So here is round two of the Zombie concepts. I believe these are a bit more in line with what everyone was saying last time I posted. I would have to agree with most of your comments. Although the Zombie concepts were cool there was a missing element to them. They were just zombies and not part of the PAIN universe so to speak. I think the chief complaint was that they didn’t have enough FLAVA to them. Sure they were dead an all but there was nothing about them that screamed PAIN or Character. It speaks volumes when your user base knows your game as well or better than you do.

So we went back to the drawing board and came up with two next executions.

Haha get it.. dead zombie.. execu—

* Clears Throat * Nevermind.

Anyways… So I have two new Zombie concepts for you guys to look at so you can tell me what you like and what you don’t like. I think we are getting much closer to what we want in a PAIN Character. These two have more personality to them. Or better yet I can see what I can do to make them tragic/funny. I am going to need some help here so tell me what you think. Don’t be shy. Feel free to h8 on them.

Zombie One: I think I will call him “Privates Stinky”

I like this one okay I guess I am just not a civil war fan (go figure). I really do like the hole in his stomach though. That’s extremely cool. I could see that maybe being a problem because he could get caught on those trapeze poles. It would be interesting to see him ooch while being impaled. Nice touch with the boxers. Did they even wear boxers back in the day? I need some help “feeling” this guy tho. He’s not my favorite. Anyone out there seeing anything that I am not?

Zombie Two: I think I will call him “Dead Baren’”

Now this is more like it! I like this concept better than the other ones. There needs to be more color on him though. He still looks a little “Quake Brown” to me. Maybe we can change the color of his scarf and give him blue pants with a stripe down the side. Something. I mean I know the cat is dead and all but he needs some style. Looks like he got his whole uniform at The GAP. Nothing wrong with The GAP mind you. I just never seen any Zombies shopping there the last time I went to one.

Now I need some help from all of you. If these seem to be more to your liking I would like some suggestions on the following items

Quotes: What could both of these Zombies say? Gimme some good launch lines. If I dig em we will use em. You guys seem more creative when I just ask for silliness.

Launch Poses: Anything cool come to mind? I’m leaving this up to you guys. I am busy with the characters you haven’t seen.

Whatever Travis. Where’s your content update?

Yes, I know this is what you were all tuning in for so I will give you the lowdown. I am hoping to get a final candidate for the update this week. We had some people off of the update so they could finish tasks for the new PAIN environment. Now that they are back these few bugs shouldn’t take long to wipe out. When I say final candidate that means the testers will be working on getting this update tested and hopefully passed on to our format staff to make sure there are no issues. The format staff is the last group to look at our code before it goes to you the end users.

Remember, our updates are global so we have to pass muster (Be approved by Quality Assurance) in America, Europe and Asia before the update is released. I will keep everyone up to date as we go through this process. When there is a date I will let everyone know. As soon as I get a thumbs up from our Format department I can tell you an exact date. I know everyone hates it when I say SOON but this is why. If we discover we need to fix something we have to start this process all over again.

This content is our last major game update before the new environment makes its debut. We will start talking about it soon. Stay tuned. I promise we won’t disappoint.

Wow..The earliest update ever! Clap clap clap!!!!

Posted on 04.25.08 22:30 PM by TonyB

@Travis - The new Zombies are nice... I like The Civil War guy, I was born and raised in Virginia, so I grew up around all the battle fields. I think he just needs to be a bit thicker... a little more meat on his bones would do the trick IMO. The pilot has got his sticky on! Again I think he may be a bit thin, there needs to be something holding those bones together.

Posted on 04.25.08 22:39 PM by TonyB

I like these two......best ones so far.....War vet? Mabe too risky concerding the times we are in tho!!!!!

Posted on 04.25.08 22:48 PM by THEfireman

Also....launch lines for the "Dead Baron" could be.....

"Pilot to bombadier, Pilot to bombadier Prepair to drop a load!!" (passes gas)

Posted on 04.25.08 22:55 PM by THEfireman

cool i like the new zombies are beter than tha the othersSmile UPDATE!!!!!!!!

Posted on 04.26.08 00:06 AM by Marvin

ye zombies are cool. cant wait for the new envirement, guna be right on time too!

Zombie: PAAAAAIIIINNNSS!

Posted on 04.26.08 00:12 AM by Ben

hehe nice concepts. i would have to say that the pilot design seems to look like it could be a PAIN character. the soldier.... well he looks like one of those tin toy soldier things. he doesnt look like he is crazy enough to be in the world of PAIN. im probably going to be attacked for this but as an amature game make i can see something all the other characters have in common. there all crazy mofos they look willing to catapult themselfs. hope i didnt bore anyone and hope not to be flamed. kudos to the artist and the whole pain team

Posted on 04.26.08 00:40 AM by sakura1989

@sakura1989 - You spent half your post apologizin' .. To who? Don't worry about the dorks on this site flaming you. Only Dumb repeat questions, and idiots who rip on people get flamed most of the time here. Let your ideas flow, and say 'em loud and proud. You never know when you might come up with a good one. If you get any crap from these noobs, there will be people to get your back.

Posted on 04.26.08 00:49 AM by TonyB

I think zombie number two looks better.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:28 AM by Grimul

@tonyb

heh thanks tony. will keep it in mind

Posted on 04.26.08 01:29 AM by sakura1989

Is there a way to see your collective hight and distance traveled? If not I think that there should be.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:32 AM by Mr_Quiggles

I'm not sure if I feel them or not. I mean I like the hole through the first one. The first one is probably my favorite. To me, they both look lacking in zombielicious flava. Just stand maybe a few feet away from the computer and look at them. You don't realize they are zombies. To me they look like normal people with torn clothes. I liked the first two concepts better, they looked more undead. I just think you should add something to make them really look undead. You guys are on the right track with the hole in the stomach and the torse backwards though.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:35 AM by kitfisto007

thumbs up for the zombie #2

Posted on 04.26.08 01:36 AM by Marvin

Numero dos!

Posted on 04.26.08 01:38 AM by Mr_Quiggles

It's a tough one to me.. Could be cool in some way if the soldier could get caught by the hole in his stomach.. A little like that horse shoe game-thing... At the other hand, does the pilot have some kind of a parachute? Could look like he was going to pull the trigger (?). That could be a cool feature. I agree with you that he needs some color.

I'd say the soldier.. Although if that pilot has got a parachute, I would change my mind.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:46 AM by Xerez

@Travis - FWE multi-player... Player 1 always going first sucks. It makes it almost unplayable. Anyway to make it loser first? even winner first. Just not always player 1 first?

Posted on 04.26.08 01:48 AM by TonyB

Personally, I think both of those zombies are awful looking. I understand that there can't be blood and guts, but these are ridiculous. The bodies could maybe work, but the faces are both horendous. I support neither.

@Travis
Dude...2 weeks now, what's happenin' on that Video.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:48 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

...congrats on the early update, it's a nice change of pace.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:48 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Juggs - He scrapped the vid. He replied to you at the end of the last post.

Posted on 04.26.08 01:51 AM by TonyB

@Travis
The colors of the first Zombie sucks but I love the hole in his stomach
I would love to throw a civil war Zombie through the city Smile
But it's clear that he need something else...I'd like to have a better "writing english" so I could go deeper in my suggestions(I understand all but speak and write really bad, sorry)

@Every one
Sorry, third time I ask my question but I'd like to have an answer,even a "I can't answer this question" Wink
So: what can we expect concerning User Created Content?
Thanks

Posted on 04.26.08 01:58 AM by Kamineko

Zombie #1's hole on zombie 1 from the last post, or zomibe 1 with more obvious undead (color, missing chunks, maybe show his ribs, or no bottom jaw).

Posted on 04.26.08 01:59 AM by srart

@ Travis...
Nice look on the zombies...as for comments?
Well, in classic Night of the living dead and the others.. one comment was the zombies moaning.. Brains.. Braaaiiiiiinss
Nice and slow.. so instead do
"Paaaiiiiin"...
Now since they are dead, gotta have some comments from them mentioning how much something WOULD hurt if they were alive. Like how Jarvis says on some of his comments, now reverse em so to speak..

1. "If I was alive, that would really hurt"..

2. Thank gosh I'm dead, cause that woulda hurt like hell"
(My Fave)
**3. "No BRAIN.. NO PAIN"

4. "No PAIN.. No gain"

***5. "With no Brain.. I feel no PAIN"

6. "Hey, I'm dead, so go ahead and slam my head"

7. "Hey I'm dead, slam my head"

8. " No PAIN for the man with no brain"

9. "Can't hurt my balls when I fall"

10. "Sticks n stones can break my bones, but PAIN will never hurt me"

11. "Bricks and cones can't hurt my bones"

12. "That didn't hurt.. that didn't hurt..ok that hurt"

Ok that's it for now...gotta lie down as sitting here, now I'M IN PAIN..

Hey Travis... got some good ones here I think....

Oh Yeah.. I'm Back!!

Posted on 04.26.08 02:02 AM by Hello Hello

@Travis the only thing i have to say is " I wish i had more hands, so i can give those zombies 4 THUMBS DOWN ha ha ha....Cold Blooded". No but seriously the zombies are horrible. To me they don't fit in the pain universe, i would have rather like to see the knight or even the wrestler, but i what can you do? zombie got the most votes. Since i won't be playing with the zombie, will jarvis or any other character have more costumes?

Posted on 04.26.08 02:38 AM by michael

What ever happened to the britt? My friends and I have been waiting for him for a while.

Posted on 04.26.08 03:19 AM by dlotsbane

i feel that both zombies are great, but a little more mazzagic would be cool.
i would like to see #2, because #1's boxer shorts is American, nd i am English, so i feel weird =S
zombie #2 lines:
1) up, up, and... DOWN?!?
2) bombs away!!!... (farts)
3) This is killing me!!! actually, it isn't.

Anyway, im out now.
Mikey

Posted on 04.26.08 03:22 AM by Mikey

For #1:THIS IS WORST THAN THE WAAAR!!!!!!!

Posted on 04.26.08 03:42 AM by Marvin

For #2:coming down!!!!!,or:May day may day!!, or maybe:IM GOING DOWN!!!! i repeat IM GOING DOWN!!!!I!!!! or something like that Smile

Posted on 04.26.08 03:47 AM by Marvin

The colours are headed in the right direction, I don't really like either, but I'd learn towards to Baren if I had to. I would like to see some skeleton, not just an arm or leg and a green face. We need less clothing to show they are ZOMBIES.

No Brain, No Pain is wicked btw Hello Hello

"That didn't hurt, That didn't hurt, That Hurt" may not fit the zombie per se, but it would be great for any character's second launch

(In Air) That Didn't Hurt, That Didn't Hurt (Hit Object) That Hurt

I think it would be solid.

Posted on 04.26.08 04:27 AM by Sephex

No need to get too up in arms about these Zombies. You all voted for it I didn’t. I would have been cool with a Yeti. But you didn’t vote that way haha. There will be more characters but we have some pressing business to get done first. I’m on the job.

@TonyB: It’s because we are finally getting marketing text and graphics on a regular schedule. So you should see updates happen on time from now on. At the least we will do two major topic posts a month. Thanks for the props. I see what you mean about F.W.E. I will see if we can alter that for the next environment. That’s a damn good point.

@Juggalo: Yeah I nuked it. You didn’t look at the last post. Like I said if it doesn’t rock I gotta stick a fork in it.

@Sakura: I am partial to #2 as well. I agree with Tony. As long as you have a point (even if I don’t agree with it) just let it be known. We often use posts like yours to plays devil’s advocate with ourselves in meetings. It proves we are not the only ones who think a certain way.

@MrQuiggles: No, I am not sure we want to show that because we use it for other reasons. I will ask though.

@Xerez: If the Zomibie had a chute he would be too slow and drag on everything. It would mess up the game flow.

@Haskell: Nice comments I like em all keep em coming.

@Michael: Hahaha good use of a Rick James quote. Hahahaha. I guess you will have to pass until you see the next character. I feel you.

@Dlotsbane: Nigel comes out the same time as the new update.

@Sephex: Good direction. You can see how Zombie one died but not Zombie two. Maybe larger bullet holes because he was shot down or something would help too eh? I think the colors should be a little more impactful too.

LOL That didn't hurt... Nice Police Academy line.

I am outta here. I gotta get in line for Iron Man. PEACE!

Posted on 04.26.08 05:28 AM by Saturn_neo

nuked the video...uber gay.

Posted on 04.26.08 05:29 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

As a fan if the civil war, and a sometimes re-enacter. I really, REALLY, dig the first dude! Second one is ok, but i think that era has been played out by other games. Besides, i just wanna see the first guy drop a ball (cannon ofcourse) or get stuck on a pole. Great idea's guys! I really dig the poll too! A PAIN hoodie or T-shirt would be awesome.

Posted on 04.26.08 05:31 AM by Saturn_neo

lol Iron Man

Posted on 04.26.08 05:48 AM by Marvin

hey travis when is the "new video" coming?

Posted on 04.26.08 05:50 AM by Marvin

@Travis and Everyone What about a 6 foot fat baby as a character? and all the baby is wearing is poop stained diaper. lol

Posted on 04.26.08 05:55 AM by michael

@michael - I like the baby idea... Give him 1 big curl on top of his bald head, and of course just 1 big tooth.

Posted on 04.26.08 06:05 AM by TonyB

Travis,

PAIN is a guilty pleasure of mine...great game, tons of fun. I've been lurking here watching you take heat for months now (actually, I'm watching for content updates - but anyway, hats off to you).

