’t told me what you think it means. You just told me what you believe it should NOT mean.

@Vyrastas: We will be making at least one more Dynamic theme for PAIN. Any ideas? I’m open. We didn’t have a lot of time on the first one. Just so you know the Dynamic PAIN theme has time of day (the lighting changes downtown in the window pane). The monkey clock keeps accurate time and every hour Aliens do a flyby.

Take a look at the LBP dynamic theme and note how it manages to change over time. It's unfortunate that Sony chose dynamic to describe the themes. For me, an animated background or a video that loops is a bit of a disapointment at $3.00. Do a google on Screen Antics Johnny Castaway screensaver by Serria online. That was what I was hoping for in a dynamic theme.
I'm hoping this was just your first shot and you didn't have a lot of time.
I guess I was just expecting more from the twisted folks at IdolMinds.

Imagine Brock Lee from the side.

His fro flowing in the wind.

Then random characters fly towards him.

He then does a kick then uppercut, then repeats.

Maybe throw in some brock lee phrases and other character screams.

Probably too complex though.

That's understandable if you guys didn't have much time to work on one. Ideas for a different dynamic theme... how about your TV screen is one of the panes of glass in Downtown and you're facing the launcher from the environment's perspective. You see someone get into the launcher, helped by the other characters, then occasionally launched offscreen while the other characters cheer and wince at something you can't see... then eventually the launcher adjusts and launches right at you and your screen cracks like it's glass and falls apart. Other characters walk pass your screen on occasion... the mime, Ed, Fannie... and the glass is swept away by the custodian from Abusement Park (is that Ned? I forget), and then they start launching again and it repeats. Night would be the same but maybe with different characters and aliens going by in the night sky. One could even come in close and use a beam to suck up one of the normal launchable characters.

I actually really like Vyrastas idea for the dynamic theme. I also wasn't crazy about the first one. I've switched back to the littlebigplanet theme even though I don't like that game even close to as much as PAIN.

So I bought and caught myself up with PAIN (ha ha I ryhmed :p) and I quite frankly love Le Toot. Especially the Goldfish movement, and his long and lanky arms make for excellent runs. I have finally decided to come out of my PAIN shadow...does anyone want to play a game of darts?

There was a new costume for Ginger in the new Dynamic Theme (I think of Batman when saying that :p) and she had a biker chick costume on. Or is this a new character? Will this be released with the new Cowgirl?

Anyone know if you can play horse and trauma in environments besides downtown and amusement park in order to get the pain and mane xmb trophy? Just asking because at the time the trophies came out museum, sore spots, and movie studio didn't exist. I'd like to use the other environments as well to get the trophy for variety, but will focus on just the 2 for a while if not.

@Travis - I have an idea for a Dynamic Theme... Instead of a close-up like the 1st one, do a panorama of the Amusment Park with the rides going and people running around... and maybe show it from the side, so you can see Jarvis (or Smooth Jarvis for more AXE Bucks!) getting launched on the hour!

i'm just glad to have fun tho, a PAIN t-shirt does seem cool.

my kids do like the monkey very much. they laugh at his "BOOTY" "as my kids say" i only bought him this week. i'll get the others as well. this game is fun. it has everything for everyone.

Thanks. I admit, I truly suck at tossing games... I managed to learn the tosses to get platinum in MT, and then spent like 3 hours straight to get it. I actually had a harder time getting the all tosses break glass trophy than plat club. Amazingly, it's a great weight off my shoulders to know I could get King of Pain. I'm only the CT stuff away from all the AP trophies... just gotta get Plat. Club in CT.

I'm having a lot of fun with all the new stuff that's coming out. But I can't stress this enough, give us more unlockables. I love that stuff guys! Ed and Buzz are the only unlockable characters we've gotten and we need more! Even if it's just costumes it would be fun. I could go for a few more Jarvis costumes. I completely enjoyed unlocking all of Hoff and Mr. Dicks costumes.Holla back Travis!

The fixes that you have done for Hot n Cold tmer, Air Attack in FWE Abusement Park and Limp Wrist in Downtown are these to be released via the little "updates" part of PAIN or are they part of the next BIG download?

Ok, what is up with my online profile? I've had it reset again. I am perpetually under 30 games played total. Something somewhere is resetting my game counts for some reason. I suspect when I play a game some/all of it will return (the skill levels anyways), but I haven't the slightest idea how much I've played now.

