Hey PAIN players. I’m really sorry for the period of silence yesterday, but we were swamped with launch day. I wanted to make sure I had the right answers for everyone today. We can’t be the OFFICIAL word and be wrong about things. I may be a little late to the party, but I want to answer a few questions about PAIN so that you all are not kept in the dark.

SANTA and COOKIE

Santa and Cookie are purchasable characters. When we posted PAIN Santa and Cookie were not uploaded to the PLAYSTATION(R)Store. They will be available today. So the error you might be getting by trying to select them is because those characters were not purchased. Once the store has Cookie and Santa they will appear as purchasable characters. Sorry about this confusion everyone.

ONLINE PLAY

When I said if you make enough noise we have to listen, I mean it. If online multiplayer is very important for you guys then I will have to take it to the development team and figure out what we can do. I would personally like this feature too. It would allow me to "represent" on some of you personally.

PLAYSTATION(R)3 THEMES

We have some pretty cool PAIN PLAYSTATION(R)3 Themes that we are almost done with. Look for them VERY soon. We have a theme for EVERY character in PAIN complete with sounds, icons and those backgrounds that you see on the PLAYSTATION(R)Store right now. We are getting into the swing of making these now so look for a new PLAYSTATION(R)3 Theme every time we release a launchable PAIN Character.

OTHER STUFF

We are working on more features as we speak. As soon as we are sure what’s coming next I will post again. Thanks for love everyone.

OH

The PAIN team is staying off the leader boards for NOW…. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED WE WILL SPANK THE MONKEY!

Purchasable content?....

So, they don't come with the game originally? What kind of pricing are we talking about here? 0.99$???

I had kinda hoped that this was just a bug instead of DLC.....

Posted on 11.24.07 23:25 PM by Aurvant

we want online play really bad!

Posted on 11.24.07 23:29 PM by onelap

Glad to see it's being resolved. Online play would be great and appreciated.

Posted on 11.24.07 23:31 PM by Telekill1981

Also, what about the user generated content? Like the saved replays that we were going to be able to post to the community?

Any word if thats coming this year? or after the holidays?

Sorry if we seem demanding, but think of it this way. We demand it because your product "is THAT FREAKIN AWESOME"

Posted on 11.24.07 23:32 PM by Aurvant

I just smashed through the subway system and not sure if its a glitch or what not but Im at 5 million points and counting lol WOO WOO record boards here I come

Posted on 11.24.07 23:55 PM by Can_U_C_me

Please don't tell me you guys are charging for new characters. These were suppose to be in the game when I've purchased it!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:07 AM by UXSamx

I agree...DLC is a terrible precedent that GH3 and Rock Band have set. I personally hope not every good add-on for PAIN costs money. I also think the game NEEDS online play. If it gets free online play and some free add-ons, I won't regret buying it!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:09 AM by InFeRnOg

Ok so you are working on an online patch great, but what about the ability to take a screenshot during replay? This would be great and allow endless creatives...ie.. new theme backgrounds of our own experiences.. trash talking proof of certain happenings. Other wise great game thanks.

Posted on 11.25.07 00:11 AM by jeremyprice11

The game was always advertised as having TWO playable characters, with the addition of others via DLC. I was surprised to see the two characters in the game, but I knew I was going to have to pay for them. We're not being short-changed, we're getting exactly what we've been told was coming for months and months. Go back and re-read some of the interviews and articles about the game.

Travis, I'd love to see Online Multiplayer in the game; I hope that could be a free update in the future.

First of all, thanks so much for developing a creative and seriously funny game. Kudos to SCEA and Idol Minds for making this project happen. THIS is what gaming is all about! Simple, clever games with simple rules can lead to very complex results and I'm very glad to see someone capitalizing on this. Well done!