But anyhoo, had to register when I saw your request for zombie pose suggestions...since it's dead and all anyway, what about a "sprong" (or whatever it should be dubbed) pose where all the zombie's joints come loose temporarily? You'd have to make his threads rip apart too, so he's kind of spread out in individual pieces flopping around? Would be even weirder/cooler (but maybe not for ooching/scoring) if this pose was held on impacting and all the parts went their separate ways. Smile

OK, my secret's out...I like PAIN.

Thanks for listening,
James

Posted on 04.26.08 06:37 AM by jemoore

I THINK A ZOMBIE DOCTOR WITH A BONE SAW IN HIS HEAD WOULD BE COOL. HE SHOULD BE CALLED DR D SEEST. MAKE AN ASTRONAUT CHARACTER THAT SAYS "HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!".

Posted on 04.26.08 06:47 AM by LMR13

YAY new zombie concepts, I think the first one is awesome, Love the hole in his gut makes him really look dead and those American flag boxers rule lol! The second one is ok but for some reason he doesn't really jump out at me.

Posted on 04.26.08 10:10 AM by SharpPoint

I say “Dead Baren’” is the winner here. But i still standby my post on the last ones make it a clown zombie(holding the teddy bear).

Posted on 04.26.08 10:52 AM by crimsonghost13

@Travis
Am I invisible?Am I like the UFO in Downtown? Do you h8 french? Why dont you ever respond to my question???

anyone wondering about the new video stop asking. it wasnt good enough so they scraped it

Posted on 04.26.08 14:01 PM by sakura1989

you should make brock lee a playable character. cant wait for nigel because he's a britt just like me. oh yeah i think that zombie #1 has got the right amount of colour but zombie #2 is more zombiefied.
keep up the good work travis and every one else at pain

Posted on 04.26.08 14:19 PM by jamie

zombie #2
(in air)"wow this is deja vu" or "ah just like the good ol' days

Posted on 04.26.08 14:27 PM by no1rebal

ideas for new characters;

man in hot dog suit
biulder
mime
a boxer
a robot
angel/devil (heaven/hell theme)
farmer (with a farm theme)
an alien
a man in a wheel chair
a man in a fish suit
spider-man

Posted on 04.26.08 14:34 PM by no1rebal

why is the poll "which pain threads would you rock?" are you going to make them and sell them?

Posted on 04.26.08 14:39 PM by no1rebal

both of those zombies are great, but definitely the first one

Posted on 04.26.08 16:22 PM by cbub84

If it's between these two, I gotta go with Ded Baron, but I agree he's missing something. That something being Engine parts sticking out of him! C'mon, give him a few bullet holes, maybe as well. But think about this, if he's got a propeller blade sticking out of his back, said propeller blade can spin and make engine sounds while he's doing one of his poses. And maybe it's just because it's early in the morning, but I find that really funny.

So for the zombie's voice, how zombie is he going to sound? Is the humor going to come more from the poses and sound effects with the occaisonal zombie moan style words,or will he get some fully functioning vocal chords?

If he does talk a lot, then Ded Baron must be German. It just works.

Posted on 04.26.08 17:09 PM by Terwallace

Both of these new zombie concepts are horrible.

Posted on 04.26.08 17:21 PM by Galley

Larger bullet holes would do the trick, especially if you could see through them (From Dusk Till Dawn Anyone?). Some vibrant colour definately. I like how much of the 1st zombie's dead flesh is exposed, shred a lil more of zombie 2's jacket and I think we have a winner.

"Ze Dead Baren Lovez Ze Pain, Ja!"

Posted on 04.26.08 17:34 PM by Sephex

I actually liked the last batch of zombies much better than these, but if I have to choose between these two I'd go with the first one.

Posted on 04.26.08 17:54 PM by sicdude

Civil war thing is sketchy. I like the Baron the most. He probably should be holding a pizza. Just sayin.

"I dress you up in my love (in my looove)
All over your body"
- annoying GAP ad

Thing for zombie to yell:
"I love my dead gay son!"
haha ok i listed that before - it's just so weird and a zombie would TOTALLY say that.

Posted on 04.27.08 00:11 AM by StalkingSilence

The ability to see through holes in the zombie is a definite must. The head can't be messed with though. Not as far as damage, BECAUSE THAT KILLS ZOMBIES...or unkills them so that they actually are killed finally... or whatever.
Big holes in the body like a point blank blast from a shotty would be super tight. Exspecially a big one the size of a hub cap where the heart WOULD have been. A ruthless, heartless, yet not lifeless completly zombie. LOL. Try and do trapese artist using the empty cavity rather than grabbing.
As for his identity I gotta say I do like the postman idea someone brought up. His satchel could have old filthy mail flying out as he soars through the air.
His leg and/or butt could have big dog bite marks from a previous attack. How funny would it be to see a chomped up leg break off kicking grannies face.
All the while doing some M.J. style poses yelling out at least a few of Haskells ideas.

@Haskell
Well done on those. How's the back?

Posted on 04.27.08 10:00 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

..oh yeah, and Tony's sticky idea is a must. The only way to make the zombie look right.

@Travis
Any posibility of "Boner" the skeleton, being released next to the zombie. Kinda like the Hung Lo / Scurv deal?

Posted on 04.27.08 10:03 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

Plus with Boner, you can have the bone breaking sound no problem.

Posted on 04.27.08 10:05 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

oh and the zombies name could be,
"Mr. McFeelmeup"

Posted on 04.27.08 10:07 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

huh huh....boner...

Posted on 04.27.08 11:02 AM by TonyB

@rj

great idea probably going to be used. however it would double the production time if they were to be a bundle. we would need concepts of 2 characters instead of one. but its a must have chararacter

Posted on 04.27.08 11:06 AM by sakura1989

"you should make brock lee a playable character"

Absolute genius. By far my favourite "wall art". I second the motion. Brock Lee should get added at some point.

Peace

Posted on 04.27.08 13:06 PM by Sephex

Folks, Brock Lee is a ride in the Amusement Park, it was discussed a few post ago.

Posted on 04.27.08 15:00 PM by srart

@TRAVIS nice zombie but i was thinking a bit modern like a zombie dusbin man. do u think? LOL!!

Posted on 04.27.08 23:00 PM by SOLD_SNAKE_5p

@srart
aaaactually he's a character who had a ride created after him. Not saying he's a character in this game...just a character.

Posted on 04.27.08 23:59 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

or the zombies name could be "Mr. McPealy" due to his flaky decaying skin.

Posted on 04.28.08 00:20 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

im not really liking ether zombie very much; they really just wouldn't fit into the surroundings. perhaps a zombie animal like a deer that got hit by a car

Posted on 04.28.08 10:41 AM by bigbadbarron

PS. where is the music player?

Posted on 04.28.08 10:50 AM by bigbadbarron

@bigbad
My guess...it got nuked like OTHER current projects.

Posted on 04.28.08 12:30 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

I think a Redneck character would be awesome! With a nice mullet haircut (Kentucky Waterfall), and a Lynrd Skynrd t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. Cut off jeans with the striped gym socks too.

He could say things like: "YEE HAW!!", "Hold my beer an watch this!", "Look Ma...No hands!", "The closer the kin...the sweeter the skin!"

There is a TON of good lines.

And the poses would be great too... who hasn't seen a redneck do a belly buster or canon ball off the high dive?

Teeeheeheehee. "The closer the kin...the sweeter the skin!" That's great. LOL.

Posted on 04.29.08 03:19 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

Zombie names:
Deadward
Seymour Privates (zombie 1)
Peter B.Stiff
Ivor Brokeneck (zombie 2) German?

New zombie idea...
How about a zombiefied stunt-man? Complete with Stars and Stripes jumpsuit and cape, and a crash helmet which comes off when crashed. Backstory could be about him trying to jump the Niagra Falls, failing, and then being cursed to roam the land trying to be the best stunt-man in the world before he can rest in peace. Could be called Ivor Brokeneck or Mike "Dead-man" Orpse.

Posted on 04.29.08 03:45 AM by Mark

Do we have to wait for thursdays for updates like the add-ons, or will updates come when ever?

Posted on 04.29.08 11:54 AM by dlotsbane

@dlotsbane - Updates only come out when the moon is in a certain lunar phase, and all the other planets align to form the shape of a giant cosmic ass-crack.

Posted on 04.29.08 14:50 PM by TonyB

If I had to pick one of the zombies, it would be the Dead Baren. He seems to fit the theme of pain.

I also have some ideas for the game.

1. You should be able to launch the mime.

2. The game should have a score vs. score mode for multi player mode. It would play like horse, but without have to hit the targets first.

Posted on 04.29.08 17:17 PM by Agent Scarlett

@TonyB Ha ha ha that was a good one.

Posted on 04.29.08 18:53 PM by Grimul

@Tony
LOL. Perfectly said.

Posted on 04.30.08 11:48 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

i like both but i have to say that if u go for the dead baron you HAVE to make him german!!

Posted on 04.30.08 18:18 PM by cheedw06

Ok, i like both, but just, Private stinky doesent look as good and dead baren just doesent look as dead, sure he gots some bullet holes and a twisted upper body, but that doesent really catch your attention, if you teared up his clothes abit and then put the canon ball hole in his stomach(or have a lead-pipe through his stomach which falls off in-air) it would be awesome cus it would be really cool to be able to impale him on lightpoles or something

things they could say
"I might be dead but i still have feelings"
"This is what i get after a lifetime of christianity?" (ok, prolly to controversial, i just had to...)

Posted on 04.30.08 20:31 PM by Karl

(accidentally pressed save commentTong)
Private stinky: "OH NO! they can see my underwear!"
Dead baren: "My glasses are broken, i cant see, whats happening?" (possibly interupted by ouch or something)

yeah, theyre not sensational, but theyre something

@Juggs

Hey man..glad you like the ideas.. more to come soon..
As for my back? It's friggan killin me. Pain Killer's and muscle relxers aren't helping squat. Incision is 4-5 inches or so, healed from what I can feel. But area's around it are puffy, swollen, and hurting. Back brace is comfy at least, but not tight enough. And when it is off, I can't stand up for too long as the muscles in my back are really weak.
I'm bored to death at times.. Playing hours of Grand Theft Auto 4..(haskell420) for the online peeps....I love it...PAIN here n there.. sorry, but shaking the controller does my back no good right now....but i try once in a while..lol
I have now seen almost every Law n Order, LOVE Maury Povich from 9-11am, especially when the shows are "Who is my baby's Daddy".. Chicks snapping at guys, saying 1000% sure he's the daddy, they saying no..and then DNA tests says, he is NO the father.. LOVE it.. highly enjoyable seeing em weep,especailly when you find out she did 7 other guys..lol..check it out M-Fri..lol....Mike n the Maddog.. Judge tv shows, and any movie that rocks..
Effing lovely.. Ah well.. only another 7 months of wearing this thing..
Death Destruction, AND Misery.. 3 of my faves..

@ Travis... Hey Travis, MAJOR question for you? IS IT POSSIBLE, by any means that you can do, or that you have, can YOU send me a "Button down" PAIN Development Team Shirt?
I only ask because I can't lift my arms over my head yet, and I can only wear button down shirts. I have the one you sent me orginally, but I won't be able to put that on, let alone a friggan T shirt til probably August/September. I wouldn't ask if it wasn;t important too me.
Appreciate the time, and thoughts as always.
From here to eternity,
Haskell

Can't say I care for either of these guys. They certainly don't strike me as belonging in the Pain world. Two ideas come to me for pain-world zombies, the first being somewhat obvious: a Zombie mime! The second would be a zombie pizza delivery guy. I'm not sure why, but that strikes me as somewhat pain-worthy. Anyway, thanks for the awesome game.

@Haskell
When I first hurt my back and I was completly laid out, I watched Maury all the time wit my wife. LOL. LOVE THAT SHOW!!! Don't watch it much anymore though. Now that I gotta kid and I'm a damn good father, it's hard to watch all those awful pathetic parents that should have their kids taken from them. I just wanna know how with 4 other kids, do them chicks got time to do the nasty wit 11 different guys. How in the world do they have that much freedom. I got 1 kid and I get out without him like 3 nights a month tops.

Oh and as for characters? A Hippie I think has been said, but how about a Laywer? Cause we all love lawyers soooo much

Posted on 04.30.08 22:07 PM by Hello Hello

Jack Thompson should be a character.

Posted on 04.30.08 23:00 PM by jrabin93

@haskal

it may sound mean but i think u should be a pain character. kinda ironic but it would be perfect to have a normal player turned into pain legend

Posted on 04.30.08 23:11 PM by sakura1989

Along with my redneck idea.. see above...

I was thinking:

politician
Guy in a wheel chair
Sumo wrestler
Superhero- with random uncontrolable powers
Grandma
Dr. Phil
Rosie O'douchebag
KISS
Kid dressed as Darth Vader

I have a million ideas.

I think it would cool to add a dart game as well.

Posted on 04.30.08 23:40 PM by Hugh_Jorgan

@Hugh_Jorgan- the dart game is already in development.

@ Sakura
Dude no offense taken..I LOVE the thought, and how awesome would that be to be noted as a PAIN lover, in more ways then one..Game and real..lol..I'm a masochist at heart Smile
I'd be the best character as well.. thin red head with glasses, decent looking, 1st version, the funny guy with great lines making you laugh your ass off... the 2nd version..Oh the 2nd version is "the sick, twisted, evil guy who loves death destruction and misery, and the baddest ass doing the most damage in the game.
All my lines would be threatening you, or mocking you the player.. "Oh, that's ALL you got".. That's ALL the points you could get..pffft.. gimme a break" NEXT......When you get low points, rip ya for that as well..Man, you stink, let someone else play" etc... and if you did really good.. then my lines would go "YEAH BABY, NOW THAT'S PAIN"..Oh Hell yeah..feel my PAIN."...Damn that was good, but NOT good enough.. COME ON!!".. I see me already..