I have not played pain for a bit now I just can't get in to it anymore.
ever since I found out that I was not eligible for the contest because I am canadian.
How can I support a game that excludes me from a contest because of my location.
How can you even call this a contest with half the pain community not eligible? The person who wins might only do so because the person who is truly deserving was not eligible.
I am sure it boils down to some legal bs or the cost blah blah blah,
But in that case there should have been a contest created and designed so that all ardent players could be eligible not just a select few.
However now that the rules have been set for the current U.S only contest. I feel that an equivalent contest/promotion should be offered to those regions that were excluded.

I have a question. I should have got the King of Pain trophy. Frequent Flyer was my last in game to get for DT. i got it..but nothing popped up after. Thank you for the ever expanding content that you have been releasing for PAIN - the new characters and Museum are incredible.

I have to agree with Hastur, though, the BR game has been out for over a month now, and even though I don't own the disc, I think I would be mighty upset that this fabled patch has yet to show itself. The patch has been promised since the BR disc was released, but there is nary a word about it lately here in the forum. These people paid good Euros and have yet to be able to experience the awesomeness that is Online PAIN!

I also wanted to express my dissapointment in the PAIN super theme. I realize that it was pushed out quickly, but it is the only PAIN item that I have purchased that I feel was a waste of my money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not too worried about $4, but that money would have gone to Takei, and something else, and I would have been much happier with my purchase. To date, I have purchased every bit of DL content for PAIN, and feel that it has been money well spent, as I rarely even play other games. I'm addicted to your PAIN - hence the reason I spent the money on the theme - you had yet to let me down - but that theme is kind of weak-sauce.

I can't wait to see what you all have up your sleeves for the next couple months. Can you at least let us know if we have any special goodies to look forward to for Halloween?

I paid for the museum and Knockin' Bloks the day they were released, and I'm still waiting to play those !!!

you need to get into the plat club for mime toss , stm and fwe , as they give an in-game trophy , which is in downtown so you need those
and you dont need the george takei in-game trophies , there unlockable's , not downtown trophies

Wow...i just got it. Crazy!!!!! A while back i accidentally shut my ps3 off while it was saving..and it corrupted my save file for the game, which means i had to start over with nothing..i had A LOT, too..not just for Downtown..but all the other boards as well...i almost didn't even do it cause i was so mad cause i put a crazy amount of time into the game. Anyway, it kept all my XMB trophies since they're online...but i just thought to myself i'll retry the 'grenade a maid' and 'trill' trophies even though it said i had them..and i just did that and 'King of Pain' popped up!! 100%...finally!!!!!!

@ Everyone entering the contest:

Maybe save yourself some time and effort. The video up at the top of this board just say's " Make sure your 'launch' is funny or difficult..." It doesn't mention your 'run', just say's launch.

On the link for official rules it say's entries based on Difficulty (score) and Humor. Here http://www.us.playstation.com/AxePainContest09

Launch seems to make more sense now because who wants to sit through thousands of replays up to 4 minutes each.

I'm not 100% positive so it'd be nice if somebody from Sony could confirm this.

And also explain how 'the first 250 to get the Smooth Jarvis trophy in-game' will be determined for t-shirts.

@Non-US'ers: Seriously, get over it. It's AXE US that's the sponsor. They are targeting US citizens with a contest, nothing more, nothing less. It's just the same old "US gets everything, Europe gets nothing" as they always have feeding us. It is unfortunate that it has taken so long for the BD patch. An incompatibility notice would have been appropriate to prevent people from shelling out their hard earned money for something they cannot use - albeit temporarily. This strikes me as being quite a low act.

As the US market kicks back and enjoys the fun, the European market is kept outside, waiting for the keys to the front door. The sad fact is that they have already bought their right to enter.

If there are problems, there are simple ways to appease the customers - communication. Leaving such important information to an obscure blog, designed for a US market, is quite rude and ignorant.

I do not blame Travis at all, but someone has to answer for such a mess.

It would be easy to accept if it was a terrible game - but as 'Pain' rises to such great levels of quality, I expect better attention to its customers.

Yes, I must admit, I'm a tad disappointed.

Pain was never intended to be released on disk so I am guessing that the updates are different from the downloaded game. As for always leaving Europe to last that ain't true, over the last 2 years a couple of newly released Pain content has come to the UK first.

