It’s nearly the end of the year and some of us are thinking about big dinners and presents (and food comas). Although those are certainly part of my plans in the VERY near future I am also thinking about the upcoming year and all the PAIN related developments we have. This post is about those plans (ours and hopefully yours). I believe the fact that we are creating a PAIN Amusement Park is the worst kept PAIN secret ever.
Before we released PAIN we made a list of the game skills that PAIN would require you to excel in if you wanted to be awesome. This is REALLY important going forward because any area we create after Downtown had to complement that skill set. My short list was:
PAIN Skills: Launching, Drifting, Grabbing, Ooching, Posing, and Blocking.
This gets a little more complicated when you think of combining said skills:
Posing (to dodge obstacles)
Ooching (at the same time you’re blowing up)
Drifting (to get into hard to reach areas)
Grabbing (after you have done any of the above)
This is going somewhere trust me….
So when we decided that the next area would be an Amusement Park it was obvious that we had to make sure all the rides, obstacles, characters, and events would enable you to port all those skills from Downtown to a new area. I have to admit I had a fear that people wouldn’t learn how to play PAIN as well as all of us here.
After looking at the PAIN leaderboard I am convinced that I should never underestimate our gaming public. I think it’s safe to assume you all have a sick amount of skill. Perhaps I should add humble pie to my list of things to eat this holiday season?
Where was I? Oh yeah… More stuff… Amusement Parks…
I really enjoy the flow of Downtown. Downtown areas tend to be very organized. To change the nature and flow of the next Theme we would have to make the action more random. Amusement parks are filled with machines that if damaged could be very unsafe. VERY UNSAFE
Get where I’m going?
Once this Theme is more complete I will make sure I release a shot of it so you can see it. I think Downtown is a great area, but when you see the Amusement Park I am sure you will agree that the PAIN Team might have some real “issues.” PAIN poster “Andrew” commented on the fact that he would like to see my main man Brock-Lee in action…
Merry Christmas Andrew
Don’t get caught by Brock-Lee’s Feets of Fury! If you do make sure you grab hold that’s gotta be worth a grip of points. More on the Amusement Park on a later posting.
OH YEAH! HELP WANTED!
After the holidays Coke and I head back over to Idol Minds to discuss the Themes post the Amusement park. If you PAIN players have any ideas now is the time to speak up! Respond to this post and please make ‘em good. If you’re ideas are wack I am going to assume you don’t believe in Santa Claus. Especially ones that burp when you launch them. I’ll be checking the responses to this posting all the time. PLEASE don’t let me down. I will print them out when we have our meetings so I don’t forget anything.
Also before I go….
Jeff Litchford (Producer/Designer) at Idol Minds is going to post the last PAIN update of the year (next week). He’s gonna tell you what to expect soon. If you don’t hear from me shortly it’s because I LOVE ham. ZzzzzZzzzZ * snort *