@TRAVIS.. SOUNDING GOOD TO ME...LOL. And you'll only have to pay me or .25 or .50 cents per player. can we negotiate?)
I would be a awesome PAIN character! Bring it on..The more PAIN the better.. I'm a glutton for punishment. Especially when I used to have my other set of glasses that tinted brown when I went outside...ooooo with my red hair... I could honestly say, if a cop saw me, he would DEFINATELY look twice...lol.. Some friends used to joke around, an called me the ax murderer..a psycho, (but a good kind of psycho), a MOIF (Master of irrelavant facts), and when in a "mood" per se, I snap. Ohhhhh can i snap.. not as in hitting anyone, fighting or anything like that. I would stop myself before it got that far because afraid of the "what if factor.... But if their is a wall nearby, i'm going through it.
My friend in Florida, he was 5-9, 200-210 maybe and I'm 6'0 155ish (then). He would see me go off, or hear me talk it up, and he would laugh saying dude, you have no idea, i'd kill ya. We would chirp it up at eachother, ripping into eachother, threats etc, all kidding of course. But one day it came. When we were arm wrestling, he thought and said, Oh your toast, you have no chance, i'm gonna kill you don't cry when i break your arm,blah blah blah. I told him, bring it on bitch. And after a good 10 minutes of ripping him a new one and my NY friends telling him, don't do it Bruce... you have no idea Bruce.....he brought it on...and 2 mins into it, he stopped and looked at my roomates and I and said..Goddamn dude, you ain't effing around... your a tough sob..now thats what you call deception right their...then I told him you bet your ass cause I don't care who you are or were, I'd toss ya through a window. LOL

@haskal i dont think you would get to do the actual recordings. also i think if they made u into a character (i hope u do cos its awsome) all they would need from u is referance photos. i may be wrong but that seems the most efficiant way of doing it

Okay I just had to drop this little...bit of bs to show you a day in the life of MutilatoR.
Wake up at 4:30 am to my stupid and very very gay neighbor upstairs slamming crap around in the basement and doing laundry.
I go down there, turn his washer off, and tell him to cut the shi....I mean crap.
He proceeds to tell me to f off, then pushes me and grabs at my wrist. I laugh at him and call the police. (I hate this guy, trying to get him evicted finally for all the crap he pulls. I HATE THE COPS. Why...they've always put the blame on me no matter the facts or evidence.) Today would be no exception.
As I'm talking to the cops, We'll call him Scooter, comes out and says "I'm ready for you guys when you're ready for me" In his girly "I'm a total loser, please like me" voice. The cops have me go inside, I do, they come back to me and say, what did you do to his face. I reply, uhh, nothing, it's always been the stupid looking. He calls me a smart ass and says, "I'm talking about the bloody nose."
"Bloody nose?" I ask in confusion...what bloody nose?
He says you punched in him the face.
.....
This 37 year old man punched himself in the face, to avoid getting arrested. Can you believe it. No...well it gets better.
After my girl gets me out of being arrested for something I didn't do and the cops leave. They come back!!! He rang his doorbell repeatedly waking up his pregnant wife, blames it on me, and they call the police.
What a morning...I shoulda hit the guy. God I shoulda hit the guy.
Check out his myspace. WHATTA DOOSH!!!
http://www.myspace.com/vinnylove414
This guy mean mugs my girl. He tries to intimidate her. DOOSH. He beats his wife and daugther. DOOSH!!!

BTW,
Sakura is hella fine!!!

Make him a pain character.
Call him the Wife Beater.
Or what his wife told me...Mr. Low Sperm Count. I can't believe she said that to me. LOL.

If you become a character, your name will simply be "FIRECROTCH"!!!!

@kamineko

Yea you pretty much are invisible because most because most people with the exception of a few, are replying to Travis' post. There's a lot of stuff to read here and you are just 1 of the 100 here, which can create a problem. It also doesnt help that no one, including I, have no idea what you are talking about when you say "User Generated Content" Please refer to the game "Little Big Planet" for more info on that.

Zombie #1 is great. I dont know why the kid complains about the american boxers when the zombie is from the AMERICAN CIVIL WAR! Not to mention he'd be getting to launch this american at buildings and other hazards?

A pose for him would be a 360 degree salute. Standing straight up like a toy soldier but rotating while doing so. It could create a good change up for the direction you hit with.

Zombie #2 has way too much clothing, especially when getting shot by machine guns from other planes. Compare it to ol' single shot McGee civil war zombie with boxers showing.

A pose for him would to sit with hands at the wheel, as if he were flying the plane again. "Mayday Mayday" would work.

Although as we've seen before, whether it was Nurse vs. cheerleader or Pirate vs. ninja, we got all the characters. So keep your Yeti, Knight, and Wrestler hopes alive! (The zombie one is just the one they are having problems with)

Posted on 05.02.08 02:30 AM by KrimsonSky25

@Juggs - Dang Kid! Why you gotta be hittin that guy in the nose? You're such a meany!!! HAHAHA!!! Next time he runs the washer at 4am, let it run, just add a bit of purple fabric dye and then get some pictures of his messed up clothes. Then we can submit those for the zombie's look!

Posted on 05.02.08 05:02 AM by TonyB

LOL. I DIDN'T HIT HIM!!! God I should have though. It haunts me I didn't because I could have done it and got away with it. It is funny to know that a 37 year old would do that. His given his wife a black eye but he wasn't tough enough to give himself one. He's such a doosh.

Ivum brokemyneck (any)

Arial Divebomb (the pilot)

Ryte Inthacannonballs(long, civil war guy)

and heres some quotes

crotch injurys
-right in the cannon balls-civil guy
-there goes the main thruster-piliot

high in the air
-i can see my grave from here-any

some possable actions for the pilot
1-flaps his arms like a bird
2-walks forward (zombie walk)

I'm tired of hearing about new characters & PAIN launching in new places instead of news about NEW THEMES / LEVELS!!!

It's been almost 7 months now... for a game that released with a single level this is getting incredibly tiresome [don't try to tell me that aftermath mode is another level, it's the same damn theme & is only slightly different here & there].

Don't forget, you dropped with an add for a new level in the game & still haven't delivered. Let alone haven't delivered on all the crap that was promised in the "I'm Baaaaaaack" post...

I'm to the point where I'm considering deleting the game from my console just to free up some space... Not that it isn't a good game, though, one level only goes so far & doesn't give much in the way of new entertainment to be had. If you're not trying to climb the leaderboards, this was over some time ago... new characters only give you 5 or so minutes of new laughs before smashing them into & onto the same old stuff becomes as boring as it is with the old charactes.

In closing, I'll say that you people need to ensure that the next theme / level is a damned good one... at least 10x better than downtown, otherwise you people are going to have one hell of a time not only keeping customers, though, enticing new ones with all the bad mouthing that'll happen as a result if [& I can't stress that "if" enough] you drop the ball on this.

Posted on 05.02.08 12:50 PM by Faux_Smoke

@Faux i think it wont help even a bit deleting the game... u r right, we waited nearly 7 months. but we cant do anything about it. lets just hope we dont have to wait 7 months again.

Posted on 05.02.08 20:15 PM by KingDragunov

@Travis - CC @Everyone - I havn't really played PAIN in about 3 weeks... maybe 1 or 2 rounds of FWE but thats about it. I stopped telling my friends and family to buy it as well. In it's current form, it's really not worth 10 dollars. I tried to be a fan of this game, and the idea of community input, but speak the truth... what have we seen in 7 months? Well, 1 new mode. Thats all. Sorry Travis, but for all the talk and promises, you have really delivered nothing. Even small fixes that could have been a quick patch have not been done. If I took this long to make fixes or adjustments at my job, I would be fired by now. That's a fact. Oh, I'll still be around, and if someday a new level comes out I'll probably buy it, but you guys have just about killed all the excitement I had for this game. I mean... you could have made small fixes here and there to keep it interesting. Characters are fun for the kids, but the only reason I ever bought them at all was to see if they would give any advantages over the other ones in certain modes. But they arrived with bugs that still have not been fixed...FACT. Pony tails and Hungs head still stick for no reason...FACT I'm not talking about the framerate issues with the hydros, I know those may be system limitations (maybe) but the sounds that don't work properly? All the Multi-million point glitches? The trophies I had to unlock dozens of times before they actully showed up in the trophy room? These are problems that should have been fixed right away. I can't help but feel you guys have dropped the ball over and over again, all the while saying "coming soon", "I'll look into it", or "That's a good idea". It's like telling a teenager they need to clean up their room, and they keep saying "I'm gonna,I'm gonna!"

I'll check back later for more of the same old "I'm sorry you feel that way" or "Just wait a bit longer" (By the way, I didn't have to go back and re-read any old comments, you say the same things all the time)

Just so you know, I have not been scowling or smirking while I've typed this. Just shaking my head in disappointment. I can't give you guys anything more than a failing grade on this project, and that makes me a bit sad.

Posted on 05.03.08 00:53 AM by TonyB

@Everyone: See how I can’t leave you guys alone before you start to get angry. Silent Travis is usually busy Travis. When I am posting a lot on the boards it usually means I have some time to spare. It’s been a while so I am busy trying to get the update out of here. Unfortunately, this is complicated by the fact that I also am preparing to visit our HQ to talk about future PAIN content. This requires me to do the not so glamorous part of my job, which is preparing PowerPoint slides and presentations.

@Juggalo: I am not going to comment on that nuke comment you made as I know you are trying to get a rise out of me. If you insist on me telling you how things REALLY are you have to also be tolerant of the trial and error process that is software development. The MP3 player is not “nuked.” I was just playing F.W.E. while listening to Wu-Tang. It was in a word… serene.

@Dlotsbane: When there is a PAIN update it is done on the Thursday release schedule like all PSN titles. The one time when it happened on a Friday it was because I went bezerk over something that wasn’t cool.

@Haskell: There aren’t any button down PAIN shirts. If I had one I would consider it, but there are none. It’s a decent enough idea tho. What kind of PAIN character are you? Long post man? LOL.

@Roger: All characters aren’t as universally liked as you would like them to be. That’s cool. Wait for some new ones to come along. I just got a bunch of concepts and trust me there are some true gems coming.

@Jrabin93: Jack would sue. And I am not interested in that deposition.

@Hugh_Jorgan: First of all nice name… Dicky. Stay tuned with some of those suggestions. Heh. Really. You might be pleasantly surprised.

@Blizzard: OooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooKAY

@KrimsonSky25: Thanks for the info dude. Just for the record we are not having a problem with the Zombie we are just giving people a chance to weigh in. We do this internally all the time with other characters.

@Rikkiepower: I said I will give you a date when we are done with Format. We are submitting to them very VERY soon.

@Faux_Smoke: You act like you haven’t gotten anything in the seven months PAIN has been out. That’s not entirely true. I don’t want to get into this too much again but all I can tell you is that in that time we had to ship 2 additional versions of PAIN (One to Europe and One to Asia) now we ship updates at the same time. We could remain silent like most teams do or we can post here to tell you what’s up. I am not sure how one creates an environment that is 10x better than the last one without making a brand new game. I can tell you the next one is better than the last one. And there is more to it. More to it meaning moving parts, modes, multiplayer etc… that stuff takes time. In a sense it’s almost like building another PAIN. The fact that we can do this in the amount of time we have is actually impressive (to me anyways). Although people are NEVER happy when you delay a game they get very angry when you ship one that doesn’t improve upon lessons you should have learned from the last one.

@TonyB: Well I can safely assume that whatever you do it’s not entertainment software development. Frankly our job here is not rote like maybe an accountant. PAIN is not like most console games in that it takes time to get an update together. It takes even longer when you release one update for the entire world. This would be less of an issue if we just focused on what we could sell for PAIN as opposed to what we can do to support the community (ie free). I’ll argue that you didn’t buy PAIN for this update but you will get it for free nonetheless.

Examine the history of Sony games in general and ask yourself how many console games function like PAIN. How many have boards, solicit user feedback and then build to suit? Ask yourself how many console games actually add on to their content post launch? This is a new way of making console games, and because of that we have to build systems that honestly never existed before our launch. They never needed them.

Add to that the things that I can’t tell you about. The good things that have to do with supporting the PSN and things that may or may not come in the future. That takes a fair amount of planning and hard work. Through all of that we still need to ship updates and new environments, modes, characters. Just because you don’t have clarity into what we are doing behind the scenes doesn’t mean nothing is being done. Fair enough?

I am not sure how else you would like me to respond to a good idea besides saying that’s a good idea. Would you like me to say I will email programmers and tell them to fix it right away? The truth is they have that bug and others to fix. But I thank you for taking the time to point it out. Sometimes I know about these things sometimes I don’t.

And for the record: When I say “Good Idea” it actually has several meanings.

I say that because I think it’s a good idea.
I say that because I have said it before (usually in an email or meeting).
I say that because I point it out to people on the team who disagreed with me.
I say that because we are doing it in a version of PAIN that isn’t released.

But if you want to interpret that as I am never going to clean my room clearly there is nothing I can do to dissuade you. So okay. Good Idea.

I’ll take a failing grade for now as long as you admit to being reactionary in the months to come. Hows that for different language?

Posted on 05.03.08 11:19 AM by travis williams

@Faux_smoke and TonyB Travis has said that the new characters, updates and level will be out in a couple of weeks. They have to test them and make sure there are no bugs so be patient. You both have said that you have been waiting seven months and i can understand why you both are annoyed but the people at Idol Minds are trying to release new content as fast as they can. But why do you both come on here to moan? moaning is not going to get the new content out sooner.

Posted on 05.03.08 11:21 AM by Grimul

I wrote this before Travis put his post up, but what the heck?