All of those fixes I posted so far should be out in a big patch. They are going through test right now so you shouldn't have to wait to long.

For Limp Wrist if you have over 1000 monkeys you just have to hit 1 for it to unlock.

@European BD People: The BD Patch will be released this week. When it comes to patches we have to wait in a queue before we are tested and released. 1,000 pardons we are now in the hopper.

@Jason: You can blame me. I don’t mind taking lumps for things. Occasionally I freakin deserve it. We do the best we can. Sometimes the process here at Sony takes way longer than the actual work to fix an issue. Oddly enough it’s done to protect the consumer. Often, it just ends up making you guys mad at us. Patch/Update process is something that is always getting changed at Sony. We are getting better.


@Everyone: Look, I am not in control over the contest RULES. AXE is a US product and therefore we have to abide by the rules. It’s not like I am in some dark boardroom thinking how can I piss off everyone playing PAIN by excluding the rest of the world. I also cannot change the rules just because a few of you guys don’t like it. No amount of ire or bitterness is going to change legal contest rules. What I can do is see about what I can do about making the shirts purchasable.

As far as the first 250 movies. Those are the first 250 movies I find on YouTube. I am doing the searches so if I see a movie, it meets the needs I will log it. Secondly, the winners of the contest will be subject to our opinion. We will make it very obvious which ones are forerunners.

@Mully: The Europe is the bastid child of PSN just doesn’t hold water anymore. It’s really not true with PAIN. Europe got an exclusive BD, Release of content is simultaneous and often times (although it’s not always on purpose) you get content BEFORE the United States. So sorry that excuse is so not true.

@BrainMachine: I am trying real hard to get this woman celeb out for Halloween. IT’S KILLING ME! I am sure we will do another Dynamic Theme (as I have said before) We will see what I can cook up. In our defense though… We might have more normal themes for free than any other PS3 game. I am not saying it evens us out but we do have quite a bit.

@HomrJ: Yeah, when we release new content to the store we take that chance to update the codebase. So the answer is YES that’s when the bug fixes will be there.

have you guys looked into the online profiles resetting? I wish I could provide rhyme or reason as to it, but you can look at mine (paerley) and see that my skill levels are non zero, but a lot of my games show as zero times played. FWE will show up as 1 or 2 games right now (maybe 5 or 6?) yet I have 100 skill. I'm going to start charting when it happens, what I had just done, etc, but that's effort, and I am most certainly a lazy man.

Thanks. I have a new, very messed up bug to report in Museum FWE. It just worked me. Bad.
Actually John and The Probe mentioned it earlier, so I'll explain it fully.

First time was about 2 weeks ago. Scored like 800+ in Painful FWE Museum. A serious chore. I press circle to encapsulate my moment for display to all - and The PS3 Reboots. Like "Hey looky over there... PULMPH - GUT CHECK!!!

That sucked huge. I was happy to me moving on from that mode. So instead I've spent the last 2 weeks just chokin my hiney and getting denied on a repeat performance.

Until tonight, when I finally found my groove and cheek-clenched my way to 911. Ya, ya but check it - So I'm just fully relieved I finally got it back. I smiled a genuinely happy smile and thought... ef ya. Oh effing ya. Cloudsters back on top. 6 billion earthlings/ none scored more.

To play it safe, instead of circle I thought I'd hit triangle, do a lainch or two and THEN hit circle to save.
So I hit that triangle button. Then I was hoisted up and pile-driven down on my neck and beaten with bar-soap filled socks.

My whimpers proved costly, and the beatings intensified until I remained silent. I caught a bar in my teeth and bit down. It helped to muffle my cries.

I dressed my wounds and cleaned up my droppings as the game loaded from a fresh reboot. My high scored wasn't saved. Man, that really took alot outta me. I don't think I want to do that again.

Travis, please copy and paste this bug for Dave because this one feels far worse than any missing trigger crate outing I've ever had.

My online data has been reset also. I have 100 in FWE as soon I play at least one noob.
Frankly I'm a little bored with the whole online data thing. Reaching a skill level of 100 doesn't mean anything. I was hoping for more signficant data recorded where we could score chase like the leader boards for all the off line games.