Online play would make this game complete. Yes, you'd be able to 'represent' for Idol Minds and SCEA but I suspect that once people start playing online against each other they'll start swinging their 'junk' at each other. *That* is when we'll start to see some really clever and creative destruction. In the early days of multiplayer PC gaming we had to cart our gear to our buddies houses to hook up the IPX network on coax we started to make some noise. I became a master at packing my PCs (one was a dedicated server) and associated bits into my VW GTI. Once we were able to compete against each other from the comfort of our own homes across this great thing called the Internet multiplayer gaming came into it's own. Adding online multiplayer to PAIN will surely bring an entirely new dimension to what's already a splendid piece of work.
It is a bit of a shame that the Santa and Cookie content not being present is a bit misleading. I just hope it doesn't turn too many people off of the game. I also hope that this content is reasonably priced. I wouldn't think that additional content should cost anywhere near as much as the finished product, no matter how small the initial investment. Regardless I'll be getting Santa and Cookie, they look absolutely hilarious!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:23 AM by Tim

I love the game, but I feel that I paid $9.99 for a demo. When you download a demo for a game, what does it usually include? 1 level, 1-2 characters, and sometimes the different game types (so you can test them out). This is exactly what we got with pain and we paid money for it. I think for the price point set there should have been more included with it.

Please don't get me wrong, I love what I'm playing, I just think either A. The price point was too high for the content. or B. The content amount was too low for the Cost (I know they are the same, but it's just a different way to look at it).

Posted on 11.25.07 00:29 AM by Hatchet Man Studios

PPLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAASE Online play!!!!!

Also, could you guys do some free characters for XMAS hehe!!!! Ratchet please!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:30 AM by Zookey

online play please! the game is amazing right now but im afraid im going to get bored of the regular game!

Also...any new environments?

Anything new would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:35 AM by Sam

I was planing on buying this and have looked forward to its eventual release but having found out that I am going to be nickled and dimed for content. I'll just wait until it goes on sale or a package deal comes out with everything included. I agree with the comment above, "...but I feel that I paid $9.99 for a demo." I really would like to support the PSN but I think I'll pass on this for now.

Posted on 11.25.07 00:39 AM by Nosmo

The crap thing about the PSN is that most PSN games, you have to buy them to try them. Once you buy it and find out you hate it, you have to then just live with it cause you can't sell it back or to anyone.

I know another system that EVERY network game they release has a free demo to try...just saying.

Posted on 11.25.07 00:42 AM by bigdaddykraven

This game is fricken sweet! Keep the DLC comming!

My future request is that you allow saved replays, even better render them to movies that you can send to your friends! Or, at least keep a replay of your high scores so you can show them later.

KDaze

Posted on 11.25.07 00:43 AM by KDaze

i have to agree...It feels a lot like a really expensive demo. Will there be a patch to fix bugs for the people that have already dl'd it? I also think the extra characters should be free, or like...10 cents. new environments should also be maybe 99 cents max. 10 bucks for a game smaller than calling all cars?

I know complaining about the prices to you guys is pointless because you dont decide it, but please relay the complaints to those that do.

Posted on 11.25.07 00:48 AM by Jeff7

Online play sounds great, and I hope it does make it's way to us soon! The game is a lot of fun when playing horse and bowling with my roommates and I'm glad I bought the game!

Hopefully we'll see new 'maps' in the future for a low price. Can't wait for other updates. Thanks for making a great PSN game!

Only complaint I have (as with most games, but especially with PSN games) is custom soundtracks are a must. Yes the sound effects are important, but I would love to be able to listen to my tunes while playing/farting on the grandma. Please consider it!

Posted on 11.25.07 00:51 AM by ToN

TODAY THE 30th?ARE YOU SURE? COOL and did you say sounds??? now THAT IS COOL!!!! its cool you guys did this website for feedback this should be in a commercial so then it will be a S-Y-S-T-E-M S-E-L-L-E-R every game should have its own website for feedback

Posted on 11.25.07 01:06 AM by elprimodebklyn

I agree with everything Hatchet Man Studios posted. I thought I'd pay for a game that'd have atleast 2 or more levels and more then 1 characters and yes, it does feel like I bought a demo to try out. You guys should release some of these stuff for free to the guys who bought the game because it feels like a demo and I don't feel that I've bought a full game.

