It’s nearly the end of the year and some of us are thinking about big dinners and presents (and food comas). Although those are certainly part of my plans in the VERY near future I am also thinking about the upcoming year and all the PAIN related developments we have. This post is about those plans (ours and hopefully yours). I believe the fact that we are creating a PAIN Amusement Park is the worst kept PAIN secret ever.

Before we released PAIN we made a list of the game skills that PAIN would require you to excel in if you wanted to be awesome. This is REALLY important going forward because any area we create after Downtown had to complement that skill set. My short list was:

PAIN Skills: Launching, Drifting, Grabbing, Ooching, Posing, and Blocking.

This gets a little more complicated when you think of combining said skills:

Posing (to dodge obstacles)

Ooching (at the same time you’re blowing up)

Drifting (to get into hard to reach areas)

Grabbing (after you have done any of the above)

This is going somewhere trust me….

So when we decided that the next area would be an Amusement Park it was obvious that we had to make sure all the rides, obstacles, characters, and events would enable you to port all those skills from Downtown to a new area. I have to admit I had a fear that people wouldn’t learn how to play PAIN as well as all of us here.

After looking at the PAIN leaderboard I am convinced that I should never underestimate our gaming public. I think it’s safe to assume you all have a sick amount of skill. Perhaps I should add humble pie to my list of things to eat this holiday season?

Where was I? Oh yeah… More stuff… Amusement Parks…

I really enjoy the flow of Downtown. Downtown areas tend to be very organized. To change the nature and flow of the next Theme we would have to make the action more random. Amusement parks are filled with machines that if damaged could be very unsafe.  VERY UNSAFE

Get where I’m going?

Once this Theme is more complete I will make sure I release a shot of it so you can see it. I think Downtown is a great area, but when you see the Amusement Park I am sure you will agree that the PAIN Team might have some real “issues.” PAIN poster “Andrew” commented on the fact that he would like to see my main man Brock-Lee in action…

Merry Christmas Andrew

Don’t get caught by Brock-Lee’s Feets of Fury! If you do make sure you grab hold that’s gotta be worth a grip of points. More on the Amusement Park on a later posting.

OH YEAH! HELP WANTED!

After the holidays Coke and I head back over to Idol Minds to discuss the Themes post the Amusement park. If you PAIN players have any ideas now is the time to speak up! Respond to this post and please make ‘em good. If you’re ideas are wack I am going to assume you don’t believe in Santa Claus. Especially ones that burp when you launch them. I’ll be checking the responses to this posting all the time. PLEASE don’t let me down. I will print them out when we have our meetings so I don’t forget anything.

Also before I go….

Jeff Litchford (Producer/Designer) at Idol Minds is going to post the last PAIN update of the year (next week). He’s gonna tell you what to expect soon. If you don’t hear from me shortly it’s because I LOVE ham. ZzzzzZzzzZ  * snort *

well i think that lots of us was hoping to get next thame this year, coz it kinda soundet like that from previous posts.... yea,and was hoping to know something more about EU release... and what will happen to leaderboard? merry Xmas guys and a Happy New Year...

Cool. I've got an idea for you.

Jungle! With animals!! Now I think that would be kinda unique, slinging the guy over the jungle and catching a monkey near a tree, and then land on top of a lion or something like that.

Keep it in mind.

On another note, tell Mark I've got the interview up (can't be bothered to send an email now, it's 3 a.m.).

http://psnow.es/destacados/entrevista-mark-lyons/

Now I can't say I've played Pain, because it hasn't been released in Spain yet, but I can assure it's the first thing I'm buying as soon as it's up. Can't wait to get my hands on it (hurry up, Sony!).

Anyway, congrats to all the team for the awesome work. Just thinking about the amusement park just makes me chuckle.

Hope you guys have a nice holiday and a happy new year!

Regards from the other side if the world. ^_^

This is sad excuse for an update. Two weeks have gone by and now the new theme isn't even finished? This game is awesome at first but not anymore. After doing everything in downtown, there just isn't anything left to do. Muiltiplaying is all High Velocity Bowling now. Guys, wanna keep your fans? Get us the new theme ASAP. This year.................

Posted on 12.07.07 12:05 PM by adam_thewarrior

Adam, sorry to dissapoint you but themes take quite a bit of time to create and test. If you want something that is quality it takes time. I'm glad you think our first Theme is awesome. If you want the next one to be even better you need to give the PAIN team some time to work. We have to examine what went right with this theme and improve on it for the next Theme.

Just because there aren't new themes every month doesn't mean there aren't more things to do in PAIN. Don't miss next weeks update. Hopefully that will make you feel a little better.

I'm glad you are enjoying High Velocity Bowling. I will go annoy PJ for stealing my gamers. I just moved offices near him.

@Peter: The leaderboard issues will be addressed. You're just going to have to trust me on this one.

aaa come on pale, why its so big secret to tell reasons why this game dont comes out in EU... not that i care much, and dont thinks its your fault,i bet its sonys, but no one wants to say why so late, next years feb,if we lucky.... and yes, about ideas,if u will use lets say one of mine,do i will get something, dont know what, but lets say pen or t-shirt whit pain logo or something?

Posted on 12.07.07 12:47 PM by Peter

Hey! Quit stuffing your faces with pie and swimming around in our money Scrooge McDuck style! Give us some online play! It's very simple. record what I do and then send a simple recording to my friend (doesn't need to be realtime) At least let us send recordings. Laughing Also... most of the people who like this game probably have ADHD, so how about a way to skip the intro logos (at least after you beat the tutorial... CMON) For the theme park: giant water fountains that you can fall into that launch you into the air (also a mini water park section to slide down) Apple Turn over to be flung out of, Giant boat swing ride, Hanging coaster to grab onto and ride! woohoo. Maybe a wooden coaster too. Gotta have more than one of those coaster things. Seriously tho? Online play... seriously. You guys, seriously! Okay. Thanks for being so awesome and listening to everone.

Posted on 12.07.07 13:02 PM by Masuyo

I have an idea... Add weapons to the game... A slingshot that has 3 shots, 2 bricks, and 1 bomb . This way you can shoot at clowns, waiters, and explosion boxes. You should only be able to use one of the choices per launch. During aim mode the game should slow down like in the matrix and you should be able to create a ton of add on games with this new functionality... especially in the amusement park.

Posted on 12.07.07 13:04 PM by ilya

The ability to save replays would be awesome!

Theme park idea: Player can launch and grab onto a roller coaster, complete with twists and loops. With the camera close behind, that'd be a cool experience. Plus, if the player lets go of the coaster at certain points of the track (big dips, twists, loops etc.)it'll launch the character to other areas.

Posted on 12.07.07 13:35 PM by SandSkorpion

I just want more content for one of the best games of 2007. I am sorry if I sound pissy. Just don't tell us very soon if it won't be until after the first of the year. Don't worry though, when updates start coming H.V. Bowling will be easily forgotten!

Posted on 12.07.07 13:41 PM by adam_thewarrior

Make multi player able to use different modals for each player(i.e let you pick, even only 2 would work for four player).

A multiplayer game where the first person goes, and the second person tries to get as good or better a score after the first person has don damage (thereby getting rid of things the first can do)

Posted on 12.07.07 13:42 PM by srart

p.s. Merry Christmas!

Posted on 12.07.07 13:44 PM by adam_thewarrior

Well, PAIN is about pain so why not create a theme related to pain? The Smashinator, Killer Cruncher. You can create the rides to look like something very painful. Leg Breaker, etc. I think it would make a very good theme for some chaos.