@Juggs - Yeah, it WAS 120gb, but now it's 500gb... Red blinking light of doom for me. The suck part is that it won't let me do a full restore, because the backup was created on a different system. I hope this has something to do with going from a fat to a slim, because whats the point if you can't restore a new system after your old one dies?? It's going to take days to do a full re-DL of all the crap I've bought... My download list has 565 items, so even taking out the demos I still have 500 DL's to do! I've put about 6 hours into it already, and I still have about 400 to go....

Agree that number of games disappearing all the time is annoying. I'd like to see more info kept and displayed. Be nice to know how many games someone else has played when they enter to play. Still feel that skill level doesn't depict what a user is capabile of. Play 100 noobs doesn't mean I can beat you or obscurred.
I really hope that as Travis said early on, that work is being done to improve the online display.
It would be nice to know how many games are going on, who's in them, and some way to queue up to play that person next.
Can't say how many times I've sat waiting for someone to play and not knowing that you or a few others are in Pain and may be in the online mode and playing is frustrating.

@THitter: The next Naughty Bit is all about Ooching so there is no real grab mechanic in it. So there you go! I hope you’re happy. I think you will be. It’s a blast. And PAINBall is not a grab and throw mechanic at all. It’s more Ooch and Pimp Slapping. It’s a really fun multiplayer game. I think it’s the best one yet.

Back when my PS3 took a dump I did a lot of reading on problems & what people did 2 try & fix them. I think I recall quite a few posts in forums & I think even on youtube with some solutions to the red light issue. Some as simple as pulling out the hard drive & reinstalling it. Check it out bro. Might save u a few hundred hours &/or dollars.

Yeah yeah, george takei, another addon the BD users can't use, as the patch is still not online...

I would like to know the reason why those addons get released with no problem, whereas the patch don't show up... maybe it's because the addons gets money to the devs and the patch don't ?

You'll say that the patch is in a queue, waiting to be tested, but hell, I guess it's the same for the addons, but those get released, even if they're not working on the BD !!!

its friday, PSN store day and there is no bluray patch!! since nothing comes on the weekend yous lied yet again. get your act together, i want it now, upload it to the net and give me a link to DL it from so i can manually install it. obviously sony europe are not bothered and have no intention of giving to us, youve taken (a percentage of) our money for the game and the addons we have paid for and cant use, its 10am friday morning now, if its not there by the time i get home from work so i can enjoy my friday night, you are going to make me seriously angry, get on the phone, dont be a yes man, tell them to do it now, and give us some compensation for the hell you have put us through...

we paid for a product that promises a certain set of standards. if idol minds cannot live up to their promises it should not be our problem, but theirs. idol minds did not even have the decency to give their costumers experiencing issues any feedback or support at all. travis and co only respond to a select group here on the blog. the group that continues to respond to our rants with ''moan'' comments. Yes youre special
putting the blame on the long queues with sony is no valid argument at all. the product released shouldn't have had these issues in the first place!

Awesome job this week, Idol Minds.

Takei is awesome, though I miss some kind of insignia on his space outfit! I realize you can't put the actual ST insignia, but a little something? I'm just nitpicking - he is awesome - HOT SWEET OOCHES inded!

I see above the patch is out (by the end of the week, I might add) and the European BR buyers should be able to partake in the awesomenss that is Online PAIN! Now get crackin' Europeeps!

Quite a while ago when new environments were being discussed, the PAIN graveyard was talked about - a Halloween themed environment with crypts and coffins and vampires, werewolves all things spooky! It's the only thing missing from PAIN! Please tell me you guys are hard at work on somethign like that???

I LOVE museum, by the way. it is without a doubt the best environment since downtown, and I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves next! Keep up the great work!

@Homr: Software has bugs. Every bit of software in the known universe has them. To the degree to which they hamper your use of said product is always the question. All any company can do is try their best to mitigate that problem. Being angry or rude isn’t going to make the QA process any faster. Just because you have no empirical evidence that work is being done doesn’t mean that work isn’t being done to address any and all issues. There is a process that must be followed to submit updates at Sony. It really doesn’t matter that you don’t like or accept it. I’m not wild about it. It doesn’t change the fact that it must be done. PAIN is a product that Sony Computer Entertainment is new to. PAIN is the shape of things to come and so we encounter all sorts of issues no other product does. It’s good because we test the limits of the platform and show our bosses what must be done in this new area of content delivery. It’s bad because you get to see what we are not perfect at YET. In exchange for your patronage I try to sneak as much free stuff out as possible. Sometimes I win sometimes I loose. It’s okay if you get angry. Just don’t expect me to spend copious amounts of time explaining why things are the way they are. I seem to do it every 2-3 months.