Sorry for complaining so much :/

Posted on 11.25.07 01:34 AM by UXSamx

This WILL be the downfall of video games AS WE KNOW IT.
While yes it is nice to be able to buy map packs, well, for those who are really into online multi player, or even extra songs for GH3, or Rock band, THIS WILL INFACT KILL EACH AN EVERY ONE OF US, take MORE of our money so you can recap your losses from the other games you make, that are a joke, nightmare, worthless and so on.
Now all they have to do is do what they did with Pain! Sell a SHORT/LIMITED/ INCOMPLETE game, then sell the key content on line for a price. And that is PLAIN OLD, WRONG! Same as everyone else, I buy a game, well what I think is a full game for 10 bucks, and I am limited at what I can do. Now I have to pay for characters that should come in the game, pay for extra levels, outfits, etc. This is NEVER GONNA STOP AND ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE END!
I and everyone else will see it for what it is, it will become the future. It is being written probably as I type this. Each and EVERY SINGLE GAME OUT THEIR NOW AND BEYOND WILL BE DOING THIS, AND WE WILL BE SCREWED.. Can't you see it? Gran Turismo 4( or 5), yes you get 50-100 cars, BUT instead of unlocking them, now we have to BUY them, or we get a toned down version of say a Corvette, BUT if you want the better Corvette, it will cost you 2.99 on up...Or you have to buy this Race track...Madden 2009.. comes with all the teams, but you have to pay for your stadium, or pay for certain players, pay for retro jersey's, or even pay for Historic Players... Grand Theft Auto..yes you get most of the game, but, you have to buy (as an example- Staunton Island, or Bullet proof vests, better weapons, cars, and so on...We will be paying up the wazoo for Levels, characters, outfits, cars, weapons, baseball bats in MLB, and the in game content I am not thinking of.
They are going to rip us for everything we have. WHY? THEY KNOW we love games, THEY KNOW we are addicts, They KNOW we are life long players, and they KNOW that a majority of us, WILL pay for all this other stuff that should be included already. Why? So I can have a MAP PACK of Resistance F.O.M. and do the same thing as the other levels, jsut a different background I am getting? Come on.
I understand you companies want to make your money back for the games you create etc. I understand and respect that. BUT when you come out with games that COMPLETELY STINK, like LAIR, Transformers, and so many hundreds of others that should have never been made, let alone released the way they were. WELL THAT IS YOUR OWN FRIGGAN FAULT. What company spends thousands, and millions upon millions of dollars, to create a game that doesnt sell better than a Chia Pet.
You have your employees working on a game that is going to be mass produced, Why don't you actually PLAY the game BEFORE it reaches the us and see how it is. PLAY IT, AND SEE HOW CRAPPY IT IS, and when you see how bad it is, A.I., controls etc., then pick up the phone, yell at some people, or fire them, and send it back until they do it right! Because now, WE have to pay for your mistakes, and complete lack of judgenment and lack of utter respect for us.
At E-3, we saw so many games that looked AMAZING. Like LAIR, Kane N Lynch etc.. and these games are PATHETIC, USELESS AND A WASTE OF OUR MONEY. While it is nice to look at, if I am paying 10 bucks, or 60, DON'T YOU DARE release a game, that gets a review of 5.0, 4.5 6.0 etc.. because the controls stink, layout horrible, A.I. is a joke.. and so on...
You mass market this crap, spend umpteen millions of dollars for what? So it can be reviewed as being a waste of OUR money. Great so now I go to Blockbuster and rent LAIR or Kane n Lynch.. I play it, and after 5 minutes, it's back at Blockbuster. So now I wasted 9 bucks finding out yourr game sucks. And guess what.. it probabl cost you 10 million on up to make it, how ever many millions to get it out to us. Charge us 60 bucks to buy it... and when you only sell 1000 copies, your in the red, have massive losses, companies go out of business and so on. All because you people are MORONS. And that leads us back too the downloadable content.
Nice to lure is on for 10 bucks, give us a few levels of play yet, the camera doesn't go around the entire city, as my guy is falling behind a building and I have no idea where he is, what he is near etc. Now we have to pay more money for Santa? Is Santa SPECIAL? Can Santa do things the other guys can't?? Well if Santa CAN do special things, then it is even MORE BS. Now I am going to pay MORE money so i can throw my guy into a wall at a different location? PLEASE.
I bought the EYE CAM, love it, it;s cool, yet i buy this Aquarium thing, and this other godawful game, thinking this should be interesting.. NOT. Waste of money, thank you.
I cannot speak for everyone here, or all over, BUT i can promise you that if this trend continues, and next year and beyond, you start pulling this crap with 75% of the games that come out, not giving us what we should be getting in the first place, YOU WILL LOSE PEOPLE and MORE MONEY, FASTER THAN I LOSE MY LUNCH AFTER I EAT BAD SEAFOOD! IT WILL BE THE EARLY 80'S ALL OVER AGAIN, Mass producing, completely worthless and unplayable games that will be burried next to Atari's E.T.
PLEASE, , DON;T DO IT, DON;T SCREW US LIKE THIS, BECAUSE IT IS WRONG, PLAIN AND SIMPLE, AND BASIC THEIVARY