Posted on 12.07.07 14:07 PM by Steve

what about online play??? I will like the new theme But what about the online multi player? Do u will add it? Merry christmas

Posted on 12.07.07 15:18 PM by markito

hey travis! thanks for the update. you seem to imply that an update will be coming next week - either physical download or blog entry describing it - that will include more patches and maybe some more game play modes within the downtown theme. great! thanks for the info, glad to hear something.

as far as theme ideas:
1) an office - cubicles, water jug, computers, stacks of tps reports, printers, everything you wish you could grab and slam into a wall. but you wouldn't know about these things, you work in the videogame industry
2) shopping mall - lots of people, stores, you could dynamically update to add santa during christmas & change ads for real stores, escalators/glass elevators, funny food court restaurant names
3) race track - my favorite part is grabbing onto cars, so flinging into a monster mash or dirt rally would be sweet to slide around ooching and grabbing onto multiple cars... or just really anything with lots of cars
4) museum (think natural history museum) - could have funny exhibits mocking world history, fun to break down and people would have favorite things they'd want to launch at
5) winter olympics - something like this with different physics properties. ice is always a nice change, sliding never gets old. with an olympic game setup, you could launch all the way to the top of a luge/bobsled course and slide down, or land in the water at the end of ski aerials, or run into nancy boy ice skaters, or play a game of PAIN curling

final suggestion, since you seem to be taking them - maybe add obstacles, something that immediately ends your point streak - something you must avoid. it could be firepit, spike, etc. maybe this is getting too far away from the point. but it would prevent people from wildly ooching out of control

just off the top of my head. sorry for the long post and my apologies for my rude comments on your earlier posts. be good, merry christmas and thank your team

Posted on 12.07.07 15:39 PM by StalkingSilence

does the new update include new characters, new game modes, online play and the ability of saving replays? i would really love the game more then i love it now if you include these things!P.S:could you make the update available before X-mas?
Thanks from now
Merry Christmas and Happy new Year

Posted on 12.07.07 17:09 PM by markito

Hey thanks for the pic. I feel like I'm famous now.Wink Here are some of my ideas.
1) I think stalking has a pretty good idea with the cars, except I would have it at one of those ridiculously complicated highway overpasses with several different levels of bridges. You could deffinately fit some funny billboards in there. You could have construction crews "fixing" the road, grafiti artists and a multi-tiered shanty town at the bottom full of winos and crack addicts. Ther crazy stuff you could have them say is endless. You could also have one of those large sloping drainage canals that a lot of citys have , full of shopping carts and alligators.
2) Call me crazy but I still think having a dog that bites instead of grabbing is a good idea.
3) Another level idea is The Docks. You could have cranes again with comercial and private boats to sink. Of course there are also those shipping containers! Imagine the chaos! With forklifts and transport trucks for the vehicles. There could also be boats out on the water moving at different speeds and different sizes that would be very tough to hit. You could have rich snobs throwing parties on private yachts. And sharks too. Or giant squid.
4) My last idea for a level right now is the inside of a Factory. You could have them making some kind of stupid toy or whatever. Then have it filled with assembly lines and crushing and grinding machines. Steam blasting and electrocuting machines. Molten metal pouring etc. Plenty of chains and gears etc. Massive tangles of pipes and catwalks. I'm just throwing ideas out. But if you've ever been in a real factory, like where they make cars you know what I'm talking about, the places can be huge inside.
5) I think a Tokyo-like city at night would be cool too. With all the neon and bizzare Japanese adds etc. Something like blade runner.
6) I think that you could make the first environment replyable forever with just different challenges. Like : Hit the bowling ball 2 crates the granny and get over 500k etc.
I guess you can tell I'm an insomniac seeing as it's 3am. I'm going to play Pain now.
Thanks again Travis.

Posted on 12.07.07 17:55 PM by Andrew

The new Theme sounds awesome! I love exploding things downtown so a theme park will be really sweet.

I was thinking it would be cool if the slingshot were a bit more powerful and if downtown was expanded. Also, it might be kinda cool if their were multiple firing spots per area; example: I could shoot myself off of the top of the hotel or something. This could be great for online play!

P.S. Some more secret stuff in the game would be awesome!

Posted on 12.07.07 17:59 PM by Brendan

Oh yeah I forgot something.
1) On one of the environments have a jet fly overhead that you can either just smash into or get sucked into it's engine. Or a blimp with those turbines, whichever. Make it so it's hard, but make it so you can crash or pop it. That would be cool.
2) Electrocution. If you've ever been electrocuted you know it's painfull. Plus it's funny.

Posted on 12.07.07 18:06 PM by Andrew

A place filled with angry cats who scratch you to pieces once you get there. (Pieces, not literally. Gotta keep the teen rating) A controlable cat/dog would be fun, and then releasing thye dog your controling into a bunch of cats, or the opposite, either way it's damn good fun. Smile
Besides, promise me that you are filling the amusement park with details like funny posters (see my comment of gratitude on the santa and cookies section for more)
But most important is cool effects, electrocution....mmm.

Posted on 12.08.07 00:52 AM by Tommy*

Actually electrocution sounds pretty cool from a gameplay and VFX standpoint. I bet it could help or hurt your chances of grabbing something. Hmmmmm.

Posted on 12.08.07 01:30 AM by travis williams

multiplayer should let the players pick there own character..

Posted on 12.08.07 01:59 AM by AKskillz

ohh yea.. play as the ninja thats about to get owned by santa when you highlight multiplayer. cant wait for new stuff...

Posted on 12.08.07 02:16 AM by AKskillz

HORSE should not be available online. If you can't make a deal with a friend you could just hit one of the cheerios rings.

Posted on 12.08.07 03:07 AM by Tommy*

The only thing I can think of is to make the downloadable

Posted on 12.08.07 05:13 AM by aIadiesman

excuse me, the downloadable material free to those that paid for the original game.

Posted on 12.08.07 05:14 AM by aIadiesman

Themes?
Pinball... with some sort of multi-player
Waterpark... could be entertaining
A giant kitchen or bathroom...

Posted on 12.08.07 05:15 AM by Robert

oh and maybe add a weather option, like it could be rainy or snowy that would be awesome

Posted on 12.08.07 05:26 AM by aIadiesman

Hopefully the free stuff you mentioned before Travis will be worth it and won't be pointless stuff. It was a joke we had to pay for two characters. Also hopefully the new levels or themes whatever you want to call them will only be 1.99 if we have to pay for them. This game could really benefit from a Las Vegas type place.

You guys will hopefully release some stuff very soon, because I wasted 10 dollars on this incomplete game as far as I'm concerned.

Posted on 12.08.07 05:29 AM by Neon Reaver

Hey Travis I just thought of another one!
A trailer park during a storm. The slippery rain or hail and wind would make an interesting game dynamic. Plus you could make it so you can induce tornadoes by flying up high enough into the clouds. Having your character spinning and smashing intop everything and grabbing trailers in mid air would be awesome! Plus everybody loves trailer trash and redneck banter! "Ma' mother's ma' sister". You could have beat up wrecks parked all over their lawns. Projectile trees etc.
Plus lightning, ELECTROCUTION!! YEAH!! Glad you're listening!
In case you're wondering I'm off work for a while and have too much time.

Posted on 12.08.07 05:39 AM by Andrew

I think what Brendan said (Posted on 12.13.07 23:59 PM by Brendan) about being able to move the slingshot would be a great idea for HORSE. You could make is such that whoever goes first, picks the object to hit, can also pick the position of the slingshot.

And the idea I mentioned earlier about a game with multiple people launching at the same time (or at least whoever goes fist, gets to keep controlling their character while others can go and grab him) would really increase the multiplayer intensity. Everyone would be on the couch cursing on each other and hitting each other for messing up their scores.

Posted on 12.08.07 06:11 AM by Gavin

a museum - crashing through exhibits of dino fossils and cavemen, destroying expensive stoneware or painted canvases like the mona lisa... i've always wanted to mess up a place like that

a zoo - taking out the guy selling balloons/hotdogs, dropping into the gorilla cage or the botanical garden of carnivorous plants, busting Shamu's tank...

Posted on 12.08.07 06:24 AM by Bobechi

We must all focus on what is PAINfull in real life?
Would you be chopped to bits by a chopper?
Would you step on a mousetrap? Hey, there's one right there, a big store filled with mousetraps and other pointy things. We should all watch Tom & Jerry for some inspiration.
;-)

Posted on 12.08.07 06:43 AM by Tommy*

for a theme suggestion:
what about an office, there would be staples all over the place, a laptop...

that was my suggestion

hope you like it

Posted on 12.08.07 08:18 AM by Pee_Wee

Gavin's idea is awesome, with two players, they would combine their scores so theres only one score at the end, and they would get some extra points for hiting, grabing each other and their score would apear on a leaderboard so they could see how weak they are

Posted on 12.08.07 08:22 AM by Pee_Wee

is there gonna be a theme for the XMB cross bar? I just saw that other games did it, should be interesting

Posted on 12.08.07 08:25 AM by Pee_Wee

There is so much that could be done with this game theme wise. The key is to make it look painful and hunorous, while having a lot of objects that can keep your limp carcass moving....

I like the idea about the Jungle, but would step it up a notch and do the Zoo instead. Slam into some tourists! Get charged by a rhino. Poo-flinging, etc.