********************
My people, as is now and has always been the case, developing a game will never happen quickly enough. I have been here at SCEA for almost seven years now, and even though I know a whole lot of what goes into game development, even I get impatient with teams here when they’re making something cool that I want to play ASAP. Sometimes it feels like it’s NEVER getting done. We all want it now, now, NOW, right? But kick and scream as we might, it ain’t gonna happen any sooner.

As you’ve noticed, although Travis posts a heck of a lot more than I do, even he can’t be here all the time. That’s mostly due to this wacky thing we call “development” that’s involved in putting together new content. We’ve been trying new things, succeeding at some, failing at others, but trying nonetheless. It will come in good time, but I guarantee this – it won’t come soon enough for everyone. We’re going to be dropping some pretty cool stuff, but I guarantee this – it won’t be cool enough for everyone. The Amusement Park is pretty big and really fun to play, but I guarantee this – it won’t be big enough and fun enough for everyone.

Our job is to make a good product, and that’s what we’re doing. We don’t assume that everything we do is going to get the illest ratings from game reviewers, and we don’t assume that everything we do is going to please every one of you. That would be stupid. We put it out there for the people who dig it to dig. If you’re one of them, sweet. If you’re not one of them, guess what…. That’s OK. If you don’t like what we do, that doesn’t make you a bad person, a stupid gamer, or a hater (well, SOME of y’all are haters!). Likewise, if what we make and how we make it doesn’t appeal to you, that doesn’t make us bad developers, it just means you don’t like it for whatever reason(s).

If you’re “over it”, that’s how it is, and nothing I tell you on this board will change your mind. Personally, I think it’s GREAT for you to go spend some time on other games. We’ve made a pretty unique product, so I’m sure none of those games you play are going to be very much like PAIN anyway, and it’s good to have some variety in your game library. Bottom line? New content is coming. Some of you are going to love it, some of you might not feel it, and some of you are going to search for more reasons to complain. It’s inevitable.

To those of you who feel the need to say, “Peace out, PAIN,” I say, “Peace.” We’ll be back with more stuff. If you come back and you dig it, good on you. If not, enjoy whatever else you’re playing. All I will ever promise you is that when we release new content, we’re releasing content that we like and content that we think is fun. The magic of it is that you are free to agree or disagree. Abra cadabra, cats.

@Travis - Actually I work in The entertainmeny biz, live theatre. I'm sitting at my automation console right now (it's intermission) I understand where you are coming from, but at the same time, I don't understand why you guys can't put out small fixes that address problems that have been brought up and you have acknowledged. To me it would just fall under basic maintainance to fix the bugs that are known.

I also understand you are doing things to versions of PAIN that we don't have, but we can't fix things in the version we DO have, so it falls to you guys to make our game work properly. To my "outside the studio" eyes, it seems like you guys are letting things go too long.

As far as console games getting updates, heck GTA4 already has a patch out today, and a large number of the games I have (about 65 disk and PSN) have had updates or patches, so I don't know where you're going with that.

I guess my main point here is there are issues that need to be fixed WHILE we wait for new content. Sorry if that seems like I'm asking a lot, but if my car has a flat, I don't take the bus until a new model car is released, I fix the tire I have.

I hope you also notice I'm not H8ing, just voicing some concerns, heck, I didn't even give you any D.O.O.S.H. rating!

I have to get back to work now, but I hope you see where I'm coming from...C-YA

Posted on 05.03.08 11:56 AM by TonyB

good points tony, but how do you play 65 different games?

Posted on 05.03.08 12:07 PM by Duncan

@Grimul - Learn to read...4 D.O.O.S.H. rating for you!

@Duncan - I have no social life, and I like games. I also have no wife or kids and make good $$, so I buy games whenever I feel like it. Some I play once or twice, some I play a lot. I also don't believe in supporting gamestop, so I don't trade in games I don't like.

Posted on 05.03.08 12:20 PM by TonyB

Tony B, as I just stated above, I will never hate on you for wanting more and wanting it sooner. I would love to patch more often and do bug fixes and smaller content releases here and there. However, there is a LOT more to PAIN than just Travis and I, so everything we do in PAIN takes more time than even I’D like. Plus, while it's impossible to prove this, I'd put long money on the probability that even if we did more frequent patches and smaller content releases, the blowback would be, "You guys patch too much! Why don't you hold off until you can give us some REAL content!"

If we were out to please everyone, we'd be in a lose/lose situation because of this sort of thing. We'll make it happen, though, Cap'n. If we lose a few people along the way, I like to think they'll dig what we do when it comes out. And again - it they don't like it, I won't cry....I'll be too busy working on the next content.

In short, yes, I see where you're coming from. The point I would make is that there's always going to be somebody else coming from somewhere else. Regardless, I think it's dope that you have a voice here. We don't read you guys' posts because we want praise (although it's nice every now and then). We read your posts because we want to know what you think, regardless of how loving or critical of us it might be. We don’t say, “Let them eat cake!” We say, “Hey, y’all can have some of this cake if you want, but what kind of frosting do you want on it? Want some milk, too?” In spite of our perceived shortcomings, I hope that counts for something.

@Tony: Okay this is how it works

Notice a bug
Apply Fix
Send to QA (in all three territories)
Send to Format (in all three territories)
Ship to consumer.

So we have three different QA departments all able to find brand new bugs once you submit a “fix” All three territories also have their own issues they are willing to pass or fail you on. While some territories can apply patches fast others cannot. Some territories can take as long as WEEKS before releasing something other territories have cleared. So if you are going to go through all that pain (pardon the pun) to ship a simple patch you might as well ship the whole thing. Otherwise it isn’t cost effective. The concept of basic maintenance is not what you think in console development. That is why the QA process takes a long time. Generally console games are a lot more stable than PC games. So nothing is QUICK.

And the very nature of fixing a bug might be annoying to you but has other side effects. Fix this bug then 4 others appear because of your “fix”. Some bugs in games are there because the alternative is worse. Some bugs are easy to fix. We fixed a bug in PAIN in 2 days as well. But we also weren’t in the middle of shipping an update and a whole new environment. GTA and PAIN don’t share code so it’s apples and oranges really. There is no bug you are experiencing in PAIN now that keeps you from playing. You might not like it but is whatever your experiencing REALLY keeping you from playing?

Where I am going with that is that there is a difference between some patch to fix functionality and actually changing development directives based on user input. PAIN was never really meant to be a multiplayer game. But we thought based on user input it needed to happen. There are many other options in PAIN that are there because of user input. That type of whole scale reworking takes time. That’s in addition to making good on other development directives.

Believe it or not PAIN sits at the forefront of some of the newest tech that PSN does. We were among the first with Dualshock, In Game Content… there area host of other things we are in the process of doing that complicate our current situation. We are not a GTA 200+ person team so we pick and choose what we remedy.

And your car metaphor doesn’t work. I am just not going to bother explaining why.

And the lack of giving me a d.o.o.s.h rating or H8ing is noted but implying that because you haven’t gotten a fix or new content we all would be fired in your line of work isn’t exactly being open to any sort of explanation either. That comment at best is inflammatory… but I take it in stride as well….

Because I have to get back to work myself.

@ everyone:
i feel that there is too much bickering going on. let the professionals get on with their job and quit whining. these people go out of their way to keep us up to date and do a damn good job of it too. if they can concentrate on their job and not stop and tell you guys to SHUT THE FU... i mean HELL UP, the content will come quicker.

i can understand why you guys want the content, but try to keep yourself busy instead of sitting at your computer. there is a world beyond the keyboard. go out once in a while and don't repeat already asked questions.

Posted on 05.03.08 12:47 PM by Mikey

@Mikey: I honestly don’t mind answering questions. It’s what we are here for. I can actually understand why people feel like we should be doing more. The only thing I can say to that is we are. Some of it is not apparent as other but we are hard at work. Still I had a nice laugh at your comment.

And for the record we launched 11-22-07 Which is not exactly seven months. When I think about that date and the couple weeks we rested after shipping I think we are doing rather well. There is always room for improvement.

I do want to say thanks to people like TonyB though. Without the early adopters we wouldn’t have had the juice (cred) to make more cool stuff. So thanks for the leeway. We needed it.

Posted on 05.03.08 13:36 PM by travis williams

@Travis - Thanks for that, and I have much respect for you guys, and I think you guys know that. Some people (looks up a couple comments) don't seem to understand how conversations work. Not all the disagreements/jabbering is bickering. I'm glad to have a forum where I can put my 2 cents in, and get a response. I stated a case, Travis and Coker stated their points, and now we all move along feeling we had our say.

No STFU's, no you are a _____. Just two sides of the fence saying how they feel.

Travis - I apologize for the "fired" comment, it was meant as a general, not a direct shot, sorry I worded it poorly.

@ travis

Great zombie ideas! I like #2 better. But i would really like to play as that construction worker! And i see you guys are going into the world of monstors (how the hell do u spell that!!!!!?????), so will there be any more monsters (o my god!) like a warewolf? Also, and ive been spending months on this idea, so please be nice, how about animal characters like panda bears and zebras and alligators, Flinestones guys (i cant spell anythin right), Austin Powers, James Bond, or another zombie character, but of George Washington or Jarvis after landing in a cement mixer (hed have a cement covered head that cracks until it breaks!!)

Also, what about a zombie who is only a top half holding a lawnmower? Dumb idea, but whatever. Keep up the great work, looking forward to new content!

Posted on 05.03.08 14:52 PM by blargem

@Mikey

Chill out bro, go spank some monkies.

Seriously, if they wanted us to stop, dont ya think they would just say so, or not post replys to us? Think about what youve done.

Posted on 05.03.08 14:55 PM by blargem

@blargem - 1) You spelled monsters right on the 2nd try, good work!
2) Half a zombie with a lawnmower??!!??!! HAHA!! I can't tell if that's genius or disturbing, but it sure sounds funny looking.

Posted on 05.03.08 15:01 PM by TonyB

I'm gonna have to agree with Mikey on this. You guys wonder why most dev teams don't ask for user input or talk to customers/players...this is why.

Travis answering questions is one thing, but for him to have to reiterate the same information multiple times is outrageous. If I was him I would be thinking about what a waste of time some of you are and probably not post back on here.

Thankfully he's a nicer guy then me. I can't wait for the new update, hopefully that will shut everyone up for quite a while.

Posted on 05.03.08 15:49 PM by ToN

Silly me, but I'm pretty sure the game is coded in C (maybe C++, but it's a game so I'll stick guessing C). The fire-hydrant slowdown, probably could have been handled by just taking 1 SPU, and letting the rest keep chugging away, then giving the SPU back to the PPE afterword. But the bug fixes shouldn't show up a lot of other bugs. Use PC-LINT, or some other lint if you can find it. Granted I don't do games, and my experience writing stuff on PS3 is nil, I can't believe it's that different than Open-MP, or MPI. A pain, yes, hard definitely. But small fixes giving QA something to bitch about? (I'm talking the collision detection with Hung-Lo and the girls, and the sound on Muffy). I know your team rocks, and I'm not nockin' your cred on the board, I believe patches really are that hard in your environment, but I question the why. About how many lines of code are we talking here?

Posted on 05.03.08 17:19 PM by srart

@Travis
Please explain this to me because it has blown my mind since the first time I've heard you say it. This shipping and distribution thing. You don't package your product so that makes no sense. It's a simple upload is it not?

Posted on 05.03.08 17:19 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

....in addition:
If you can fix bugs in 2 days, why can't you take 2 weeks and address AND FIX the problems that have been repeatedly stated on this board for months? You know when your new updates come out they won't be bug free. So if you don't fix the old ones first, arn't you just going to add to the pile rather than take away? It's just bad business in my opinion. You can't deny or try to persuade us with any explination that that is not the truth. A quality product should be your focus. It's true as Coke said, you won't make everyone happy. So wouldn't you rather have complaints be opinions rather than defects in your product? Think about that.

Posted on 05.03.08 17:24 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Tony
**CLAP** **CLAP** **CLAP**
:::STANDING OVATION:::

Posted on 05.03.08 17:26 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

@MutilatRJuggalo:
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the fixes/patches will be coming with the update, but I am supprised that getting stuff through QA for patches is that involved, I unerstand that QA time spent on patches is less time on the update patches, but Say you or I were doing this, in 1 day I would havbe to believe we would gothrough everything that is involved in the game, QA may not be as good as you at mime toss, but I'm willing to bet they are as good as me on pretty much everything, hit every combo that you can think of, every collision, bombs blasting you into the ground, etc ... The PS3 may really be that different.
So the short version is, not putting the small fixes out between bigger patches is cost control, I can appreachiate that, but I'm just surprised it's that big a deal.

Posted on 05.03.08 18:00 PM by srart

@Juggs: Please tell me what you believe are bugs that keep you from playing PAIN. Now be sure not to drift into feature enhancement. BUGS. I can’t break down the entire process for you I just don’t have the time but I can tell you if you have a BUG FREE candidate for mass production it will still take you 2-20 days to post it online. That’s the process. I didn’t invent it. I just have to abide by it. While in America you have one territory when you are a game that is everywhere you have to deploy code to several countries. That doesn’t happen with the flip of a switch.

Every product has “defects” the question is are these defects so critical that you cannot play or enjoy the game. There is not a product shipped that I cannot find a bug with. And are you saying PAIN isn’t a quality product? Because I would have to disagree.

@Srart: QA doesn’t have to be as good as everyone else playing the game. Their job isn’t really to play PAIN but to find as many defects as possible and make us aware of them. As a producer I have to decide if this “defect” is something we can fix now or later or never. It depends on the severity. With the way you guys are talking you would think you guys are getting crashes, lockups and the sort.

Sooo Juggs I’m waiting. Since you seem to be the loudest cat on the board tonight let’s hear it.