@Ron: Look if my game didn’t work I’d be pissed too.. I understand people get upset and unless you take it too far I don’t delete messages. We released the patch so hopefully everything and everyone is good in da hood now. PAINBALL is a 2-4 player multiplayer game. It’s played on as many environments as you have purchased and it’s really REALLY fun. It’s the one mode where being a Douche and Smack Talking is practically required.

@Hastur: The way content works for PAIN is we hand over a bunch of content to Marketing and then they determine when it’s released. This is INDEPENDENT of a patch. So patching and content releases are not tied to one another so stop thinking I am over here sitting on your cash and giggling at your misfortune. It’s not true.

@Lorine: She is part of our next content patch release. Fat Princess is in test now so when she passes format I will announce how and when you can get her in PAIN. Just like all the other SCE characters she will be free. SEE! I do give a way FREE STUFF!


@Debbie: Sorry I wasn’t the author of this post so my posts are not in red. It’s one of the many things I will love about a new PAIN site. Sorry.


@Bentley: I am not sure what error that you are experiencing. Sounds to me like maybe you installed PAIN on more than one machine and then didn’t download all the content on another machine. If you have one machine I would suggest you redownload and install PAIN. Something funky is going on and I never seen that error. That happens to me when I buy new PAIN content at work and forget to do the same thing on my home PS3.

If you are required to download bowling-training seperatly like the fwe explosives pack, I suggest you talk to the people responsible for the European psn-store. Its is not in the list. Nor is the sore spots pack for that matter.
I am far from the only one experiencing this. All of my friends who recently bought the game have the same problems i'm having + there are a ton of posts going around the net about these issues.

For your information, I only own one system and i have already tried reinstalling the game several times. I have the psn-version.


As soon as get home, I will check wether or not the new patch solved it. Who knows...

You are the man. I just had to let you know. you take a lot of BS from a lot of people (even me sometimes). But I really appreciate the fact that you are so up front about the things you do (upcoming release hints NOT included).

Part of the reason I love PAIN so much is that you guys really do listen to us, and I guess I've never had that kind of interaction with a company I didn't work for. IdolMinds should give you a fat raise.

So even though you take the BS, you also deserve the credit for an awesome game that has replaced my long time reigning champion favorite game, Toejam and Earl from Sega Genesis days (who would make great launchables, BTW).

PAIN is a great game, and it continues to get better all the time.

no the european (belgian) downloadable version.

I asked a friend from italy last night who bought the game a couple weeks back aswell and he was experiencing the very same problems

- no sore spots not in game nor in psn-store
- no bowling single player
- and the limp wrist-bug, but that should be fixed.

hence my guess that the problem lies with the psn-store...

@Juggs - Called Sony today, I had to give them the serial #'s of my old system and the new system, plus read them the date of purchase on my new slim and they said that I'll be able to download all my video I've bought in 24-48 hours, but it might not be till Monday cuz they don't work weekends... They have to de-autherize my old system, them re-autherize all the video content I bought so it will apper in my DL list again. So it looks like all will be well. I had to teach the girl on the phone how some of the menu options worked, but the call was fairly easy to make. Fingers crossed, and I'm down to 179 DL's left to get my games back... What a PAIN (on topic!) in the arse!

Thanks for your reply on the bugs, I feel that in your reply you think I am mad or angry that the bugs are there, in now way am I raging or angry and haven't really demonstrated that!

I am a beta tester on many PC games and know full well how the testing and bug process works.

I have posted in this topic 3 bugs, Air Attack, Limp Wrist and Explode-A-Load (although this trophy is not glitched as I got it the other night).

Your patches and updates have always helped the game and the fact you have fixed the issues I reported and the HnC timer issue is utterly fantastic as well as the BD Patch.

Please keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing what the next environment is.

But please do not mistake my willingness to post bugs here as a sign that I am unsatisfied with PAIN or Idol Minds.

PAIN has brought me great joy since I bought it on release and I have played it at least once a week ever since. I have met cool people with awesome skill in the game and I myself am only 9 in-game trophies away from completing it (5000 crates and 500 bears? (come on!).