Perhaps some sort of Army Base / Area 51 type level would be good too. Launch them over the perimitter fence, get caught up in helicopter blades (see above), get missles shot at you, bowl through aliens, etc.)

The idea of the traffic jam / interstate could be improved with a Demolition Derby. Giant car eating robot, lots of explosives, mud, and lots of moving cars.

Or how about a Rally Car event? Lots of moving vehicles, pit crews, and a whole shwack of drunken rednecks in the middle.

Also, how come no character damage? Is Cookie with a black eye and some road rash too much for the mature public? How about a smoldering ash covered uniform at least?

Looking forward to the amusement park. Bring it quick before your fan base decides to move on! Oh yeah, and don't charge me too much.

Posted on 12.08.07 18:33 PM by Deef-fence

What about some weather effects like a tornado in one area or some wind, or rain etc.

Posted on 12.08.07 20:18 PM by I_Love_New_York

Also as stated above if you use weather like wind or a tornado you should have a cow being pulled buy it.

Posted on 12.08.07 20:21 PM by I_Love_New_York

Thanks for the update. I have the following additional suggestions to make.

Features:

A Theater option for viewing saved photos and replays. Obviously, that means players will need to have the ability to take a "photo" during a replay, save that photo to the PS3 hard drive, submit to a Pain fan site, and/or share with friends. Ditto with replay "movies."

Multiplayer:

If online play is an option, please support headset voice chat. What use is it knocking a bowler out of the sky with a well-placed exploding old lady if you can't taunt your opponent about it afterwards?

Also, please allow each player to select a different character. Actually, make it mandatory so we can tell which player is "active" at a glance.

Suggestions for other multiplayer games:

Horseshoes: Disable the grab feature so that players cannot just grab the stake, but otherwise players will have to see if they can wrap themselves around the stake or land closer than their opponent. The same idea might work with shuffleboard.

Miniature Golf: This would be more difficult, because you couldn't use the same background (alley) over and over. It would be cool to have 9 simple holes with traditional obstacles such as windmills, ramps, etc. Except that, instead of hitting a ball, you are trying to launch your character, bouncing off objects and eventually "ooching" into the hole.

Environments:

A zoo sounded like a cool idea at first, but it isn't quite as funny wiping out polar bears and tigers as taking out mimes. Plus, the humor would have to come from the animals interacting with each other or the environment after being broken out of their cages.

So, instead, I think you need people-laden environments, preferably with equipment and structures. Lots of people in a fairly enclosed space, lots of structures and machinery to break, chain reactions to start, etc. So how about:

Airport Terminal
Shopping Mall
Factory (auto, candy, bakery, etc.)

If you want to go the "fantasy" route, you could put the characters inside a pinball-type machine or something.

Posted on 12.08.07 20:47 PM by Android66

My two suggestions are an Airport (launch from near a runway, ability to launch into planes, ground vehicles, or through the terminals) and an extreme sports park (smash the skateboarder, grab a BMX rider, launch yourself into the middle of a paintball field).

Posted on 12.08.07 21:23 PM by Reckoner

Er, an airport like Android66 said just above me. Great minds must think alike!

Posted on 12.08.07 21:24 PM by Reckoner

Is the Aftermath leaderboard just going to be the only one to be cleared or is mime toss and spank the monkey leaderboards going to be cleared as well? They don't have ridiculous scores like Aftermath.

Mime Toss is really the only thing I mess with anymore and I don't want to try to break my time if it's just going to be cleared soon.

Posted on 12.08.07 22:05 PM by Neon Reaver

Sorry if I copy any ideas from others. I didnt feel like reading all the comments.

Future Themes I'd like to see

The Beach - Water physics, Hotels being rebuilt from recent hurricane to cause mayhem, Pirate Ship off the coast with cannons to shoot you back for big points.

School Yard - Playgrounds, angry teachers, school buses.

Big World - Characters are small as bugs, lawn mowers, ant hills.

A Christmas Ode' To "Pain"

Twas the night before Christmas,
I was holding my breath

My XBOX not working,
the “three rings of death”

Sixaxis controllers
hung by the Bravia with care,

In hopes that Phil Harrison
soon would be there;

The children all nestled
by the Playstation store,

With thoughts of downloadable
content and more;

With Jarvis looking “fly”
and udders on Ed,

Visions of “tossing my cookie”,
whirled through my head

Then out on the rooftop
I saw scaffolds and ladders,

I plowed them butt first,
It’s the farting that matters;

Flung into a window
I flew like a flash,

Bounced off of the Man Hole,
and into the trash;

Then what to my wondering
eyes should appear,

Than small monkeys to spank
while slapping their rear;

I knew in a moment,
couldn’t be stupid mimes,

But Jarvis again,
busting out his dope rhymes

Out on the lawn,
was it Santa or Rudolph?

It ‘twas Travis by golly,
and he said with a cough;

More PAIN on the way,
more things not to miss

Have a great new year
and a Merry Christmas!

Posted on 12.08.07 23:37 PM by DougHeffernan

If you make a theme that is on the Moon, you can add crazy gravity laws that would increase the challange thoses skills you mentioned. Also each theme should come with at lest two new characters to launch that are you unquiee to that theme. Other themes could be hmm A college campus ( think Animal House), A renisance fair ( where people are all dressed up like knights and maidens), How about time travel and have themes like Ancient Rome, Caveman/Dinosaurs, Old West. How about a Boss level= Have a Giant Spank the Monkey Chimp tear apart a city. You have to launch your character and land on key weak points on the monkey to defeat him. The monkey can swat away the character or turn his position so you miss the spots. Think, if one of the spots is the mouth, you slide down his throat and Ooch your way throw his system to ultimately be farted out. You have to defeat the monkey before he destroys the city. You have to save a percentage of the city to pass to get metals. At higher difficulties, the giant Chimp will move faster and block more hits. If you like this idea, I just graduated from college and looking for work =) hint hint hint.

@Doug Nice Poem man that ROCKED!

@Pee Wee. Yes There are PAIN XMB Themes on the way. Look for them on the next several PSN Store updates. We have a steady stream of them coming out starting next week. They come complete with custom icons and sounds.

@Everyone. Just because I don't mention online multiplayer every update don't think I have forgotten about it. I haven't.

@Deef-Fence. The PAIN is supposed to be funny not graphic. Then it goes from funny haha to just being mean.

The area ideas are great people keep em coming. Once I have a short list I might just make a poll out of it. Stay tuned.

Downtown was awesome! Not that I wouldn't want to see new themes, but maybe you guys working on PAIN could expand towntown. It would make it really hard to go out of bounds and not be able too see your character.

hey travis, now the game looks great! i am desperate to play it but its not out here in the UK, is there any release date confirmed yet? i really hope it comes out soon! please let me no...i cant wait much longer!!

thanks

Posted on 12.09.07 11:16 AM by Ben

No release date yet Ben. I am working with Sony Europe to make that happen sooner rather than later. As soon as I have a date I will let you know. Apologies to everyone in Europe, but hopefully the improvements we are rolling into the new version (which will automatically be included in the US version) will make it worth the wait.

Posted on 12.09.07 12:31 PM by travis williams

Travis,

I love the game and I thinking having you communicate with everyone is so awesome. Especially since you actually listen to us. Keep it up man. So I was brainstorming and here are a few ideas I came up with.

Things that should be included in the theme park...

- A very dangerous parking lot either behind the sling shot or off to the left or right of the theme park. Those parking lots can be a little crazy especially with all the teenage drivers, irritated parents, etc. It would also be cool to see jarvis grab a explosive and chunk it into a line of cars and just seeing them explode.

- Have shows going on that you could shoot jarvis onto the stage messing the whole show up and allowing caos to insue. (I am just imagining watching a show from a crowd and seeing someone randomly tossed into the dancers on the stage and knocking over the set and stuff. lol) Oh and remeber alot of these shows like to use explosion effects sometimes... So there has to be a fuel source somewhere near by.

- A monorail... enough said.

- Have a bungy station. Where someone is set up but is afraid to jump off the platform or pull the cord (depending on the bungee style you go with) and thats where jarvis comes in to ehmm persuade them by giving thme a little push and sometimes he might just grab on and go for a ride.

- Allow for more environment destruction so maybe I could take out a few supports on the roller coaster to knock out a specific portion of track allowing the rollercoaster to go flying across the park.

- Bumper carts

I will try and come up with some more later. I have to go run some errands but I will post some more of my ideas later on.

Thanks for taking everything we say into consideration Travis. It very appreciated.