Posted on 05.03.08 18:26 PM by travis williams

@srart
Maybe...but has Travis said a single thing about what patches/fixes will be coming with the new update? NO! He's only mentioned new content. If they had completed a fix of a problem, shouldn't we at least be made aware? Even if we know we have to wait?
Just to know the problem will be fixed would eliminate a bunch of repeated questions/concerns!
Travis has told us since Christmas of things to come, and has probably only been accurate on like 10%. That may be a generous number.
In my opinion , it's kinda like renting an apartment. The complex could be full of roaches, rats, and mice, yet they make the place look nice for you when you move in. So you rent it. Yet once you have problems, they take forever to be addressed, even if it's a simple fix. Or they just cover up the problem only to create another. Travis said they fixed things in 2 days. IT'S BEEN MONTHS, WHERE IS A PATCH? IT'S AN UPLOAD! THAT'S IT! No packaging, no printing, no artwork, NOTHING but an upload!! If you arn't messing with the menu screens, it shouldn't be a problem internationally right?
No translation or anything needed but just an update to the code.
The bottom line, they don't have to go through the Playstation store to give us a patch. That rules a mess of problems out of the equasion. So why can't we get one? I see other games get patches all the time. You start the game, it updates, you restart, bam, problem solved. Why if PAIN is based on online updates, can't we just get 1? No new content, just repairs to what we paid for. Kinda like a recall on a car. Except you don't have to go anywhere. Just start the game.

Posted on 05.03.08 18:36 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Srart: So you think oh yeah I just type in the GIVE THIS TO THE SPU Line and it’s all done right? I think you are trivializing a very complex procedure. I am going to try to explain what is going on with the hydrant to see if you can understand what I mean.

And lets be clear before I start. The hydrant is a known issue. I say issue because although it affects gameplay its effects can be minimized or removed by camera angles.

PAIN relies on a Havok to handle quite a bit of physics. Because PAIN is like a sandbox I think people don’t fully realize how many moving parts can be in motion at the same time in PAIN. So while you might just be looking at water from a hydrant that explosion that you hear in the distance is throwing geometry all over the place.. which likely caused another explosion. So that SPU that you think is just sitting there… yeah it’s kinda busy right now. It’s not that we can’t find this problem. We know exactly where it is and in the scheme of things it is less important than other bugs.

I think the character impact sound bug is something that I have commented on at least 4 times on the boards so why not another time. The problem was a missing sound bank and is already fixed in our next update. Like I said in the previous post. It’s a sound bug so although it might be frustrating it doesn’t interfere with how you PLAY. Which is the bigger problem. We don’t need to discuss this anymore because it’s fixed.

Why wait to push that simple fix? Well like I said before to post any patch requires a submission to QA and then format. If we are already in a cycle to push more content why not just include it. Otherwise I will have to manage a patch through QA while working on another content release. The simple answer is just do it at once. The same holds true for the logo bypass. Also not a bug and also doesn’t hamper gameplay. It’s in the new patch. Why not push that to you… SAME REASON.

I am sure another question would be well this game uses Havok and etc… well you see it depends on what version of Havok you ship with. We decided on a version that would ensure we ship last year. There are plenty of improvements since then. To update our Havok would essentially mean you would have to redownload PAIN. And then I have to ask myself again is it worth it all?

@Juggalo: The reason I was able to fix a bug in 2 days was because there really wasn’t a bug in our code it was a network bug. So we were able to fix that. You guys ask me why I don’t give you dates. Your last post is exactly why. If I tell you that to fix something in the game takes a while. If a bug is found in the format process you have to resubmit. That starts the whole process AGAIN. Depending on the severity of the bug. So next time when I don’t tell you a date remember this post. I sure will. The fact is ALL our patches go through the same process as anything on the store. Everything involving code you see there goes through this process. EVERYTHING!

I cannot be sure what bug answers I have posted. I know for a fact I have said the sound bug was fixed. Go ahead go back and see. So the very first line of your post isn’t true…

And you already got an update Juggalo. It was a free single player mode. That had patches in it too. Just because you didn’t see them doesn’t mean they weren’t there.

Posted on 05.03.08 18:57 PM by travis williams

Fellas (and Ladies if you're lurking), if improving PAIN were as simple as someone looking at a few lines of code, making the change, having a cat in QA bang it around for a little while, and chucking it up on PSN, I'd quite possibly sell my car and dance my way to work every day (probably doing the Smurf or the Two-Foot Jerry Lewis, because I rock it old school like that). For better or for worse though, there are several processes in place that make everything we do take longer than we would all like.

Setting up content releases, be it just bug fixes, new characters, new environments, or whatever, is a coordinated effort between the Production team, the Dev team, Marketing, the PSN group, an online services group, the QA team, a Format group, and a Project Coordination team to hold it all together. Sounds overwhelming, I'm sure, but everyone involved is a big part of everything you dig about PAIN.

PAIN is a new kind of game, and PSN is a whole new world altogether for SCEA, so what you all are experiencing is the birth of something completely new for all of us. The bad news is that you are experiencing the growing pains (no pun intended) of a new kind of game on a new platform within a new delivery mechanism (that being PSN on PS3). The good news is that while you might not see it from your side of things, PSN-wise, we are pretty damned innovative, and the things we have managed to accomplish with PAIN are just going to make the overall PSN experience better for everyone in the future, especially our beloved H8 Squad.

Best believe that I feel you guys when you have questions or get frustrated. But I have faith that we're just going to continue to get better, stronger, and faster at what we're doing. Idol Minds kicks major Monkey butt, and as long as they keep doing it like they have been, I'm sure we're gonna be just fine. If you can't hang with us through the tough times, take a break and hit us up when the new stuff comes out. We'll be around. That's. My. Word.

Peace,
Coke

Posted on 05.03.08 18:59 PM by Jason Coker

LOL We've been cross posting all day today Coke. Smile

@Everyone: So you got the same answer (more or less) from the guys who have to put this together from the production side at SCEA.

And although we are both at home. Somehow we both are still working. I don't even know who got kicked off Idol yet. I hope it's Castro. He's got a Sanjaya vibe that I am totally not diggin.

Posted on 05.03.08 19:08 PM by Jason Coker

@Everybody - Say what you will about todays posts, but in my opinion, a whole lot of good was done here. A nice venting, reaction, and re-reaction. I think we all may understand some things we didn't before, and I think everybody (except mikey) had some good things to say. I know I feel better! By the way Travis...what's the release dat....OH!! OH!! Just kidding!!!!

Posted on 05.03.08 19:47 PM by TonyB

@Everybody- I think TonyB sums it up damn well. Although I haven't posted for a while I still check the boards daily even though I've not played Pain for a while & I'm sure alot of you are the same. This shows strength in the community & is exactly why this site exists. To be honest I'm dissapointed that we still have not had new content for a while but theres nothing we can do but wait. It's good that people voice their opinions but Mikey don't aim comments at individuals for their opinions every one is entitled to one. As once said by François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778) 'I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it'.

@Travis/Coker- Thanks for the updates & keep chugging away. Although you get negative comments they often come from the old school members & it's good to see you treat their opions with respect. After all these are the people that will ride with you till the death no matter what happens. Quick quote for you boys to sum up what replies you get to your posts Aruthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) 'All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident'. One thing I would like to see here to support the community is a page like pose of the week that lists the content of patches & what has been addressed. Quick question if I may, with the update will we still have the ability to skip the intro? Oh & wheres the goats? lol

@Juggalo, TonyB, Srart- Great debate gents, very interesting views & a great read. Certainly cleared the air & made feelings known. Catch you online soon whether it be Pain or not.

@Kasper- If I translated your comment correctly, why the hell do we want to know that?

Posted on 05.04.08 03:51 AM by mortal_sinner

@Travis
uhh, what about my first line wasn't true?
You fixed bugs in 2 days, or you don't package your product? LOL.
Again Travis, I love PAIN, but since I beat it, I don't play it because it is becoming a little to repetetive. My only major problem with PAIN is that it was released too early. Before you had enough content either already done or in testing so that the flow of new content could be on a more steady basis.
As far as things that keep me from playing PAIN.
1. Not seeing you and Coke in that video spittin. I was hyped as hell, you hyped it up, then dropped a bomb. OUCH!!! Or should I say, Ooch!
2. The damn fire hydrant. I HATE IT.
3. The camera gets stuck, even if you reset it, to where you can't see your character. This happens in places like under the Manhole, under the train tracks, on the sides of buildings, up in the air, and sometimes in the subway.

P.S.
Yes I was taking a jab at you with the nuke comment. The table was set...had to do it.

Posted on 05.04.08 04:24 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

I just want to say that even though I'm not even CLOSE to any of these guys in terms of skill, I still play a lot of PAIN and when my friends are over we more or less drink beer and play pain bowling. And when online multiplayer comes out with the amusement park, omfg Pain Bowling ftw!

I admit, you US guys have had the game MUCH longer then us mere mortal Europeans so the wow factor wears off earlier for you guys but with all honesty PAIN has/is not only a ten dollar value game, I would even have thought twice to pay 20 dollars for it and still be happy.

I'll agree that when people play it as hardcore as you guys it might have become boring/trivial by now, but still, you guys have put enough into it to justify the pricetag, no?

I'm not putting anyone down or saying that they don't have the right to voice their opninions, I just want to voice mine too:

I really really love this game, it's probably the one game that I've enjoyed the most since buying my ps3, keep up the good work guys!

Oh, and ONE question, I think I've read all comments ever(which takes a while when one starts coming here late march/early april) and I don't think this one has been answered, but I apologize if it is:

Online leaderboards and awards(as in website or soemthing) is that something we're going to have? I mean, in game ranking/leaderboards are nice and all, but I wanna brag to my friends about my awards(which is basically just me showing them that I have absolutely nothing better to do than to grab 5000 times)

Also, this entire international thing with the ps3, it's not only PAIN, you Americans should see the european PSN store, we don't have half the shit you guys have in terms of demos, even games.

Posted on 05.04.08 04:39 AM by René

I would like to see how many people have what trophes. I just need 2 more in FWE to get them all, but it took me forever! I am a big fan and as a developer myself I think you guys are rolling things out at a pretty good pace. Fix the mime getting stuck in the sign though. That is anoying.

Posted on 05.04.08 04:52 AM by OneButton

Oh and to the above, the reason everyone gives for the lack of EU content is international approvals and the sorts, damn bureaucrats Tong

Posted on 05.04.08 04:57 AM by René

@Juggs
PAIN was released when we wanted it to. In our opinion it wasn’t early. For 10 bucks people get a lot from PAIN and I still stand behind our assertion that pound for pound there is more in PAIN than almost any other downloadable game in our price range. You first line asserts that I haven’t said a single thing about what patches/fixes are with the update. Which is untrue.

I have said that I don’t plan on revisiting the hydrant issue until we slow down a bit (even then I am doubtful). It’s just not worth going back to address when we have bigger fish to fry. Move the camera so it’s not pointed directly at the water spout and your frame rate will improve. If you have a problem with the camera staying with your character press the R3 button (this is the analog stick press it in. It’s actually a button as well as a stick) this will recenter the camera on you. Challenging camera positions are going to happen. Much like the hydrant some of these are known and although work on them would be nice it doesn’t happen so often that we feel like we need to go in and reposition. The better solution (we think) is to build new areas that don’t have this issue (as much).

I won’t go into detail why I decided not to release the video, but it was over what I believe to be quality issues. There were edits people wanted that I did not agree with so I killed it. I would rather have no video than one that I thought was less than ideal. You feel me? That’s part of my job. To protect PAIN from the forces of wackness.

We know that until we release content you guys are either check out or be upset with us. WE KNOW IT. Just as Coke said it’s okay if you press PAUSE on PAIN for second. We’re still going to be here chugging away. You will be happy with the update and happier with the Amusement Park. While everyone is thinking we aren’t doing anything we are making sure the new content rocks and that Pimp Slappin changes the game. We’re busy complicating YOUR favorite mode and making sure that the next episode of PAIN (after the amusement park) doesn’t take as long to produce.

Next week Coke is posting a complete list of what the new update looks like. Hopefully this will prove to people that we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

PS.
Just as long as you realize what’s good for the goose… Don’t think I won’t snap back. You know I’m petty.

@Kasper: Here he goes yall got him goin again!!

@Rene: I am not going to point fingers with why the PSN looks the way it does it Europe. That’s not my territory. However, your statement alone should prove to our users that shipping things internationally (and simultaneous) isn’t as “simple” as one might think. That being said we are doing okay with it. And we will get even better as time goes on. .. and thanks for the props.

@OneButton: Thanks for the love. Mime getting stuck in the sign? Huh? Help me out here.

Posted on 05.04.08 05:01 AM by travis williams

@OneButton: You will have some clarity into how many trophies other players have when we release the Amusement Park. That is part of that design. Or shall I nuke that option Juggalo?

Posted on 05.04.08 05:03 AM by travis williams

Wow all this H8 sucks. If there's anyone left to stick up for PAIN, I suggest joining me here to correct some wrong playstation board users:

Look at you getting all philisophical. LOL. Nice dude.

Posted on 05.04.08 06:14 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Juggalo- 2 1/2 years of being a dad does these things to you you know. Wait & see!

@Travis- Have you any plans to merge the enviroments, maybe via the sewer system or train track? Be cool to go through a vent like the subway & get blown into another enviroment & add to the life span of the playability. Also I think OneButton is refering to the doctor billboard, well the grate below it is where I've had many issues.

@Rene- Good question, It has been asked & answered before. There is meant to be a link added to this site to see the leader boards & such. It is however one of the things 'comming soon'. Keep going to get your last trophies, which 2 are they by the way?