I have bought everything PAIN related and will continue to do so till you shut up shop.

So in effect, I support you and report bugs to be fixed so you can make this game more enjoyable! I am not critizing you or your game!

Come over to Scotland and I'll buy you a pint and a whiskey and we will all be friends again?

WTF is going on with the online ranking? I was playing online today and I noticed, like paerley mentioned a few times, that my game count has reset. My skill level is all there but according to my profile I have played 0 games. Also I just got finished whooping a rank 100 in Knight at the Museum Horse. He waited all the way until his last chance to disconnect. I didn't get counted with the disconnect but my Horse skill level did drop from 45 to 40. I know online gaming is difficult for you guys to have for this game but the counting and ranking should be easy to maintain shouldnt it?.

I know what you mean. I bought Santa because of the Secret Santa trophy and he fuckin sucks. I used him like 1 time since getting that trophy in May. And during that 1 time I learned that Santa can't grab or ooch for shit. I know Travis and Coke put their unique, uhm, talents into the Santa character but he seriously sucks. Please PAIN team if your going to make more trophies that require downloadable characters at least make it a character worth buying. Like Ivan, he's hilarious and a decent launchable.

I suspect that the 'Santa' trophy was more of a reward for those that had already gotten santa than a trick to get more people to buy him. People who bought him when he first came out were likely sorely disappointed that he's next to useless... I've never found a use for him... doesn't slide well enough to be good at FWE or horse, doesn't grab well enough to be good at MT or CT, not funny enough to be fun.... I was glad that I at least got to use him for SOMETHING finally

I will explain this for the millionth time now. You cannot get more trophies for content that exist. You have to create trophies for new content. Otherwise games would just keep making trophies and exceed the Sony point limit. The only way you get more points is new content. We are NOT making new content to justify trophies. We can only get new trophy points with new content. PAIN has always planned to release content (PAIN was launched BEFORE trophies were even created). So this incorrect assertion that we are somehow milking customers for trophies is just plain WRONG.

Great to see the BD patch up and running - works smooth as silk. Nice to experience the Museum (great classical representation of the 'Pain' theme, a touch of brilliance there )

I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this. The release has quashed any and all ill feelings - at least for me.

I understand that things don't always work out as planned - we don't always have absolute control. Indeed, control is illusory at the best of times.

Communication will ease most of the pain - yet, given that, the squeaky wheel gets the attention. Complaints are a natural part of the process. For all involved, we have to take the good with the bad.

Just a couple of threads about other people not finding the bowling-training and sore spots packs in the European psn-store.... I have seen others post here aswell and every single 1 of my European friends is experiencing this also...


Could someone from the PAIN-crew finally make a statement about this other than: 'I have never seen that error and have no idea whats going on' or 'I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to buy the sore spots pack'...

Try it out yourself with a European account...

I have all the add ons environments and modes but I dont have all the characters. I have about 3/4 of them.

@PAIN team
Once again I lost skill points when I was disco'd on. I usually gain skill points when a player with a higher skill level disco's on me. But the last couple times I've lost skill points and I havent even been penalized with a disco on my record. But I think it has something to do with them disconnecting on their turn. If they disconnect on my turn I get the skill points, if they disco on their turn I lose skill points. Not sure if thats what the problem is but it is a problem.

Why is it that if I play Shotblocks with The Hoff and get over 8 million, it doesn't Unlock Tuxedo Hoff???

Not for nothing, but the trophy specifically says that you have to get a score of 6,900,069. It doesn't say you have to do it in an actual area like downtown, or the museum or anything.

What the heck's up with that??? Not for nothing, but i got the points, the condition was met, but no reward...

It seems that you haven't commented on anyone's post here, so I'm even wondering if you'll comment here at all. U on vacation or something?

What I meant is I buy something like the school reunion and it comes with a new trophy list. However to earn one of those trophies (the Snata one as the example) I need buy even more DLC (Santa) that isn't new.


Sorry but I find that kind of wrong. If the new trophy came with the School Reunion DLC all I should need to earn that trophy is the original PAIN game and the School Reunion DLC (and anything I can unlock by only having those).

I buy a lot of DLC for a lot of games and I cannot think of any of them that add new trophies that require something from different DLC entirely to earn.

I apologise for the 'squeeze extra cash' comment, you've gave us loads of great free stuff, I just find it annoying I buy new areas and then find I cannot even earn the trophies for it, rather than high scores a lot of my fun for PAIN is in the trophies (in game and XMB).