DougH, loved your rhyme. Especially that part with Phil Harrison who no doubt have been more active and busy than Santa himself.

Posted on 12.09.07 14:43 PM by Tommy*

I just got a good idea. You know the mini game that there is some one on a bench over a pool of water and you must throw a ball on the target but instead to throw a ball you would throw your character and you must put bumper cars on the stage it would be great. And maybe you could put acrobats that would do a show and could dodge you character by doing acrobatic figures.

Posted on 12.09.07 14:44 PM by BumbiQc

A few ideas with the amusement park:

make sure theres a ferris wheel and it comes off somehow so you can roll it through the park. This could work like the bowling ball did in downtown - its the BIG object you can knock loose.

Its an amusement park - so make sure there are LOTS of people walking around, especially children. I want to run over children with a ferris wheel. =D

Convenience stands (ice cream stands, burger stands, soda stands, etc.) could be moveable objects if you hit them with enough force, and could be strategically placed near crowds of people or secondary objects like dumpsters, crates, and port-o-potties.

I like the idea of a roller coaster. It could weave through the park and act a lot like the train did in downtown. It would be cool if it had people riding in it, and if you could break part of the track while its going through a loop it could fly through the air and crash.

Just a few thoughts. Hope the park turns out to be awesome!

i know in game music isnt a theme but it would be nice...

im not sure if a school has been said but ive always wanted to destroy things and go through windows at school so i think that would be fun with like a gym and stadium, pool plus class rooms... im sure yall could come up with some funny black board sayings

thanks for making this game its a nice addition... dont forget online too ; )

oh and yall need to add characters like a jack thompson... hurting him would be fun or like a britney spears or other famous people worth giving pain

Posted on 12.09.07 16:18 PM by TheLost

oh and i have no clue how hard this would be but if there was a way for users to make new things i think yall would hit a jack pot... something like outta ut3 with mods or little big planet where we could throw out some of our own crazy ideas and share them

and we definently need to be able to save replays and take pictures... you could get some great backgrounds from this game... i wouldnt mind a granny throwing background on my ps3

Posted on 12.09.07 16:22 PM by TheLost

ok i know im killing you with comments but i know lair and some other game are able to be played over the psp with remote play... could this possibly also happen with pain?

Posted on 12.09.07 16:25 PM by TheLost

HEY HOW ABOUT AN AIRPORT WITH TRAMS SUBWAYS AND ALL SORTS OF AIRCRAFT. WITH OPEN TERMINALS LIKE THE ONES IN TROPICAL AREAS.

Posted on 12.09.07 17:30 PM by krismorrison84

A cool gameplay mode could be Chicken, have 2 players (or more!) try to hit each other on a launch, and possibly grab on to each other, could lead to some fun times. Also for themes:

1. A footbal stadium with like an nfl game going on, or possibly a marching band and you hit the guy with the tuba and causes a huge chain reaction of people falling in the band, or you hit the coach and the players try to tackle you. So many possibilities. Or for that matter and sporting event.

2. A Huge mansion, with secret passageways, very expensive stuff that would be VERY fun to break, and butlers and maids to harass. I could see a character breaking a huge TV with president bush giving a speech on it and making fun of him.

3. A Supermarket, having tons of isles and breaking fruits and making candy spill with people falling and slipping on it, launch yourself into the meat cutters and see the body parts come out all chopped up. lol!

4. A concert hall, having a symphony or even a rock band playing, you could hit the people on stage, make the curtains fall or the catwalks. Like I said, many possibilities for each level. Depending on how creative you are, and you guys seem to be extremely creative! Or possibly a studio audience type show, like the late show or something like that

I would love to see celebrities or politicions as characters.

Sorry if some of these may be redundant, I haven't had time to read through it all.

Happy Holidays!

Posted on 12.09.07 21:05 PM by GCadets_Bari

i was thinking maybe a nascar race track with a ton of cars, motorcycle chicken, angry inmates racing for their life (and chicken) + u making their life miserables (like the book...)

Posted on 12.09.07 21:07 PM by seblefou

Nascar race track, concert hall, supermarket, football stadium, mansion, school, and a parking lot? What dumb ideas. What fun could you have launching your character around a parking lot? Come on people, give some better ideas. I know I haven't came up with any good ideas either but come on.

Posted on 12.09.07 21:16 PM by adam_thewarrior

I didn't read all of the previous post because there are way to many so i hope this hasn't been said but I'm thinking maybe a farm environment. Big windmill, various animals, barn, silos, farmhouse, scarecrow, guy on tractor, and I'm sure you could throw in some mean looking farm equipment.

Posted on 12.09.07 21:26 PM by AlphaRedWolf

How about a moveable launch pad, maybe you could set aside a different mode that won't have leaderboards and allow you to move the launch pad to anyone you want with 360 degree rotation, in downtown i would love to start launching from a really high place or from the subway area.

Posted on 12.09.07 21:27 PM by GCadets_Bari

anywhere**

Posted on 12.09.07 21:27 PM by GCadets_Bari

Oh I agree with Neon Reaver on the Vegas idea. It would look great with all the lights, and think of all the crazy themed casinos you guys could come up with. The Vegas atmosphere would be great for jokes too.

Posted on 12.09.07 22:21 PM by AlphaRedWolf

Yeah, Vegas is the first good idea I have read on here. There are plenty of things to launch into. Smart thinking Neon Reaver.

I personally don't care about the leaderboards. I only play with people in the same room, that way I can see their expression when I get the big scores(espically calling them a whore on horse when they have the letters hor).

How about Jurrasic Park for a theme? It would be awesome to launch into T-Rex's fenced in cage.......

Posted on 12.09.07 22:33 PM by adam_thewarrior

I think a theme with a construction site as a main focus would be fun - imagine a half developed skyscraper, mostly I beams, scaffolding and the occasional suspended beam, with workers and their equipment scattered appropriately (and a monkey or two ) and of course a generous helping of panes of glass.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but I find some morbid humor in the idea of watching the framework for a skyscraper all come crashing down...

Posted on 12.10.07 06:38 AM by InAHaze

a heaven and hell theme could be a lot of fun

Posted on 12.10.07 06:50 AM by inkerjay

I know you have to keep the game teen, but maybe you can satisfy the people who want dismemberment by making a toy character that breaks apart on impact. Or maybe an alien/monster thing that "bleeds" green blood so that it isn't so violent.

Posted on 12.10.07 07:00 AM by inkerjay

Loving the game, guys, and first off I want to say thanks and keep up the good work!

As for input, more than anything else, I would love to see a fully functional roller coaster (with people in it!) Doesn't matter what kind, although I would imagine a typical wooden coaster would be the easiest to create. It'd be wicked to grab onto a moving coaster!

I can't really think of any themes right now, but whatever you come up with, please have more crazy mascots! The cow was hilarious; I'd love to see more!

Posted on 12.10.07 09:03 AM by SithLordOfDeath

i really like the idea of an amusment park and the airport sounds great. I'm really interested in new characters (I still can't figure out how to unlock ED) and maybe a little more detailed "How To" book. It took me forever to aim in mime toss. Being a mechanic, something like a shop area would be cool, maybe not as an entire theme. But knocking cars of lifts, exploding air tanks, flying tools, hmmm sounds like fridays. Anyway thanx for the great game and looking forward to more

Posted on 12.10.07 09:45 AM by Jace

I REALLY love the idea of a military base theme. Here are some ideas along those lines:
Have a flightline near the back with military jets taking off & landing, that you could potentially grab on to. There could be some highly flammable fuel trucks on the flightline, along with jets with weapons along the runway that you could explode.

Have munitions storage that could cause huge explosions.

Have a firing range you can land in.

Have trucks carrying various weapons, explosives, etc.

Have soldiers marching and singing some crude marching songs....you know the ones, lol.

Have boxes of grenades you can grab onto and throw.

Have a helicopter or two that are easier to grab onto than planes.

Some character ideas...a hardcore drill instructor would be cool for this theme. For anything else, ninja, pirate, redneck, and I've been dying to launch granny, lol. Keep up the good work.

Posted on 12.10.07 11:00 AM by RunninBlock

Travis,
very cool game! I've never heard my wife gasp in horror so much in my life (well, since the honeymoon, anyway. :-o). God, I've played the damn thing for hours/days/I can't really remember...since the Thursday it came out, basically.
I have a self-referential idea:
Launching our hero through other PS3 game environments... for instance, a particularly hazardous part of a level of Resistance: FOM, or Warhawk map (in full action of course), or UT3. It might be fun to even see a Little Big Planet-looking version of downtown. Granted, all these levels would need to be somewhat re-created/skinned to mimic the PAIN look & feel.