Posted on 05.04.08 07:09 AM by mortal_sinner

@ToN, broken link.

@Travis,
Castro is terrible. Glad he's gone. He was getting way too smarmy. I did like "I Shot the Tamborine Man" haha. Anyone else think it was funny we had a Castro and a Noriega (Danny) in the top 12 this year?

Also, Travis - here is my gripe. It's not a big deal and you definitely shouldn't develop with me in mind. I don't play the game very much and I'm not your target market. But you guys keep insisting it's a sandbox style game and how solid the physics engine is - but then you won't give us "access" to it. I really think I'd get on PAIN tonight and launch my character into a giant bowl and watch him slide around the outside. I'd launch the guy into a couple of hollow cylinders, like ski-ball, and watch him bounce off the edges. The flexibility and technology powering this game is awesome - but it's taking SO LONG (in our eyes) to create new levels. I'm just saying that I'm not asking for crazy detailed levels with automated animations and tons going on - I think our demands are much simpler. We just want new things to smash into. Seriously, who wouldn't play PAIN right now if I uploaded a (FREE) level where you shot into the air and landed in a ballpit or swung between a couple swinging ropes (like the rebar hanging) to see how far you could go? Personally, it seems like you all are being perfectionists with the content when we just want more stuff. By doing that, you're letting the community generate unrealistic expectations of what is coming out since it's taking a while.

I do want to say - you make a GREAT point I hadn't thought about regarding paving the way on the PSN. One of the first in-game stores, implementing in-game music now, showing people you can add multiplayer, etc. By continuing to support the PSN's new features, you're probably making it easier for other games to borrow your code or follow your path. So for that behind-the-scenes stuff that is helping evolve the PS3's future games that may be more up my alley, thanks a bunch!

Sorry for the long post, just my $0.02.

Sorry, folks, but I HAVE to say this:

If somehow this board devolves into frequent discussions of anything to do with American Idol, I will make it my life's mission to build a real life PAIN-style launcher, track down and snatch up every one of you Idol watchers, and launch you into a giant bowl full of rusty razor blades and salty rubbing alcohol (starting with YOU, Travis). That show is just plain WRONG!!!!! WRONG, I SAY!!!!

No, I'm short of A LOT of awards, I basically mostly have the ones that doesn't require skill, just a lot of playing hours Laughing

But thanks for the answer, I must've missed that Smile Even though this is more or less just comments for the blog I wish there was a search feature!

Monsieur Coker,
I started watching American Idol out of pure boredom during the writer's strike (maybe if SOMEONE provided me with a new PAIN level I wouldn't have been so bored, haha j/k). The problem with that show, I've found in my short viewership, is that it insists upon itself.
Also, remember your company is called "Idol Minds" so I have to just assume all you think about is that show. You could call yourselves Idle Minds, since that'd be more appropriate. haha ok had to H8 real quick.

But seriously, my only reference to American Idol was to point out that contestants this year were named after communist dictators. Why so much anger?

@Travis, Coker:
Hey guys, I defended the not putting the patches out because I belive it really is that big a pain, I'm just curious why it's that hard. As far as the SPU, I'm supprised it's not done with a pragma setting affinity for a processor, thats all, not a shot at your coding, just a dev question.
Peace,

Posted on 05.04.08 10:15 AM by srart

Srart, it's not about how hard it is to fix bugs. As you obviously seem to understand, some bug fixes are pretty basic, and some require more work than you'd imagine. As I said before, if Idol Minds' Coders could just fix the code, test for a minute, and ship it, we'd be golden a lot of the time. That's not how it goes down, though.

Beyond the fact fixing code isn't always a super simple process, it's the rolling out of content that requires massive amounts of coordination between a lot of groups. It's probably just bureaucratic overkill in the minds of most people, but I'm quite sure the process will get streamlined and smoothed out on the R&B tip as both PAIN and PSN grow and we all learn from our successes and mistakes. Fixing small bugs and putting out small patches requires moving a large "machine" behind the scenes, and to be perfectly blunt, it's just not worth it to operate that way at the moment. We may get there, though. For now, we just have to keep doing what we've been doing and trying to improve all of our processes along the way. Hope that makes sense, cat.

Posted on 05.04.08 12:18 PM by Jason Coker

StalkingSilence, I'm really not much of a TV viewer, and honestly, I've never sat and watched an entire episode of American Idol. …..mostly, it was because I was bleeding from my eyes and ears once it came on….. I just think the whole premise and presentation are corny, and I have LONG been over this voyeuristic pseudo-entertainment we've been force fed for the past several years (Survivor:BFE or Real World:Whydoourratingssucknow, anyone?).

Still, my biggest beef with American Idol has been that I can't escape that show. It's fine that I don't like it. Like I said - I don't watch much TV, and I definitely don't have to watch it. The problem is that it is EVERYwhere. I go to check my Yahoo mail, it's a "News" story AND an Entertainment story on the front page; I flip on the radio, the hosts are talking about it; I watch the news during a Presidential election year, and they talking about that show; I do a Google search, there are ads about it; I hang out with people I know, they're babbling about it; I come to the PAIN site, Travis is torturing me with it. That show must be stopped. It's stalking me like that crazy guy with Uma Thurman. I live in fear that one day I'm gonna turn around from my desk and see Travis and an Idol contestant standing there with flowers and a bunch of weird letters. NOOOOOOO!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!

OK, I'm done. Time to launch MYSELF into that bowl for talking about that pooptacular show here. Back to PAIN biznizz, folks.

Ahhh, that post. Yeah, you're right, foot in my mouth on that one. Good call.
As far as your nuking the trophy thing, I'd have to say, #1 that wasn't even funny, and #2, you're retarded for saying it. LOL. Not your best work. You are far more whitty than that and I expect more from you.

@Travis
In my post I mentioned that even after reseting the camera, your character gets stuck out of view. Sometimes reseting (R3) the camera is what makes it happen. Just so we are clear on that.
Also, I've noticed that your character can essentially dissapear into the curb on the side street to the left of the launcher. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't, but almost always they go through the curb. It seems to be the worst next to the building. It just doesn't seem to be a solid barrier.

I must say, I am appalled by the unprofessional nature towards the consumers I have seen by the Idol Minds staff who post here.

1. Since when is it good business practice to argue with, and take a "defensive stature" towards your consumers? conversing about opinions and updates is one thing, but there have been multiple posts of Idol Minds Employees directly attacking a consumer who posted a comment that they didn't like. That's just ridiculous, and poor business etiquette. Why is it that most of the replies under this blog post by Idol Minds staff are defensive?

2. @Travis. You state that some of the bugs (like the hydrant bug) are not important enough right now because you have "bigger fish to fry". The issue with this is that it may not be important enough to you or your team, but your team is not the consumer paying for the game. I have seen multiple comments from consumers throughout concerning the hydrant issue, so apparently it is something that the consumers want to be fixed quickly. Different people has different standards on what would render a game unplayable (I myself cannot play a game or watch a TV show if the speech is even 1/4 second off from the lip movement, it just irks me too much), but as the developer, the consumer's standards should have just as much weight, if not more, than your own. If I go to a clothing store, I buy clothes that I like, not clothes that the Manager of Fruit of the Loom likes (I know it's a weird analogy, but it works).

3. Content amount. This is a big topic for a lot of people, and I can understand why. I have heard the employees of Idol Minds who post here state that they feel the amount of content that was available was correct for the price. I myself will have to disagree. A good example of a somewhat comparable PSN game would be Toy Home. I'm using it for comparison because it contains some of the same qualities, like destructive structures, physics (to an extent), and collisions (to an extent). The first level in Toy home is bigger per comparative square foot than the level in Pain (pain does have more interaction per square foot though). You pay the same price for Toy Home and Pain, but Toy home comes with a lot more than just one level. Sure there is a lot to do in that one level, but there is only so many times I can launch into the bowling ball before it gets annoyingly repetitive, and "New Characters" do not rectify this repetition. Both Toy Home and Pain have different modes of play too, so stating "we give you such and such different modes of play" doesn't cut the cake either. I could use the same comparative to other games, but it is not needed. I don't know about others, but I don't play games because I knew a developer put a lot of blood, sweat, & tears into creating it. I play games because I enjoy them. When I, along with a good percentage of people that purchased Pain feel that we purchased a "glorified demo" at the time due to it's lack of content, it was upsetting.

4. I like the second zombie better. For a pose, he could have his hands spread out, with his legs together (like he's mimicking a plane) and have him blowing a raspberry (like he's making the sound an old prop plane makes).

Posted on 05.06.08 15:19 PM by Hatchet Man Studios

@Hatchet-Liven' up mate, they are working on all the problems they know of & are informed of. It's a slow process, I sure.

And as for their "unprofessional nature". Welcome to the 21st Century. I personally find it refreshing that you can communicate, chat & argue with the development staff, it promotes growth of understanding for both (or all) sides.

@Travis- I'd like to make my own (highly-unlikely-to-ever-happen) suggestion: for world leaders (such as T. Blair, B. Clinton, G.Brown, G.Bush etc. etc.) to become characters.

Keep up the good work

My vote for a new character would have to be,
(aside from the T-Rex and baseball ump) would be Feminem. I know a guy by the name of Jamie Madrox who could do all your audio for him. Plus he is what you would call a professional at audio recording.

Posted on 05.06.08 17:53 PM by The_Probe

Hi everyone, just wanted to say I'm really looking forward to all the new stuff on it's way.
I know there seems to be alot of bad feelings about the time it's taking etc but I've got an idea for a future up-date.
How about a level editor? It wouldn't need to be anything fancy, just various shapes and objects to place around to make your very own level. I'm sure with very simple objects players could make their own complex levels, even making levels with their own goals eg how many swings you could perform in a row (suggested on a previous post)farthest distance travelled etc, you could even have crazy golf with leaderboards. This would add loads of longetivity as players could upload and share their designs.
I know that there is a lot of new stuff coming soon, but I believe this could really add something extra and make a more interactive community with people rating each others levels etc. Sort of like a Painfull version of Little Big Planet.

Posted on 05.06.08 18:09 PM by The_Probe

@MutilatRJuggalo lol, I'd love to see Joe & Joey, Or Madrox & Monoxide as characters, that would be sweet.

@Hatchet

To clarify, the only Idol Minds employee who posts here is Jeff Litchford, and his posts are few and far. Travis and Jason work Sony.

But in the afterthought, saying that is irrelevant and does nothing to address the concerns being raised in this forum. I just had to say it Smile

@Travis - I just thought of a new character I would buy for sure. A Launchable GAMESTOP employee. I met one this morning you could model it after, and if you need to see what it looks like in the air, I could get some video of me throwing it through the front of the store. WITH PLEASURE!!!!! God those guys are DOOSHBAGS!!!!!

Posted on 05.06.08 23:52 PM by TonyB

@Hatchet
Yes, it would be hilarious. We could try and re-enact Joe's devestating moonsault incident. LOL. Joey would sound exceptionally raw flying through the air. Plus Joe's really good at doing some MJ moves, so he'd have some raw poses. Either way they could both have 2 liters of faygo as they flew through the air. Have the soda shooting out the cap like before it's fully unscrewed.

Posted on 05.07.08 00:47 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

...then when they take a bump, the faygo could shoot off like a precision punt or faygo bomb.
Twiztidwith the spider hair flopping in the breeze. TIGHT!!! FREEEEEESSSSSSSHHHHH!!!

Posted on 05.07.08 00:49 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Hatchet: To use your clothes analogy: Not all clothes are for you and if you don't like what the Fruit of the loom people want you to wear then go to a different store. It's that simple, really, Now, I happen to like the "clothes" PAIN have to offer so I'll buy it, but there's probably games that you own and feel rocks that I wouldn't like. A friend of mine is convinced that he was set into this world to play Final Fantasy games while I on the other hand feel that they suck, I don't like and I can't for the life of me understand why he does, but that's his choice. And mine, cuz I don't buy them.

It's 10 dollars dude, I have personally spent more hours playing PAIN then it takes to play through most singleplayer games like Drake's fortune and so on.

Oh and the attitude of Travis and co is by far the coolest part of this "blog" community, I like that they feel like real people who are honest and can make fun of us just as we do them. I personally haven't seen them write anything that could be considered offensive to anyone.

I just got gold on mimetoss on painful, yay Smile

Posted on 05.07.08 01:44 AM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Knizzle: You misunderstood the "clothes analogy". You mistook it to describe Pain as a whole, when it was meant to describe the developer's priority of "other things" over the fix of much requested bug fixes.

there both great and what about a psp pain it would be great it would be fun to play on the go.

Posted on 05.08.08 14:24 PM by brad_snake412

@Hatchet: Sorry then Smile

I realize that some people want certain bugs fixed and according to Travis they are, but we're waiting on them to get approved. And seriously, as long as the bugs aren't showstoppers I can understand that they try to get everything into ONE big update instead of using resources and lots of small ones.

It might just be me but I really feel like these people are really committed to their users as a opposed to MOST developers. At least we have real people here talking to us when we write something, what other company does that?

With all that being said, one thing I can hardly wait for is online multiplayer which is something I think TOO MANY game developers overlook. Most of my friends have children of their own and we don't live close to each other anymore(at least not the ones with ps3s) so online multiplayer is right down my ally Smile It will also greatly increase the replayability of games imho.

@Juggalo: Practice really really helps, when I first started reading here I could hardly get silver on normal, just trying to "aim" with precision without really trying to complete the game but more for practice really helped. I need to practice a wee bit more though before I can go platinum, I keep having problems with the one to the far right on the roof, I keep hitting that damn traintrack thing or going over Smile

@HatchetMan: Idol Minds staff (with the exception of Jeff Litchford) doesn’t post here. The axiom about the customer is always right isn’t true. We’ve all been customers and I can assure you I am not always right. I am not exactly sure what you are expecting but if you are expecting people to just respond with a chorus of: You’re right’s when that isn’t the case then you’re clearly at the wrong URL. Questions asked will be questions addressed. But you have to give respect to earn respect. No one here gets treated unfairly. At least not by the staffers or myself.