could some of this be free..this beta was not worth 10$oh i mean this demo...what a scam..now u will try 2 drain us dry with bits and pieces that cost more then the game..the santa people should be 2 for $1

Posted on 11.25.07 01:46 AM by scottsmokedro

I would say that online play with more content and hell yeah online play is a must have for this game.

Posted on 11.25.07 01:51 AM by JamesL007

a beta or demo would suggest that there is a larger game comming. its not. quit whining. compare this 10 dollar game with a 60 dollar game and whats all included with it. i will buy dlc in the future.

Posted on 11.25.07 02:08 AM by un4gvn2

Pain is a great game which I thoroughly enjoy, but I don't see why the two characters were not included in the original download.

I support content which is developed after a game is released being sold separately, but charging someone full price(Pain is pricier than Everyday Shooter, Flow, Super Stardust HD and Calling All Cars) and then selling the content alongside the release of the game is ripping off the consumer.

Also, a demo would be nice, rather than requiring consumers to make a leap of faith. XBL doesn't offer up a game without offering up a demo, and I think that's a wise practice.

Posted on 11.25.07 02:18 AM by CarnageHeart

you people want things from 60 dollars games in a 10 dollar game...theres other games on the PSN that bring less modes and features than PAIN and also cost 9.99 stop complaning...

Posted on 11.25.07 02:35 AM by Captain-Fury

These characters should be free since they come with the initial product purchase. They're in the menu and should not come at an additional cost. I don't mind buying new characters down the road, but these two are in the menu system right when the game is purchased. It's fine if they weren't ready to "put into the game" but once they could be added, they should be at no cost to those of us that purchased the game within the first week. Any future characters could jsut as well be pay DLC. If these characters weren't in the menu system, they I wouldn't have a problem with it, but they're portrayed as included by being there, and therefore, should be.

Posted on 11.25.07 03:10 AM by XxBigP123xX

nice to see i paid 11 dollars for a demo. You'd think we'd more than the level we saw months ago. What have the developers been doing all this time?

Posted on 11.25.07 03:10 AM by SuperSonic1305

online please, and i think this online upgrade should be free.... and why this game didnt came out on UK psstore??? and 1 dollar per character is a bit too much i think,2 for 1$ would be better... and please release in UK store....

Posted on 11.25.07 03:28 AM by Peter

Appreciate the feedback, however this game should have had online multiplayer from the beginning. You have come as close as is possible to misleading us without actually promising it! NOT GOOD!

Posted on 11.25.07 03:38 AM by The_Dark_Knight

Travis,

I noticed a glitch that freezes the game completely. It happened on 3 different occasions to me and I was unable to unfreeze it. When you detonate a bomb at the exact point that the timer hits zero your game freezes and you have to hard reset your system. I found this glitch while attempting to unlock ED. Please fix this glitch in a future update... I dont like hard resetting my system. Thank you for listening... and for a downloadable content... how bout a Nathan Drake Skin...

Thanks,
Chris

for the people complaining SHUT UP go buy go sports ski. yes they have online but it sucks $1 for 2 is better but they said that they are working on the online not bring it NOW and hello hello if they send it back for more work to be done WILL RESULT IN DELAYS!!!!!! do you want PAIN to come out in 2008 or 9 !!!! DAMN THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE

Posted on 11.25.07 04:49 AM by elprimodebklyn

Get me a Helghast(Killzone) character and I'll purchase it immediately. Smile

Anyhow, good job getting the issue resolved.