Also, DLC characters from other PS3 titles would be cool (i.e. Nathan Drake, Nariko, or various villains, etc.) complete with parody dialog/poses. I mean how cool would it be to fling Ratchet into the horde of Chimera infesting some controversial English Cathedral?

Really cool.

Posted on 12.10.07 11:06 AM by djomg

As for a theme.. A car manufacturing plant. All those machines making the cars, with assembly lines and pieces of cars all over. Exploding barrels.. workers.. a crash test area, Electrical areas for that electocution Idea u sounded fond of. You could also do a 3-ring circus. Have that big ball that motorcycles drive around in.. the flying trapeze, high wire, elephants, those wacky clowns.. a lions den.. Strong man..bearded lady..and the list continues. Also are you guys lookig to expand on the multiplayer games as well? Keep up the good work PAIN ROCKS!!

Posted on 12.10.07 15:34 PM by CTK*Spongebob

How about a game mode that would tell you a set of objects in the level, and have you hit all of them in one launch? That would be awesome if you ask me.

Posted on 12.10.07 22:10 PM by severeon

I think a small suburban town with some trucks and cars driving by, a farm with like cows and chicken and random tornadoes popping up everywhere (maybe 1 or 2 at a time)would be pretty fun. Also, maybe a Hawiian (from Hawii the tropical island) island with a volcano and some treehouses that you can break through and reak havok on tourists and natives.

Posted on 12.11.07 00:56 AM by Alek

I'm sorry, let me add a level editor also- not puting in building and rollercoaster, but like adding and removing barrel's, porta-podies, cars, bikers, etc. But the score should not count towards a high score.

Posted on 12.11.07 00:57 AM by Alek

Oh a movie lot would be kinda cool. That way you could incorporate a few different cool ideas into one great level. You could throw in Indiana Jones with big rolling stone ball, Jaws, any kind of alien film and other movies all on there. Changing the titles of course so ya don't get sued and to something funnier.

Posted on 12.11.07 07:32 AM by AlphaRedWolf

Please add save replay feature!!!

incredibly funny pain video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMBi2BjZrR8

Posted on 12.11.07 09:00 AM by rhap4boy

i think maybe a secret passage to a horror house for the theme is nice, just like the warehouse, where you hit the nanny then go inside...so...horror house plus those scary things inside it...

or maybe a psycho circus, with strange things inside, like : alien, yeti, lochness, giant squid, bla..bla..bla..

Posted on 12.11.07 11:32 AM by vulpecule

hey travis,
you mention improvements to the US version that should be rolled out when the EU version hits (hopefully). I am curious as a US-based gamer if this update will include remote play functionality with the PSP.
PAIN would be ideal for remote play, with all of the button configuration translating fine (no dual analog needed, just increase power with another button), all of the Havok physics would be computed on the ps3 but display would look great on PSP. A lot of other titles are implementing this feature via updates (High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition, Folding@home) as well as the titles that shipped with Remote Play already active (PixelJunk Monsters, LAIR, Imabikisou, Aquatopia, Maininchi Isshyo,...)

It only takes up 8MB of the PS3's ram, so it seems like this would be doable. We'd love to hear about it on the Unofficial PS3/PSP Remote Play Thread: boardsus.playstation.com/.../message

Posted on 12.12.07 02:19 AM by StalkingSilence

someone said area 51 earlier...that would be perfect... aliens, some electrocution points, and if possible you could do a huge area with maybe a circle of launch points around it so you can include some different alien area type things.

READ ME
PLEASE ADD ONLINE PLAY...
sorry its in bold, but it would be soooooo coool.

and replays of highscores.

I love this game. i do think the price was a bit much for the content, but if online modes and replays are free then it was totally worth it.

Posted on 12.12.07 04:55 AM by Jeff7

how about this for a new area

a live concert area like woodstock, with mud, lots of people, maybe people racing around on bikes, overhead cameras on wires, etc.

i'd love to watch Jarvis smack a lead singer doing his split eagle pose! or maybe smash into a drum set.

Posted on 12.12.07 05:09 AM by crazyl

dude you show totally make a las vegas strip theme. Lots of crazy stuff there , lights, statues, buildings and plenty of traffic you get my drift. It could be a great theme if done right, good luck and have a great holiday.

Posted on 12.12.07 05:37 AM by jeremyprice11

Was Up,I Had Few ideas like

1)You could play as a clown that faces down and throws pies
2)And what about playing as Brock Lee?
3)Creation-why cant we create our own levels and characters, that would make the game very fun

Posted on 12.12.07 06:01 AM by PainJunkie2

I hope that since you put Santa and his "Cookie" in this game, you would have to put other season characters in there as well.
The "New Years" baby for new years, the Easter bunny for Easter, a Leprechaun for St. Patty's day, Uncle Sam for Fourth of July, the Grimm Reaper for Halloween, a big fat turkey for Thanksgiving.....and so on and so on and so on....as for themes...I love the amusement park idea and the Las Vegas strip idea. How can you go wrong in the city of sin!!!!
I do hope that the themes are comming out soon tho....I know they take time, but I'm craving something new to destroy!!!!!

Posted on 12.12.07 06:18 AM by THEfireman

I'm officially going to submit my idea which I had mentioned in your previous post. I think it would be funny to have a character that is a sado-masochistic who loves pain. Instead of yelling out in pain, he could moan and groan in pleasure from the pain. Dress up the guy with leather buttless chaps, denim pants or just a leather thong with a leather hat and a large mustache and/or beard. You can use the guy who is the construction worker, the guy in the sewer, or the one in the port-o-potty. They all seem to be the same guy anyway. OR you could dress him up like "The Gimp" from the movie "Pulp Fiction".
Other characters that would be cool could be celebrities like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, or other celebs who make headlines. Even better yet, you could have POLITICIANS we could launch! I know I'd like to toss a few of them already, and since it is an election year, it would be fun to launch a few of them after seeing their political ads for the hundredth time.
As far as ideas for environments, I think having a "Las Vegas Strip" kind of environment would be fun to destroy. Lots of tourists walking around, lots of large neon signs, buildings and monuments to hit like the Eiffel tower, Statue of Liberty, Bellagio fountains, Luxor pyramid, etc.
I also think that Santa and Cookie need their own environment too. Maybe a cool "North Pole" setup for next Christmas? Along those lines, you could have the Easter Bunny on "Easter Island", a trick-or-treater in a "Halloween Town", that kind of thing.
It would be cool to have a "Pain" world tour in the future, where you could launch your characters into cities like New York, L.A., San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Washington D.C. etc.
Other ideas I thought would be cool would be places like an airport, the Mall of America, a military base in Iraq, Area 51, a Space Station with lower gravity, or maybe even a large zoo with animals who attack and throw the characters. I have a lot of ideas really! HIRE ME! LOL
As far as the gameplay goes, I'd like to be able to keep the score you have instead of it resetting everytime you launch. So that you can destroy the entire area and see how many points you can accumulate in however many launches. It would make one player a little more enjoyable for me personally. I have a hard time getting the high scores I've heard about others getting, so it gets frustrating when I'm playing it alone and I tend to just quit after a while. Co-op Multiplayer would be fun as well, letting players launch at the same time with a split screen in the same environment. Think of the damage you could do that way!
You guys have a great game here and I CAN'T WAIT until the next environment comes out. I've kind of grown tired of "downtown" already and hope that a new download is coming real soon. This week maybe? please?

Posted on 12.12.07 07:16 AM by DJRippey

i was thinking of a cool lever after the amusment park, what about an airport? where you can hit planes or inside an airport terminal where you can smack people inside. also I was playing pain a couple days ago and was trying to grab those little plates on the table at that resturant and thought to myself this woukd make a great minigame. just a couple ideas I had. later

Posted on 12.12.07 12:38 PM by SomeDude

Thursday is so far away! Oh yeah so you don't forget Travis.... ELECTROCUTION!! lol. I was wondering, for how long will you guys keep releasing levels and updates for Pain? What's the overall gameplan? 10 levels? 20? How many years untill you say that Pain is done? Just curious because this seems to be the first of a new kind of game and in many ways will set precedents.

Posted on 12.12.07 15:13 PM by Andrew

Thanks for all the comments trust me. It’s nice I don’t even have to take notes to the meeting in January I can just print this page. That’s so awesome. Let me make sure I stress a few things.