Just because you don’t like something in the game Hatchet Man doesn’t mean that it’s instantly going to be altered. There are bugs that take precedent over the Hydrant slowdown and those are the ones that get addressed. You don’t have to agree with the development initiative or me. You are free to do that. I have said before and I will say again when time permits we will address any issues that we feel need to be elevated. I don’t expect you to agree with me on everything. That’s your choice. I can’t tell you what games to play or what TV shows to watch or what underwear to buy. Your question has been asked and answered. The answer is again: When all other tasks that impact the product of a higher category are addressed we will examine this. But there is no guarantee we will speed this effect up. Odds are if anything the water will be removed.

I happen to disagree with your content assertion and I have said this time and time again. What we have is matter of opinion so you will have your opinion and we will have ours. PAIN shipped with six modes of play. Each mode of play has different levels of difficulty, layout, and at times rule set modifications. There is significant difference between Bowling and Mime Toss Fun with Explosives and HORSE. I am sorry if you don’t agree, but your assertions otherwise will always be debatable. The fact that there is one staging ground for these modes might strike you as unfair and you are free to have that opinion as well. You paid more for PAC MAN, Missile Command, Space Invaders nearly 20 years ago and those had one staging area. I can name quite a few modern games that have one staging area as well. If you feel like you get more value from another product I can’t really help you there. PAIN is what it is. I happen to think it is ten dollars well spent. PAIN is roughly the price of a movie ticket and I have gotten many more hours of entertainment from PAIN than any movie. I would welcome your honest comparisons about the amount of Value PAIN is to any other next gen title.

@The Probe: Is there some assumption that we are giddy because it takes a while to develop PAIN environments? I can assure that if we could make them faster we would. PAIN started off as an experiment to see if people would enjoy this type of gameplay. Now that we know you do it provides us more opportunities to go bigger and better. We are not keeping PAIN from anyone because it’s sexy to do so. The reason it is taking a while is because we weren’t content to just give you more of the same. The Amusement Park represents not just a new area but new functionality and new gameplay modes. The amount of content that we are working on is either on par or MORE than we did for the Original PAIN release. We are also doing it in roughly half the time. When we release I am sure it will be apparent to everyone why it took this amount of time to complete. The good news is that we won’t have this long a break between future content releases. When you make something new there is always that period where you hold your breath and hope people like what you do. When you are reasonably sure they do it makes it easy to continue. PAIN didn’t always have the support it has now. I think it’s important to remember that people like what we have done and the big problem is people wanted MORE of it. So instead of just going the easy route we went bigger and better. It will pay off it just takes time.

Making a level editor is not simple at all. It is something we talked about doing but it wouldn’t be practical at this point. It would take us longer to make an editor than it does making an area. The only editor we will make for this iteration of PAIN is a replay editor. It will be awesome once we release it.

@Luke: Trust me when I said we tried to push a lot of those character designs through. We got vetoed BIG TIME! It was fun while it lasted. There are so many public figures I wanted to put in that launcher YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

@No1rebal: There will be no PSP PAIN. A Mall is actually on the shortlist of environments. Can’t tell you if we will make it though. Not yet.

@Pee_Wee: Dude are you commando right now? I hope you aren’t wearing jogging pants.

@KnizzleHizzle: I’ll be honest with you and tell you that online multiplayer is the one option that is taking the most effort to accomplish. The ironic part about that option is that it’s the one everyone yelled the most about when we released. So I think it’s both funny and fitting that the option most people demanded we put in PAIN in the option that takes the most time to code and test (which in turn delays completion) see how I am in a no win scenario? Online Multiplayer is the option that will take PAIN to another level and everyone was right to demand it. We’re working on it… we’re almost done.

@ Travis,
Replay editor sounds interesting. It will be cool to try out.

Posted on 05.09.08 13:28 PM by StalkingSilence

@no1rebal
Here's my techniques for FWE. I have a score of 200.
I launch and hit the explosive above the Hotel sign. On the rebound I ouch to try to hit the explosive in the billboard sign. I restart if I don't get that explosive on the billboard sign. From there I try to work to hit as many propane tanks as possible in one launch.
It's seems the more debris you have flying the better. Listen for explosions and don't start a second launch until everything is quiet. Use the overhead view to watch the explosions. The key seems to be getting a lot going on a single run. As your number of exploded boxes increases without relaunching the additional time and more boxes increase in frequecy. What you are really looking for is some good chain reactions to happen where new falling boxes cause explosions and debris without you need to launch. My second launch is usualy for the propane tank to the right of the finger billboard in the back. Then aiming for another propane tank on the rebound. A third launch is usually the propane tank to the left of the cerial bowl.
Ooching is real important. I use either the ninja or the pirate because they ooch better distances.
Hope some of this helps.
Can't say it's all the best techniques but it worked for me.

@ Travis, and all my pahtna's
Hey man, greeting's from the bedroom. UPDATE: My back is the same. Can't sit for long, hence why my posts haven't been the usual lenth. (I know you and other's miss em that way.) Ice packs are my new best friend as I have em on pretty much 24-7. The 6 inch incision is healed, but the swelling around it, and down across my lower back is a huge PAIN in the ass. The puffiness is ridiculous all over and in different spots. You can say I have female size A-Cup swelling, lol. Now onto the gaming.
I played the other night for a good hour, but had to stop because the shaking of the controller actually cause more PAIN to me. I do hope soon enough I can start getting back to my normal 6-7 hours of PAIN play. Right now ECHOCHROME and GTA 4 are taking A LOT of my time up. Echo is AWESOME, but a PAIN in the ass.. and GTA 4.. just awesome. (The multiplayer mode is killer.. but sometimes the Team Deathmatch can be annoying because it''s hard to kill someone on another team when I'm using a single shot pistol, when i'm getting blown a 100 ft in the air when I get hit with a RPG...But teaming up with others, when I get in, or get in their car's is awesome, especially with the Eye Toy Mic.)

@ Travis,
T.. I have read a bunch of the recent comments and while some I agree with, haven't ALL of them been said, posted, and replied too over the past 6 months? It would be sweet if you had a program that searched thru them all, and categorized them, into FAQ's. Then some of these moron's would read them and be like. Ok cool, someone has asked this, or addressed that, and they responded too it. Maybe in the future you can add io a drop down list when we go to post something? Then it can be categortized into Complaints..Glitches...Content..Random Observations, Idea's etc.
But I know, as well as yourself, and the other "PAIN Developers" like myself.. Juggs.. etc.. and loyalists from the get-go, your gonna be asked the same shit all the time. And for myself,I'm going to be saying for the umpteenth time: (This is copy n pasted from a few previous posts I have made) : AHEM
---Travis,
As I have said in previous messages, it is awesome and truly special to know that the creators of the game, are ACTUALLY listening to the fans. I am a PAIN lover, and a hater, but moreso the lover.
I fully admit it and damn proud to. I was one of the 1st ones to bitch about the lack of content etc. and I posted my reasons why. Since that time in November, you have constantly updated us, almost daily on your progress of creating, and fixing the new levels for us, any adjustments, tweaks etc.. You have added new characters, and added now Fun w/ explosives as a new game mode.
You are listening too us, and that is vital for any company. But the thing is, YOU ACTUALLY LISTEN AND GET BACK TO US ON OUR COMMENTS, AND MAKE IMPROVEMENTS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM. I wish other companies would do the same. THANK YOU for having the decency, sound mind, and, well, BALLS to ask us what should be made better etc., THEN taking that info to your team, breaking it down, and making it happen. And as you have said.. we are working on the levels, getting the kinks out, and making SURE it is right BEFORE we release it.
KEEP IT UP
"Haskell420". Posted on 03.11.08 01:22 AM

So that message continues today and for "here to eternity". Play the game, enjoy what you have, have fun with it, and be patient for crying out loud. You and the game AND your PS3 are NOT GOING ANYWHERE! We all want more levels and content NOW or last month. BUT I'd rather know that they are working in it, and trying to make the best game possible for us, and taking the time to make sure it is the best game possible.
And no matter what anyone says, they are not going to release anything that is not up to snuff, or just release it just to have some jerkoff's say, "Finally".. then 2 hours later, come on here, and rip all of the developer's a new a-hole for giving us a incomplete, error filled game that has glitches, jumpy frame rates, or god forbid their is a glitch hitting the Merry Go Round.
From here to Eternity,
Haskell420

@Travis I think you took my comments the wrong way. I'm in no real hurry for the new stages as me and my mates play HORSE all the time and still laugh as much now as when I first got Pain. I was just putting forward an idea which I thought would be fun. I've got no knowledge of the videogame making business and am not under the assumption that you are keeping things back just because you can. I've re-read my post and can't see where you're getting the feeling that I'm making a sly complaint. If that is the way that it came across to you then I'm sorry but you've definately got the wrong end of the stick...or did I read your comments wrongly lol.

@ Travis,
And to answer your question on why I would make a great PAIN character?
I'm a masochist at heart Smile and a sadist lol..kidding .. kind of..lol
I'd be the best character as well. Completely unassuming. Who would think that the thin red headed character with glasses, would be the baddest ass in the game. Thin, funny psycho with red hair n glasses, decent looking,
1st version of me, the funny guy doing a LOT of damage flying around, and with great funny lines making you laugh your ass off in the air, and after I land.
*The 2nd version..Oh the 2nd version is "the sick, twisted, evil guy who loves death destruction and misery, and still the baddest ass doing the most damage in the game but also MOCKING the hell out of you!
All my lines would be threatening too you, or mocking you the player.. Hit the billboard, ooch arounf, get a decent score and I pop out with.."Oh, that's ALL you got".. That's ALL the points you could get..pffft.. gimme a break" NEXT......When you get low points, then I'd rip ya for that as well, "Man, you stink, let someone else play" etc." And if you did really good.. then my lines would go "YEAH BABY, NOW THAT'S PAIN".."Oh Hell yeah..feel my PAIN."..."Damn that was good, but NOT good enough.. COME ON!!".. I see it already..
Sounds good to me of course...LOL. And you'll only have to pay me or .25 or .50 cents per player. (Is that negotiatiable?)

I would be a awesome PAIN character! And besides , The more PAIN the better amd I'm a glutton for punishment. Smile

@Travis
Wow...impressive post. Best part was,
"You paid more for PAC MAN, Missile Command, Space Invaders nearly 20 years ago and those had one staging area."
Now that's a devestating statement. The movie ticket one was a great point too. I say add to that tickets to a ball game which could cost far more than $10, your team could loose, and the beer could leave you broke.

BUT....
You stated "So instead of just going the easy route we went bigger and better. It will pay off it just takes time."

Isn't it true that the amusement park is actually SMALLER than downtown?

You made a raw statement, gotta bust your chops.

Posted on 05.09.08 16:59 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

@Haskell: Yeah I agree. The FAQ is needed a scrub. I am planning a lot of things for the next launch. A real big FAQ update is a GREAT idea. The content one is one that never dies. I understand people want more. Out of all the problems to have this is the one to have. I would honestly like to ship things sooner but I also don’t want to ship a P.O.S. either. The Park is getting a point where I can say I am starting to love it more than Downtown. The next area after the Park will be even better. It’s because we are learning on the job. No one knew how to make PAIN levels until now. So even thought he environments trickle out each one will be the beneficiary of more input and our increasing expertise. People like Juggs, You, Mortal are examples of mutants we expected but didn’t expect to be so good.

So even though most people aren’t as gamma radiated as you guys we have to make sure you guys are taken care of too. Hence the Plat Club.

Hope your back feels better. Nothing is right when your back hurts. Hey we can make a character with back problems. You might think that was mean. Scurv already screams about his back when he lands.

@The Probe: Nope dude I am not sore at all. I hope I didn’t come off that way. If I did I didn’t mean to. Sometimes it’s hard to judge tone in writing unless you know the person. Even then it’s sorta difficult. I was merely explaining where we are in the thick of things. No harm done. It’s going to be better when all your pals don’t have to play around the same TV but you can play PAIN remotely.

This has probably been asked before & if so, I apologise. But you mentioned a *replay editor* & it sounds interesting, any chance you can give any more details? like what it specifically does?

Posted on 05.09.08 18:33 PM by Luke

first of all, i think the cameras has a lot of problems, we can get our character out of sight so easy, the new zombys sound nice too, bit first the bugs...

other busty girl with a chainsaw and leather costume would be great.. even more chars better, everyone buy the one they like.

Travis, it was just a way to tell you that I want PAIN boxers, because mine are becoming...holed?

@pee_wee
I get the holes too. My girl tells me it's because I adjust and scratch too much. It sounds plausable to me.