@KylieDog: We did not make the rules for trophies. As a Sony development house we MUST follow the rules or our content will not be approved. Trophies are not the main reason we make new content. It’s actually not a reason we do new content AT ALL. Like I said before PAIN was conceived to be a game that had content released post launch. Trophies are just an added luxury. It’s hard to determine all the DLC that people like and make trophies just for that. Even if we could it wouldn’t be within the rules of PS3 software development requirements.

@ Anyone (Specifically the PAIN team)

I thought of the best idea for all the HOME content. Make a space (not a house) for each environment. Downtown, Abusement Park, Movie Studio, Sore Spots, and Museum. Try to recreate it exactly and make it huge. For example, in Abusement park, u could ride the rides, play some minigames and arcade machines. And just make everythin interactive for each environment like going up escalators and what not. Also, make a costume for each character and make em like 99 cents or $1.25 each. Also make some furniture and decorations like a mini (or big) statue of each character and some stuff like the stone couch in Museum.

Anyone like this idea?

But my REAL problem is "Pain & Mane" and "Helmet Pi". They both seem to be conspiring against me because neither want to unlock no matter how hard I rub them. I have over TWO HUNDRED games of horse and about 150 games of trauma & its still locked.
Helmet Pi is starting to get VERY old. I have gotten that gladiator on, in, under & through that sporty sportster EVERY time I play in MS but still no trophy. Is there something I missed?????

As far as post editing goes... if you implement a system like this (blogging, etc), adding and deleting can be done fairly efficiently as far as scalability goes, as you don't have to manage caching objects. A deleted post will just disappear and fall out of the cache once it's not been accessed in a bit. To be able to edit posts, you have to be able to expire the cache, and when you run into a system that has to span multiple web servers, that can end up being a serious problem. I'm guessing that the Sony rules specify the SPECIFIC code that you have to use to allow posts by users on a playstation.com blog, and as such, they have to optimize that code to handle the WHOLE of playstation.com. I know I've never seen a response on any playstation.com blog edited, and I know that I've written very similar code that makes these exact assumptions.

I guess what I'm saying is, you gotta understand that These Guys (Pain people) have to play by Those Guys' (Sony people) rules... and Those Guys have to think of what it takes to make the MOST people happy. The ability to edit posts would slow down the software for everyone, while only pleasing a few people. Deleting a user's post, while allowing them an opportunity to re-post a similar post that meets the criteria specified by the person that deleted it (and Travis did say why he did it), is the compromise in this case.

Yeah, it's real easy to forget that our little community here is just the elite upper crust of the whole PSN network...

The problem isn't in the whole cache updating, the problem is the performance hit you take when objects can change. This means, each machine has to check if they have the newest copy of an object regularly, as you don't want to do a lazy cache update on editing a post... you want it immediate (so you can quickly remove questionable content). Lazy updating is the most efficient way to handle this sort of thing, at the cost of it not being instant.

Now keep in mind, I have no actual insight into how this thing actually works, but I can make gross conjectures based on experience and not caring about being wrong. (not that we're likely to ever be given insight into the way it works, as and sort of information disclosure like that could lead to security problems down the road)

If the Simpsons were in PAIN then it would be just another Simpsons game & not PAIN anymore. IT WOULD TOTALLY RUIN THE GAME.

@RON: Yeah I am having my test team look at that to see if they can do that. But every time we release PAIN we make sure you can get all the trophies so something odd is going on. I don’t know what’s up yet. But I am checking on it. I remember once upon a time we had a bug like the one you are talking about but we got it sorted. I dunno we will see. I live and die by my sarcasm. So if you were shopping for it I can assure you that you have come to the right place.


@Al3xX: We have been trying to sort Europe BD and Japan PSN and because of that it gums up the works on PAINLabs hopefully with this next push we will be back to our weekly schedule. It’s been kinda wacky lately. Sorry.


@D02K03: The Simpsons would be expensive in PAIN as well.

I think I have watched obscured's Spunky Beatdown vid like a hundred times and it still is awesome.

Every so often when the camera is right in front of Spunky when is going up and down is classic cinema moments!

I would agree about Obsy's vids, they are exceptional, I myself will not be entering, I don't do the whole you tube thing, no time I would rather be playin'.