First of all Andrew electrocution is GOOD(gameplay wise at least). I am just thinking of all the cool things you can do with that. Especially with a DualShock3. Has anyone played PAIN with one yet? You know it’s compatible right? I can’t play PAIN without one now. The feeling is so much better when you feel the hits.

Secondly. Your online pleas have been heard. Consider us on notice. Like I said before when it’s time I will tell you our plans. But everyone has made it clear they want that feature. I hear and I obey.

@DJRippy: Buttless chaps? You sir need a timeout. Go sit in the corner. I’m a Teen rated game MAN. Buttless chaps. Havemercy. (Although the mental image is funny) NOTGONNAHAPPEN

@TheFireman: The new characters are pretty funny. Wait till you see them soon.

@StalkingSilence: Remote play? Hmmm one online thing at a time. First let’s get that online play working. And a big update will happen when Europe and Asian PAINs come online. I will let Jeff tell you about that in his update this week.

@CrazyL: A concert would actually be funny. I wonder what band I would like to smash into the most.

@Tripp: Bungy station eh? You lookin at prototype ideas?

@Markito: We are not done with PAIN I yet. The whole idea was to get the idea out. Now that everyone knows what PAIN is we will release more content that you guys can destroy. So before you start talking PAIN II lets finish out what PAIN I is all about.

@Inkerjay: No Blood! PAIN is supposed to be silly, shocking and funny but never gory. I don’t think gore is funny. Funny comes before everything else.

@Sithlord: Mmmm Rollercoaster NOW YOU’RE TALKING PADNUH!

@DJomg’s wife: I would say I’m sorry but I’m really not. Stop hoggin the SIXAXIS DJ let her play too.

@Everyone: We are working on Replay sharing. When we got something cool I will share. Vegas sounds really sweet and we have some Sony characters already being launched in our dev environment. When they are ready to go I will announce them.

Two PAIN XMB Themes are coming this week. Make sure you get them when they come to the PSN store. They don’t cost anything and I think the two Christmas ones are very cool.
Take it easy peeps. I’m goin to bed.

Posted on 12.12.07 16:18 PM by travis williams

Travis, I've played PAIN with a DS3. It was okay, but I expected more vibration. Have you played the Burnout Demo? That is one vibrating game!!

As for a band to smash into - how about "Hanson"? Jarvis can Mmmmmmmmmbop them off the stage.

Posted on 12.12.07 16:49 PM by BlueFrog007

As for new environments; I'd like to see the PAIN WORLD TOUR featuring top cities such as New York, Toronto, Moscow, Sydney, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong. Each city could feature some stereotypes (Canadian Mounties and Beavers, Koalas and Aborigines in Australia...) plus some landmarks to smash into.

Someone else mentioned a zoo, and that sounds pretty cool as well.

Posted on 12.12.07 16:54 PM by BlueFrog007

New theme? needs unicorns. and leprechauns. and bunnies. and rainbows. and fairies. to maim.

Posted on 12.12.07 17:14 PM by jedbeetle

Ok, sorry if any of these idea's are repeditive.
1.) Airport or decimated Airfield full of destoryed planes and hangars
2.) Tokyo with a semi Godzilla type deal
3.) A huge music festival where there's tents and crowds and odd things to crash into
4.) A carnival similar to music festival, but with a bit more rides than the indoor theme park and some mini games for single player and multiplayer
5.) Lastly for theme environments is a japanese or shaolin temple with either a huge buddha to do damage with or some really crazy buildings to smash off of.

Character ideas
1.) Ninja from multiplayer caption screen
2.) A Pirate
3.) Mrs. Claus
4.) A disgruntled postal worker
5.) Oderus Urungus from GWAR (I know this would take some real crazy deals to get done, but I personally would love to launch him around town)

Basic game improvements:
1.) as said before by someone else a way to skip some of the opening deals after you beat Crash Course
2.) Somewhat of a stat sheet would be nice
highest launch, longest distance, oddest occurance etc...
3.) I agree with the masses different characters for each player in multi player
4.) More stages........ lots more stages.

sorry so long.... thanks for reading though

Posted on 12.12.07 17:25 PM by Jebus13

Nice little UFO you guys put on the reflections of the windows...
Im glad your team are already working hard at updating the game, I'm hoping some add-ons will be free.

spoofs of movie scenes or other games might be entertaining

Posted on 12.13.07 09:44 AM by SuperGumby

Yeah, more statistics for sure! Your game obviously records many stats, we should be able to see them. And have something come up on screen when you record a new high. Things like Most PAIN Points from a single collusion, Highest Launch, Longest Launch (till 1st hit), Longest Distance Traveled (entire turn), Most Ooches, Most Grabs, Fastest Speed Reached. And some way to keep track of peoples individual scores in bowling. I play bowling a lot with probably 8 different people, I would love to be able to show them that I have won the most games and have recorded the most points in a single game. Also, Stats for bowling and individual players, track defensive stops and times someone got shut out. Let us change the names of bowlers and use different characters each. I want my PAINbowling to say "Gavin Wins" and "Steve was the first loser" and "Lister really sucked it up this time". And then somewhere we can compare stats.

Thanks a lot guys, this is a great opportunity for communication, glad you respond to [other] people.

PAIN rocks, looking forward to new stuff.

Travis,

We need a new character in a full body cast

Posted on 12.13.07 10:40 AM by PhoenixCE

Just make sure the amusement park has PLENTY of patrons and mascots abound...
Also porta johns and possibly an electric fence would add a nice touch...
Everything else I trust you guys are doing right, as this is one of the more fun games I've played in some time...
One more thing, a little more traffic in downtown would've added a lot more depth IMO...

Hey Travis. I love your game! Keep up the good work, especially on the Amusement Park! I have one question. I know how to get Ed the Mascot, but how are you supposed to blow him up 12 times? I've hit the bomb while he was right next to it, and he goes flying, plus I've done it 12 times, it still doesn't do anything at all! I know it is a stupid question, but I really want to know. You can call me a newbie, I just want you to tell me.

-Thanks

First off, great game. My whole family loves it. (*8, 11, 35, & 36*)I can't wait to see what's next. Add my name to the "where's the online play", but how about when playing multiplayer horse, or any mulitplayer game (*as we do in my house, daily*) each player can pick a different character....oh and how about adding that to online play, too? Keep up the great work.....BTW, how the hell do you score 2 BILLION points?! WTF?!

I'm amazed this hasn't been brought up yet....

And im suprised nobody has said LEVEL CREATOR yet. I didnt see it at least. That would be great. Online play would be awesome, and i just voicing my support for that. If you do, make sure it supports voice chat!I cant wait to see the roller coaster stage, when can we expect it? (This month? January?), and will it be free? Sorry if I missed that.... Thanks for making an excellent game

A cool theme -

A Stoner in Amsterdam - bounce from the trains to boats on the canals ... to the red light district

Posted on 12.14.07 10:30 AM by Roadking01

so far my favorite ideas are:

1) MINIGOLF COURSE as a stage would be awesome AND/OR a multiplayer minigame like bowling -- like you have to hit the windmill before ooching into the cup or launch into an opening way up high to slide through an pipe system to the green. i think of the minigolf place from Happy Gilmore.

2) TOKYO at night would be kinda like Vegas, except tall buildings and more variety of objects, characters, and events to trigger. Godzilla's a good idea, but there's that eight-story TV screen in Shibuya, neon signs, those giant crabs displayed on seafood restaurants, statues, Karaoke bars, sakura trees, etc. And don't forget the Geisha, Sumo, schoolgirls, drunk Japanese salarymen, Euro tourists, Anime Cosplay, street bands and wild fashion like Ganguro (crazy tan teens with white eyemakeup) or Harajuku Baby Goth?

3) MUSEUM is something I've mentioned before. Other people have mentioned a large mansion or gallery, but I still think that taking out a dinosaur or mammoth skeleton would be so fun -- even take out a giant plastic Manta Ray hanging from the ceiling! Or to knock over a giant globe and have it tumble through the lobby?

4) ZOO or an animal preserve of some kind. Similar to the jungle idea or whatnot. I've personally always had a desire to knock those damn animals (toucan, giant snake/boa, monkey, sloth, etc.) out of the trees, drop into a pride of lions/lionesses, or trip an elephant onto it's ass. plus there are those carts or jeeps with zookeepers acting like they own the place.

5) CIRCUS where there are lion trainers, trained elephants, magician, tight-rope walker, trapeeze and gymnastics, strongman, bearded woman, etc.