@Travis,
Mean? Hell no! By far and away, that was not mean. And don't ever worry about "hurting my feelings", and/or worry about mocking me, ripping me etc..
Hey, I did say I am a glutton for punishment,a semi masochist, sadist and love death, destruction and misery didn't I, lol.
I've had my Dad's car stop on my foot/heel when I got out of the car too soon when I was 9 or 10 and the parents had a debate back n forth saying, "Just pull forward".. No, go in reverse" for 15 minutes before I got it out. 2 weeks after 5th grade got out, I had a scorching thermos full of hot coffee bust open and douse my right ankle and left(my legs were crossed) when I was in the back of our friends station wagon going to the beach. I did a Superfly Snuka over the back seat,pulled off my sock, ran around someone's lawn, before finally sitting in the car and having myself, along with a few friends and their Mom's, watching my skin peel away layer after layer. Blisters bigger then a A and B cup on top of one another for over a week, before I spent the next 2+ months in the hospital getting a skin grafting done because I ended up for some sweet, gory looking, and beyond painful 2nd, and mainly 3rd degree burns. And then being in a wheelchair for over 8 months.(And I still got the pics Mom took)
And appreciate the thoughts on my back.. this friggan sucks, but as usual, I deal with it, head held high, my c#$% in my hand, and my controller by my side ..LOL Bahahaha..
And as far as being a so called mutant? Yeah, you could definately say that. I've always been. and had an extremely creative mind. I've always wanted to use it and sometimes certain jobs would let me. But here, at least I can use it somewhat for my own, but everyone's benefit!
Imagine what I could do if I was actually paid..Mmmmmmmmm

Hello everybody!

I haven't posted in awhile, got a little sucked in GTA4... But I'm slowly returning back to "life" now.
Usually, I spend my time criticizing. Just yesterday I was flaming the GTA forumsTong
But today I decided to be different. I will backup Travis on something that I believe is completely true (at least for me): Measuring play hours versus money spent, I don't think there is a game out there worth more than Pain!

@Travis: I hope you guys make Pain the best game ever! And just a little, I hope you make it sooner rather than laterTong

I've also seen that some maniac has reached almost a 1000 crates in FWE (and that was a week ago)! Way to go! Can't wait to play with you people onlineLaughing

Talk to you soon!

Posted on 05.10.08 01:46 AM by The_World

@Travis: I have patience, no worries Smile

And if patience weren't enough I have GTA4 Smile

@HatchetMan: Omg yes, a Rabbi, that would be to cool for school! I'm thinking a Mel Brooksy kinda rabbi. "OY VEY!"

@Juggalo: I'll try that, thanks Smile Mime toss is by far my favorite single player game mode, I think it might be the french voice Tong

Posted on 05.10.08 02:06 AM by KnizzleHizzle

@Pee_wee
Essentially what I'm saying is I get holes in my boxers too, mine are from scratching my nuts all the time. I'm always itchin my balls like I got some kinda fleas. Maybe you are the same. That's why I put in my 2 cents.

First off, let me apoligize for posting this here. But I don't see a forum for such a post and am a little frustrated since I can't find an answer to my problem.

I was wondering if the Update would fix the problem that I am having loading the "Fun With Explosives" level?

I am excited about the new content, but the game isn't as much fun to play knowing that its broken on my machine for some reason. I've tried deleting it and re-installing it several ways and that one level never loads.

Anyone help ???

Posted on 05.10.08 11:22 AM by Steve

u need to download it for free from the store

Posted on 05.10.08 21:40 PM by sakura1989

@MutilatRJuggalo
OK lol

Posted on 05.10.08 22:29 PM by Pee_Wee

Thanks Sakura1989.

I did download it and install it from the PS3 Store. And downloaded it / installed it a 2nd, 3rd and 4th time after it didnt work to try to get it to work, but gave up on that.

The rest of the game works fine, only the "Fun With Explosives" level won't load.

Posted on 05.11.08 04:18 AM by Steve

@Knizzle that's ironic, because when I was thinking about the Rabbi, I was thinking Mel Brook's version also, lol.

@Travis so how about the Rabbi? it's got a couple of votes ^^

Posted on 05.11.08 06:08 AM by Hatchet Man Studios

Also, some other character ideas, categorized no less:

Religious:
Rabbi - (already suggested)

The Pope - (with quotes like "I'm-a da pope-a" and the funny hat this would work wonders)

Budda statue - (yes, just a statue of Budda, but this plays on a whole different type of funny)

JC (think "Buddy Christ" from Dogma)

Halloween:
Midget Witch - (on a Swiffer, of course)

Midget Vampire - (poses could be holding out cape like a flying squirrel or stereotypical vampire holding arm in front of face to cover fangs)

Egg - (nothing special, just pelting passers by and cars with eggs, then watching the havoc unfold)

Miscellaneous:
Nerd - (could have sayings like "calculating the trajectory of my initial rise and decent" or when he smashes into something, he could say "I'm glad I have my pocket protector"Wink

Quadriplegic - (this one speaks for itself on the "shouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole humor", but it's still a funny idea. he could grab with his mouth, since he doesn't have working hands. Also the chair would add an extra element of destruction as ideally he would be able to leave the chair after a smash)

Posted on 05.11.08 06:44 AM by Hatchet Man Studios

@Steve- The only time I've downloaded content not work is when I've downloaded add-on content from the Europe store for a game I purchased from the US (PSN or actuall game)or the other way round. Do you have both accounts? If so, download the FWE add-on from the store you purchased pain. Hope that helps you.

Posted on 05.11.08 11:45 AM by mortal_sinner

@Mortal
That's exactly what I was thinking could be the problem.
How ya been buddy? How's the wife and kid?

@Anyone wit GTA4
Any disapointed in GTA4?
Now it's a good game don't get me wrong, but don't it feel like it has less than San Andreas to anyone else?
If I see someone using their blinker, I WANNA USE MINE TOO!! But I can't.
I also havn't found any way to hook up trailers to anything. THAT IS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME. My favorite part of San Andreas was hooking up the tractors to each other. I had 64 all linked up once. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Posted on 05.11.08 13:27 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

PLUS YOU CAN'T OPERATE FORKS ON A FORKLIFT. THAT TOO WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THE GAME.

I would like to get the update runneing soon i really need to hear my musix while i play pain....

@mortal_sinner

Thanks for the help, but I don't have an American and Euro accounts. I only have an American one. So I'm sure that all the downloads and addon's that I got were correct. Sure wish I knew what was going on. Its frustrating not to be able to play "Fun With Explosives" in single mode. Wish that my email that I sent was answered as to what might be going on.

Thanks anyways.

@Mikey
The president and Einstein are nice, but what the devil is a schizophrenic?! A monstor? (or possiblly monster)
mr. Blobby. Who the hell is Blobby?
And the chicken. I took about an hour to think about that a few days ago. I think the feathers should come off every time he hits a surface until he is butt naked (little black line blocking the, uuhhhh, whatever chickens have). Monkey, obviously almost everyone wants to play the monkey. And from typing this, i just hatched an idea (pun intended)! An online game where a monkies are running around (other players) and one person launches himself at them, and the first one hit has to launch himself. Some areas would have to be locked, but still. And the person with the least amount of times hit, wins!!!

Posted on 05.11.08 21:58 PM by blargem

@Jugallo: The blinking thing really got to me too, I mean it irritated every time I actually tried to drive NICELY. And I loved used the forklifts in Total Overdose. But hey, other than that the game freaking HUGE!

Posted on 05.11.08 22:15 PM by KnizzleHizzle

Omg. the newest thing in pain is the freaking cheerleaders... WE NEED MORE FREAKING CONTENT

how bout this for a new pain level a hardware warehouse with lawn mowers chainsaws and cement mixers also wood and Scaffolding and a few more things like grinders saws drills hammers electrical appliances for a shocking good time and wheelbarrows shover's toilet seats steel pipes and duct tape hard hats fork lifts and lots lots more to cause PAIN hope yous like my idea.

@snake412 - HA!! That was one of the idea's put up back in Jan. or Feb. Everybody thought it would be fun...

Posted on 05.12.08 14:41 PM by TonyB

well i think they should make it into a level

Posted on 05.12.08 17:07 PM by brad_snake412

GTA4 is a horrible game (for GTA standards, that is) that offers all the boredom of real life (taxi driving, deleting of spam mail, watching crappy performances and lousy tv shows), and in contrast there is just nothing fun in there (the missions are ALL about KILLING and are also extremely annoying while at it)!
All in all, this is the greatest disappointment for me after Assassins' Creed!

Posted on 05.12.08 18:37 PM by The_World

@The_World
I gotta agree with you fully on that. It's fun, but most of the freedoms they gave you in the last game were taken away in this one. For some reason that seems to be standard practice for a lot of companies these days. (NOT THE PAIN CREW)
They upgrade the graphics and take away gameplay. Almost all the EA Sports games have done this, as well as MLB The Show. I'm getting pretty fed up.

Posted on 05.12.08 23:46 PM by MutilatRJuggalo

Well, I love GTA IV. To me, its the best game ever, especially with the physics there. Also I think it has a great story and awesome character. Thats just my opinion

Posted on 05.12.08 23:53 PM by KingDragunov

Theossie, welcome to a whole new world of PAIN. Dualshock makes the game WAAAYYY more interesting. In fact, I'm willing to say that Dualshock makes pretty much everything more interesting. That's why I keep one on the nightstand and one in the bathroom. ....uh-oh, I've said too much......

Posted on 05.13.08 00:49 AM by Jason Coker

@Coker - You said my ideas get better & better! Genius!

Posted on 05.13.08 02:45 AM by mortal_sinner

First off, once again I am excited that you guys take what we say and use it to decide what to do next. It's a great thing, indeed. And everyone here should know how cool this is.

I was one of those nay-saying the zombies. At least, the first drafts. I didn't feel they mae sense.

But I have to admit, now, that this second run is a TON better. Gives the zombies more personality, more of a point.

As to "Privates Stinky" I think much can be done. "Chaaaaaarge" could be one phrase. ANother could be "hold, Hold, HOLD.....", like you hear in many war movies. Would be cool to hear a "ready aim FIRE" before launch but I know that may be hard to time right. As to poses, ther must be one in "charge mode" with a sword drawn, leading him through the air.

Also, before I forget, these zobies have to lose limbs. They are decayed bodies, so, parts have to come off on impact. Nothing gross, just funny.

As to "Dead Baron", he must say, "Das ist nicht gut." Or have a plane sound effect, like its diving in a dog fight, while he says, "You must go down you captialist dog!" Or some shit like that. And have him in a pose with his arms out to each side like he's posing as a plane.

That's all that came into my head when I saw the images. Hope this helps!!!!!

Thanks to MutilatRJuggalo & mortal_sinner for clarifying the glitch I mentioned. Another bug is in FWE multiplayer painful. When you hit the bomb box stuck in the bilboard on your right the scafold and iron next to it all falls except for the piece of iron attached to the crane and one peice under it remains floating mid-air. I am only mentioning it because I am still just 2 away from that damn 60 trophy and any extra debry would help. It is my last trophy and is driving me nuts.

Posted on 05.13.08 04:27 AM by OneButton

@Travis, Coke:
I've fallen through the ground with Ice Tee, I've got pics saved on a phone so You can see where it happened and what led to it. I had the new 2.35 patch when I did it, so I don't know if that was involved. Pretty need, you can see out of the buildings, and that off white canvas the game is on was a bit surprising ot me, I thought it would be white.
Let me know where to send it, you can probably look up my real email with PSN and contact me that way so you don't post any kind of important email address.

Posted on 05.13.08 04:43 AM by srart

Sorry to post here again, but this is directed at the few Developers that post here.

First let me say, that I think its very admirable of the people who make the game to post here to keep updated. I applaud that, however I was wondering why is there a place for me to send in an "email" on this site, if no one ever responds? I can understand that you can't sit around and correspond to anyone who writes to you, but if a paying customer writes you a email to inform you about a problem they are having with the game, then the company can take the time to atleast send either a "form" letter or a two line email stating that they are either unaware or aware of certain problems and are already working on it.

Anything at all.

But being ignored feels like you don't give a crap, and so even though I think the game is fun, I won't risk spending anymore money on "add-ons", when there is a chance they wont work for me. I doubt you care about my money, but I doubt that I'm the "only" person who has had trouble with parts of the game. Atleast this will provide the fanboys with flame fodder.

I agree with you on that Coke... Big difference.

Posted on 05.13.08 13:33 PM by Theossie

Here's some Zombie Quotes you may like

"Brains... No... good..." When the character runs out of Ooch!

"The Sout Will Rise Again!" for the Civil War guys launch - I purposely left the "H" out of south.

"Houston... We have a problem." For the Pilot

"My Kidney Sacks seem to have come undone." For the Civil War Guy.

"If I wasn't dead, this would probably hurt right now."

"Blast Off!" The Pilot Zombie

"I pledge allegiance to the... AHHHH" for the Civil war guy before he smacks into a building.

"CHARGE!" Civil War Guy

I dunno, thought these were good maybe not, hope their helpful anyways.

Posted on 05.18.08 07:28 AM by spence88

regarding the zombies i think the cival war guy is pretty good but i realy liked the zombie with the chainsaw in the head. the cival war guy needs to look a little more zombie like and the zombie with chainsaw needs to look a little less deformed. i know you are not gonna use zombie with chainsaw in his head but i think hes cool.
some suggestions for moves. for the cival war guy he could take off his head and put it uder his arm. also he could make a salute but use a loser sign like in Team Fortress 2. mybe he could also take a sothern flag out of his hole.... the one in his stomach. for the zombie with chainsaw in his head he could take out the chainsaw and turn it on.(and it can fall out like some other characters items)also he could take off one of his arms and wave it like his saying hello, realy this can be used for both the same goes for taking the head off.
well i hope u use one of my suggestions bye!!

Posted on 05.19.08 11:38 AM by kewl_guy

Both zombies are really cool...
But I think it would be a good idea with a FAT PAIN character.
A fat zombie could be round as a ball and bounce higher than the other PAIN characters.
Wouldn't it be fun to see a fat zombie bouncing down the street?

Here are some ideas to Privates Stinky and the Dead Baren:
You said that falling limbs would be a problem, I think it would be good with eyes plopping out, teeths,ears and fingers falling off. these things don't change the gameplay but are still fun.
I hope this helps you guys.
(sorry for my bad spelling, im not so good at english