Posted on 11.25.07 04:59 AM by Clinton514

I think the game is great and don't mind paying for the add-ons. C'mon the game itself only cost $10. However there is a limit to how much myself and others will be willing to shell out. Some of the content should be free as well. The only suggestion I have is that it would be nice if in the multi-player game that both(or all) the players didn't have to use the same character. The variety would really make it more entertaining, it is really kind of boring watching the same character with the same poses over and over again.

Posted on 11.25.07 05:17 AM by Ira_Tarded

Interesting concept here, keep up with the creative juices flowing.

This game will be sure to please this coming holiday season 08

Well Done Guys

Posted on 11.25.07 05:24 AM by choochie

great game, i dont mind paying a 99 cents for a character, i mean the game was $10, please hear me out on the custom soundtracks, it would make the game that much better

Posted on 11.25.07 06:08 AM by bgj887

Travis,

Love the physics!! Been playing for a couple hours today and I have to add on to my previous comment and congratulate you and your team for a really high-quality game.

Even though there's only one level, there's so much freakin stuff to do! (ex - go into the vent in the subway and it shoots you back up top) So much stuff packed into a single level!

Think about adding custom tracks please!

Posted on 11.25.07 06:12 AM by ToN

I can't believe everyone is complaining about $10. You all probably go out and spend more money at Arby's for Pete's sake! You're not blowing half of your college fund here. It's a lot of game for the money.

Also, if they released a demo for a smaller PSN game you would all be typing "I played that in the demo, I'm not paying for it" and then how do they make any money?

Posted on 11.25.07 06:36 AM by DementedMonkey

Any chance we could possibly get these seasonal characters free since theyre only seasonal and because we didnt have a demo to test the game out first? Or how about this, cause we know Sony's online will eventually be better than XBL and we know minor stuff will be free.... right? :-D

cmon guys, cut us some slack, we're your first purchasers of the game, cant we get something free first?

Posted on 11.25.07 06:37 AM by Mustang_Man*

Look at XBL Arcade... those games are $10 and they are so much simpler and uglier than Pain... I mean come on - they're just flash games or ancient arcade games made to work on an emulator. I know, let's play some UNO!

We want new, innovative games, we bitch constantly about how there is nothing unique coming out... at least Sony isn't shoveling all those crap titles on us.

Having said that, I think Pain will make a fantastic party game... I can't wait for online multiplayer for when I don't have friends over.

Keep it coming Sony, this will probably be the best $12 I've ever spent on a brand new game.

Posted on 11.25.07 07:10 AM by John

Online play will be greatly appreciated. My PS3 is not set up as a party system and it will be awesome to finally be able to try out the co-op games.

That said, I really enjoyed the game, short though it is. I am a little disappointed that I will have to purchase Santa, but as long as the price point is reasonable, I don't mind.

Posted on 11.25.07 07:21 AM by cyau723

Hey i dont kno if anyone noticed but in the game theres a add on to PAIN that says "indoor amusement park, available only fom the playstation store." hope it comes out soon

I read a comment from someone on the development team that said: ONLINE PLAY

Posted on 11.25.07 07:37 AM by DrueFedo

An online multi-player add-on would be very nice.

Posted on 11.25.07 08:12 AM by MelodicEnmity

This game is great and I have lot of fun playing it. The starting price.. I have nothing to complain. But the fact that some people call this game a demo is not far from reality. If you notice, there is plenty of room for adding new levels and new charaters to the game inside all the selection page (the area page, character page, type of game page). and it seems to me that for 10$ it's a little bit thin... Not thin enough to keep me from buying the game but thin enough to annoy me a little bit. If my speculations a good, I will probably end up, maybe in a year with a game price (including the initial price plus several addons) of nearly 60$... And at 60$, I won't have any game case or game disk or instruction booklet. So It will be a bit expensive for a downloadable game... Added to that the fact that us, canadian gamers, have to pay an extra 1$ for each thing sell in the PS Store, regardless of the fact that ou r Canadian Dollar is actually higher or pretty much near the value of the US Dollar... THIS is really UNFAIR... so you see, I guess you (our American neighbors) guys will pay maybe .50$ for each of those X-mas, when canadian customers will have to buy them for 1.50 $ each... Pretty UNFAIR.