Posted on 12.14.07 22:49 PM by Bobechi

I think som good ideas would be....
1)a NEIGHBORHOOD-so you can smash through peoples windows and scare the poop out of the families
2)a JUNGLE- so you can sling into animals and they try to eat you
3)A MILITARY BASE-with electrocution fences,tanks,jeeps,jets taking off,etc.
And Also, how about some Level Creation that would be awsome...

CHARACTERS
1)NInja-the ninja from the when u highlight MULTIPLAYER it shows a ninja being owned by santa
2)A character in a full body cast
3)A FOOTBALL PLAYER-so we can tackle people(AND THE FOOTBALL PLAYER SHOULD HAVE "PAIN" ON HIS BACK.

MISC
you could also put online play that would be fun

Posted on 12.15.07 00:50 AM by PainJunkie2

ok, i got the mascot. i love your game! cant wait till the amusement park opens! oh yeah, i also go with the jungle idea, and i think the majority of us does. so, definitely tell the team that that is what we want whenever you have time. also vegas sounds nice, and ive been there before 3 times, so trust me there are lots of things to SMASH! thanks for working hard -Evan

hi travis,

any multiplayer more like when u playing scoring game the opposite player try to shoot projectile at u to prevent u from scoring that would be awesome

How 'bout a schoolyard with kiddies playing. Trashing kids and jungle gyms...then carry it over to the building a la subway station and wreck the classroom and just maybe kill the class hampster. Give a facefull of "sack" to Mrs. Crabtree.

Posted on 12.15.07 06:14 AM by MarlyT35

I am working on getting polling working on the board so we can start making official peoples desires until then keep em coming. Jeff is going to post the update today. Keep a lookout as he talking about something kinda cool. Remember Santa and Cookie XMB Themes will be released today on the store. So download them they are free.

@Jebus: I wondered when someone would say GWAR. Haha. It was only a matter of time. I thought about it myself. I know GWAR is for the kids and everything… I got some ideas.

@IQDroppin: Mini Putt Putt eh? Now there’s some interesting ideas for a theme and a launcher. That’s actually a very cool idea. Haha. I always say “Make it happen” too. It’s my line when I don’t want any lame excuses about why something can’t be done.

@Markito: You are talking to the wrong guy on price. It’s my job to make the donuts. Sales/Marketing decides how much we charge for the jelly filled treats. I can merely suggest. Then they tell me to shut my mouth and go make some more donuts. *sniff* That’s funny you all say the same thing. SHUT YOUR CAKE HOLE TRAVIS BUILD A NEW THEME!

@Bobechi: I though a museum would be interesting too. The only issue is nothing really moves fast through a museum. In PAIN Themes you need some damage causing high speed objects otherwise the area is just a little too slow. Does that make sense. The only thing fast moving in a museum are kids running because they wanna get the heck out of there.

@MarlyT35: You have some wicked childhood memories dontcha? Awwwwwww Ms. Crabtree! (I haven’t heard that OLD reference since DeLa Soul’s “Buddy” song)

@EvanL: I bomb Ed all the time. It’s what I do to relax. Here’s the best way to do it. Point the launcher to the right of the toss bomb directly in front of you in PAINdemonium mode. Press select to reset the scene. Everything will reset except your launch orientation. This is important because you need that toss bomb and Ed in position. Launch at the toss bomb and press the “square” button to grab it. Now this toss bomb sits on top of an ordinary bomb. When you grab the toss bomb the normal bomb will detonate. If you are holding on to the toss bomb with your left hand Jarvis will roll counterclockwise and to the right with his shiny new toy. Don’t let go of that bomb. I sometimes ooch down or to the left in the air after I have grabbed the bomb. Since PAIN is somewhat unpredictable here use your judgement. But if you reset the scene an unsuspecting Burger Barn Mascot will come strolling down the sidewalk just as you are flying through the air with that toss bomb. Introduce yourself to him by letting go of toss bomb. You will hear him scream. If you see the “Collateral Damage” text you know you got him with your explosion. Repeat 11 more times (Remember to reset so you can reposition Ed and your toss bomb every time). That’s the fastest way to get Ed. Tell me if this works for you.

@Everyone: You like that Ninja from the multiplayer screen eh? Hmmm I wonder how much.

Ok Travis, this is a few ideas for themes. I'll try not and go into too much detail...

1) A Shrunk down Jarvis in a kitchen or bedroom.

2) A futuristic outer space (with giant space ships and satelittes and stuff.

3) Paris (everyone would like to tear up france)

4) A city setting with a giant football stadium with a game going on. Down, set, hut... and the qb drops back and... whats this? Hes sacked by a random guy who flew over the stadium walls. lol

5) Medieval Castle setting. Flying into different windows of the castle, land on the kings dinner table, knock knights of horses, knock the gate gaurds down causing the gate of the castle to fly open. You could even downgrade the launcher into a catapolt

6) New York City Rooftops

7) Military barracks

8) Outside of a circus with all the crazy things that go on at a circus and be able to be shot into a giant circus tent with a circus going on.

9) A mountain town or city. ( no large flats areas )

10) A "Sports Mascot convention" and a "Explosive crates convention" side by side at a large convention center.

11) 1 level with a giant pit filled with nothing but explosive boxes and surrounded by multiple glass panes and gas trucks.

12) An active rock Quarry. Have you ever been to one? Explosions, giant trucks, cranes, multiple levels, it could be fun.

13) Last but not least lets say the launching pad is on a boat between the Golden Gate Bridge and "The Rock" (you know the old prison) and basicaly you could turn the sling shot around 360 degrees and aim at either or towards the shoreline etc...

I will submit more ideas when they come to me but that is my level ideas. Hope you take some into consideration. As for the bungee cord i still hope that is something you could include into the theme park some how. Thatd be great.

Posted on 12.15.07 18:06 PM by Tripp

Here's my idea. Smile

onemansblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/Red%20Rocks%20Amphitheatre.JPG

Outdoor concert at an amphitheatre. Maybe move the sound board platform back some to where it's in the center of the crowd and give him 360 degree freedom with the launcher. That way he can reach the stage, backstage and even people freeloading on the cliffs.

The reason for 360 degree freedom would be a populated concourse area (in what would be the foreground of that picture) with vendors, cops and an entrance gate with scalpers outside.

Tons of people to jack up. Maybe have a tier and rail between you and the stage with a dropoff so you could grab someone on top of their head and have room to flip and toss their butt onto the stage.

Posted on 12.15.07 19:13 PM by Chris

Would it be possible to have themed launchers to go with the extra characters when you release them? It'd be cool to have the launchers look different for some characters.
Like some other people already mentioned, I think a level editor would be GREAT, It just shouldn't allow high scores.

Posted on 12.15.07 19:52 PM by Dat_Snake

Travis,

How about a theme on an aircraft carrier. You'll have jets landing and taking off, so you'll have your things moving fast element right there. You have lots of things that go BOOM!; bombs, fuel tanks and tactical nukes Tong. Also, if an aircraft carrier is too small for you. You can always make the whole battle group. Shoot Jarvis into the main gun on a battleship and watch him fly over to another ship. Maybe even catch a ride on a cruise missile.

Posted on 12.15.07 20:12 PM by PhoenixCE

I like snakes idea. Sounds creative. Latch onto a helo, drop off and try to hit something. etc.

Posted on 12.15.07 20:36 PM by Psylar

Er I mean phoenixCE's

Posted on 12.15.07 22:41 PM by Psylar

@travis williams: Sans the cars and trains, downtown is pretty calm... until you 'splode some of it or freak the people. No?

You make an excellent point. In my head I just figured one tiny explosion could cause havoc among the patrons as everything around them tumbled and crumbled. A stock-pile of ancient weapons, two-story fossilized skeleton motherfx, unreasonably heavy objects tethered to the ceiling, and expensive, breakable things was amusing to me. BUT I accept your observation that a dull location = dull theme. Smile Upon a second look, I admit that it wouldn't be an attractive theme. Feel free to take my other action-packed suggestions where danger lurks around every corner, muwah-ha-hah!

Posted on 12.16.07 00:00 AM by Bobechi

you don't think gore is funny but you like GWAR? Travis Iove this game. No blood is fine I was just trying to find a middle ground. PINBALL!!!!!! that is what i want. Not just a level, a game mode. lots of buzzers and bumpers,= really high scores

Posted on 12.16.07 00:08 AM by inkerjay

Don't know if this one's been said, but the inside of a grocery store might be fun. Lots of things on shelves, stacks of cans and screaming kids in shopping carts to smash into....okay maybe the last one isn't such a good idea.

Posted on 12.16.07 01:11 AM by Dak

Hey travis it would be awsome to see what you all at Idol Minds are working on

plzzzzzz post another screenshot so we can be that more EXCITED to play it

Posted on 12.16.07 12:19 PM by PainJunkie2

Guys, just wanted to let you know that this is prolly THE funnest game I have EVER played...for real. Just watchin' that dude flying through the air and gettin' clothes-lined by a flag pole makes my day. A couple suggestions from a fan:

More poses
Different types of launchers (faster, higher, etc...)
MORE CHARACTERS! (Ninja would be nice, the Construction Worker and the Granny. I for one would also love to see the Mime as a playable character)

Keep it coming guys, and I can't wait for the amusement park!

Posted on 12.17.07 00:00 AM by Thomas

As far as another level....a different BIGGER city would be nice...maybe, slightly vegas-esque...?

Posted on 12.17.07 00:01 AM by Thomas

OH, and the voices MAKE the characters. I like the Santa, haha. That's one of the funniest things about the game. If it wasn't for the voices, I don't think it would be half as funny.

Posted on 12.17.07 00:15 AM by Thomas

oh! another great level idea came to me, what about a shopping mall? you can bust through windows to stores and fling shoppers across the mall and it can be multi-flores so it can be even more fun! this is a great idea!

Posted on 12.17.07 01:36 AM by SomeDude

Actually...I retract my earlier statement...A pirate would be better than a ninja. I mean, c'mon, ninja's are cool, but the voice acting on the Pirate would be hilarious.

Posted on 12.17.07 01:51 AM by Thomas

Good point, Thomas!!!!

"YARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!" LMAO!!

Posted on 12.17.07 03:45 AM by Chris

Hahaha, for real.

Posted on 12.17.07 04:11 AM by Thomas

You Guys RULE!!!!!!
at least I'm not a lone GWAR pain addict

Posted on 12.17.07 09:40 AM by Jebus13

Travis,

How about a level editor so we can rearrange all the objects in a given level and create new cities. Let adjust building heights, traffic patterns, etc...

Then let us save this and upload it to the PSN. I can see this nicely fitting in nicely with PS HOME.

Just a thought.

Posted on 12.21.07 18:38 PM by Opie76

Hey guys Great game! to be short i have a idea for a new theme. How about we get to launch our character.....in a shopping mall! Theres hundreds of people and shops plus it will compliment the holidays with every one shopping. Theres my idea i hope you like it merry christmas!

Posted on 12.21.07 22:18 PM by rayderz50

First off this game is great....i have at least 100 hours into it...how people are complaining for $10 i have no freaking clue.

But what about pain shooting gallery. where you have to hit moving targets from a variety of distances. Also like accuracy shots where your aim has to be perfect for a bullseye while stuff is moving, swinging, exploding and going crazy..either randomly or by multiplayer like bowling. You can even adapt the ring system (tiger woods golf mini games) with the outer rings being worth less points and if you can STOP in the middle you get more points for a bullseye. All while your friend blows the crap out of the place and sends objects flying.....and even has his own launcher to hit you out of the air after you launch with objects or himself hahahaha.

Thanks for a great game!!

Posted on 12.23.07 08:15 AM by Sw1tched

its really awesome how you read the gamers ideas and put some input into them for the game, great work, the most favorite thing i would like to see is the ability to customize a character, and that we can buy accessories from the ps store and stuff, great work on the game, i just unlocked aftermath and loving it!! lol, well props to you

Posted on 12.25.07 05:40 AM by StingrayX

What is the Aftermath level like? Is is the regular city level w/ extra stuff in it?

Posted on 12.25.07 06:36 AM by FonkyMonkey

Hey every one, i read in this magazine that this kid really wanted to play a game demo that was only released in japan at the time. So in order to play it he created an alternate japan account on his PS3. Doing so allowed him to download it. I don't know if its possible for you UK players and other people to do it but its worth a try.

Posted on 12.26.07 15:48 PM by rayderz50

CHARACTER IDEAS
1. an old war general. when you launch him, he cusses alot, but all you hear are bleeps.
2. the abominable snowman aka yeti.
3. some kind of space alien.
4. a robot who's body receives visible damage.
5. an astronaut. when you launch him he says "houston we have a problem".
6. easter bunny
7.sumo wrestler
8. secret agent man
9. evil kenevil
10. guy dressed as a lame super hero
11. BROCK LEE
12. a hippie

Posted on 12.30.07 07:44 AM by LMR13

I would like a snowman. I mean senowmen are funnt as h*** in Ratchet games so it should be even more fun in PAIN.
But first we need a Ninja, a cat or a dog and then you should think about a snowman. We'll i guess not everybody agrees with this, but still...

Posted on 12.30.07 14:25 PM by Tommy*

I have a cool idea for a combo in the LAS VEGAS level. It would be cool if you could launch yourself into an exclusive night club, get beat up by a bouncer, get tossed out into a busy street. You then get hit by a limo that throws you onto a trasure island set. BOOM!!! A cannon goes off. The cannon ball hits you, then you fly onto the new york new york roller coaster. the roller coaster goes flying off the track and lands on the VEGAS strip, where it slides all crazy like a snake, hitting performers (mimes and musicians), hobos, tourists, terrorists, the paperazzi taking pictures of paris hilton, pimps, hookers and your casual gamblers. huuuuh! (Trying to CATCHING MY BREATH)

What do you think? I would like a job application. No, not really im only 16, but if you guys need another member.

Posted on 12.30.07 21:22 PM by LMR13

I think you guys need a bit more population on the downtown level. It would be cool to see a guy skateboarding, a lady with a million shopping bags, and a hobo with a shopping cart.

oh, yeah, WHO EVER SAID TO ADD A SHOPPING MALL LEVEL IS COOL! there could be huge fountains (one should be that famous one of a naked little boy peeing) and alot of rich people and stuck up bratty daddy's little girls. There sould be banners, people eating, performers, the local news congradalating a man on the winning of the display car, and security chacing a punk rocker who is a theif. there could also be chandeleirs you could swing on, rock climbing walls, bungie trampolins (you know, they have that stuff at the malls sometimes)
, glass elevators etc.

Posted on 12.30.07 21:34 PM by LMR13

Don't name the sequal of pain "PAIN 2" name it like, more pain, extra pain/pain exra, too much pain, Pain maximus, maximum pain/pain max, painfull. its kinda hard to think of something that sounds really good, but try to stick with original ideas. you guys have done a really good job so far.

Posted on 12.30.07 21:41 PM by LMR13

i just downloaded this game yesterday and i love it sooooo much, it is totally worth 9.99 and since i live in tokyo i play it with a white dualshock 3 it is awesome. also i am moving to australia in 2 weeks so i would love if the amusement park theme and any other add ons could come out before them, because i am going to live with my grandma for 3 months and she doesnt have internet. also for a theme idea: like a really busy intersection with a train station in the center with huge hotels and office buildings rising up, something kinda like shibuya or shinjuku station if u have ever been to tokyo. also how much will the amusement park cost, coz my dad doesnt want me to spend money on every little thing u guys make, but keep up the good work

Posted on 01.03.08 13:08 PM by James

PaINBALL would be awesome. You could have pinball as a theme & new game mode. You can do anything with a pinball theme.

Posted on 01.04.08 05:41 AM by RunninBlock

omg i just thought of something else, it might be hard but like a character creator. a really cool one would be like the picture face editor on tiger woods pga tour 08 or something like how u make mii's on a wii

Posted on 01.05.08 04:16 AM by James

first of all, congratulations on creating a fantastic game - here are my 2 cents - do you remember a game called "The incredible Machine" ? One thing that can be interesting it to create puzzle-solving scenarios, where you have to position the itens in order to achieve a desired result (e.g. Explod the mimic in the subway)
Also, have scenarios where you can change some of the physic laws (such as gravity, attrition, etc.)

Posted on 01.07.08 21:49 PM by Allan

How about a suburbia level. Guys barbequeing, hot tubs, swimming pools, paperboys, mailboxes, the neighbor's roses, a doghouse that if you launch into it you get chewed up and spit out by the dog, if you go flying through certain windows you'll land on kids playing their PS3s, garbage cans/trucks, a school/park with gym equipment that's painful to land on, a corner auto shop where you can knock a car off a lift to land on you...