But don't get me wrong about the quality of your game ideas, PAIN concept is great! It just that I feel a little bit been cheated about those 2 X-mas charaters. Because for the first one who bought this game on day one, the message we got form the games was more like a bug than a showcase of extra character I could buy.

And for everybody, think about this... XBL maybe have a demo for each game they release in their marketplace, but don't forget that they are charging for the use of their network, something that Sony doesn't. Until Sony release Home, they have no other way to pay for the network maintnance. If i'm right, when ads will be inserted inside Home virtual world, maybe Sony will lower their online price or even give little add-ons like extra characters of PAIN... Hey... wait a minute... It would be fun to be able to use our Home character to play PAIN and It would also solve the problem of using same characters for PAIN future online gaming.

Keep up the good work

Posted on 11.25.07 08:12 AM by Jean-Francois

how do u justify winin bout a $10. it's flingin a dude to break stuff in a city environment. we all like breakin things. would certain car games be as much fun if u didn't crash?get over it. don't like it,fine.the game delivers on exactly what it is. gt didn't let u drag race in the past. did we return it cause it was incomplete?i didn't. and now for something slightly different:an online and custom soundtrack patch would be "good times" .peaz .:-{>

Posted on 11.25.07 08:31 AM by imnme

A lot of people are winning about the cost of this game. I think the cost is perfect. Most PS3 games cost $60. This game is fun and addicting! I love this game so much that I would pay another $10 for a new level. Bring us more DLC! Also characters from other publishers would be awesome! I would love to inflict PAIN on final fantasy or marvel characters!

Posted on 11.25.07 10:28 AM by lo key

Travis you said on blog you felt the price was justified. Which from my perpspective you couldn't have been more wrong. This is a rip off at 10 dollars. Surprised at Sony for trying to rip people off with those extra characters. All 4 characters being in the stinking game from the start would have helped to justify a little. Right now this is just a small tech demo for ragdoll physics that Sony is going to use to squeeze every last penny they can out of everyone. Nice job on no leaderboards as well. I was sure I read something about that a few months ago. I feel greatly ripped off.

Posted on 11.25.07 11:24 AM by Neon Reaver

One level was a thorough disappointment... anybody trying to call downtown 2 levels because of the slight changes present in aftermath mode is asinine. I'm upset about the prospect of having to pay for new levels when there was only a single level @ launch. The game is a lot of fun & doesn't really have an issues aside from the lacking content {like levels... I advise that you people stray from whatever was being smoked when that decision was made... one F%&#*NG level? has anything even launched w/ 1 F%&#*NG level since before sega genesis? before you people dropped the ball on this one?}

Posted on 11.25.07 12:42 PM by Faux_Smoke

I'm amazed at all the wining about price and game length. For $10 you get 6 decent mini games in one environment. I don't want to knock other games I enjoy, but Every Day Shooter is one mini-game in six environments (and has no multiplayer) which cost me $15. Don't get me started on how little content $5 got me with Go! Skii. Given those titles, Pain is downright generous with the content.

For the "OMG We'll be nickel and dimed to death" crowd. Would you really rather pay the money up front for content you may or may not enjoy. Pain allows us to spend only as much as we want on the game. Don't like Santa, don't buy it.

R1 pilot said, "These characters should be free since they come with the initial product purchase."

In actuality, Santa and Cookie didn't come with the game. When you buy them, you download them. Its not pre-packaged content. The Devs were nice enough to allow us to buy new content from within the game. I think that is a great feature.

I've already bought both santa and cookie. They are blast. Well worth the piddling $2 for the voice acting alone. I would love to see a new character every month or so.

Keep up the great work Sony and IdolMinds. This is a fantastic game, I am really happy to have purchased. I can't wait for more content, and online multi-player support.

I seriously can't believe all the crying and whining here. Have you guys even played the game yet? I've already racked up 20 hours on this thing. That's 50 cents per hour of entertainment so far. Have you played HORSE? Have you played Mime Toss? Have you tried bowling? Have you tried to get some of the harder trophies? Ya there's only one level, but there's so much to try and do in that one level that this game has more depth than some $60 games I've bought. Plus it's FUN. Games are supposed to be FUN, remember?

p.s. 1:53:91 on Mime Toss. Beat THAT! lol

I am surprised at how much of you cant accept creative diffrence amongst peoples opinions, i for one this the game looks nice but the whole gamming idea is crap, you people whom say you enjoy this game must be mentally challenged along with the brain crippled moron whom decided upon letting this idea fly, seriously how can you find this amusing i am actually disgusted by Playstation for making such a stupid game, next they should come out with a game were we can shoot our selves, only need one bulllet & a gun for complete set, hell i didnt imagine they would charge 10 bucks for pile of @#*$... i feel stupid just for playing this game, congrats Playstation you found a new way of getting pasted the bar standred cant get over why not pass under...this is crap... thank you & hope rest of you enjoy ya game.

Ummm.....where exactly are the leaderboards????

Posted on 11.25.07 23:53 PM by The_Dark_Knight

Wow - was just skimming through some of this negative feedback. Yikes.
PAIN is a masterpiece! Amazing! Masterpiece! I DL Santa and Cookie right away. This is the mindless stress-relief I need. The potential here is mind-boggling. I'm ready to pay $100 for an off the shelf Pain! More cities/more graphics/more avatars/build your own avatar - like say, in SKATE/snapshots/videos - ya know, captures like in Skate.
You could have giant-head avatars and I could just build my boss's head and sling that around the city.
This game to me has as much potential as Guitar Hero - mashing buttons on a toy guitar? Don't get me wrong - GH is such a [party] phenomenon - I've arranged to receive GH3 as a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law.
But back to PAIN. This is genius! I woke up this morning with the theme-song in my head and now I'm tossing my Cookie all over town. When I'm done typing this - I'm going to see if I can beat my Monkey-Spanking record with Cookie.
I don't know about all this "death of us all and the industry" crap (interesting theory for maybe a college-level classroom discussion with your favorite professor) but I'm not 12 years old and I will INSTANTLY purchase any and all, upcoming PAIN content.
I payed $60 for Ratchet and Clank and finished that game TWICE in less time than I have already been playing PAIN.
Waiting for GTA and Little Big Planet and, I guess, HOME just became a LOT easier.
Idolminds, I praise you. Seriously!
I want to work for you. I want to test for you. I want to give you feedback.
More cities! More subway tunnels! More cars! more construction! Slingshot me over this city in to, say, the suburbs! I want to blow up my boss's house! Giving you guys more ideas? I was a Lightwave artist for a while. Ran a site/forum called 3D Fight Club.
I'm Bones3DFC on PS Network.
Buzz me.
Pain is the best.
Pain is the best download the PS Store ever had.
I need more PAIN.
I live for PAIN!

Posted on 11.25.07 23:56 PM by Bones3DFC

You've made a badassed game, but it could be much more so with online multiplayer. Actually you REALLY need online multiplayer. As in, online multiplayer should already be in the game. Thanks so much for making this creative type of game. I bought Santa and Cookie just to throw you guys a bone.

I wish there was a special achievement for knocking out letters on the hotel to spell "HOT ORAL SEX" as an homage to "Revenge of the Nerds 2".

Posted on 11.26.07 01:11 AM by Galley

I hope the new online multi-player feature/add-on is FREE! For some reason I was expecting that feature (and more content) for the price. All well, it is what is. Best of luck with future games.

Posted on 11.26.07 01:55 AM by h3rb1x

I like the game so far, but I have some suggestions/requests, and I'm sure many members would agree.

-You guys are milking the metaphorical cash cow. We just layed down $10 for the game, and we only get one level and two characters. Then you tell us we need to pay $1 for each new character? That's cruel. You just released the game, and people aren't going to be interested if they see you intend on milking them of money just to get the full experience.

-One thing that I would absolutely love is a video replay save feature, or a screen capture feature. I've had tons of great moments, and would love to save a video or picture of them onto my HDD.

Those are really my only things to ask for, everything else is excellent. Great work and hope to see y'all on the scoreboards.

Posted on 11.26.07 02:46 AM by AKskillz

I'd really, really like to see other people's replays on the game.

ToN mentioned the vent in the subway - I had no idea this existed, and now that I've shot through it I'm managed to break the 2 million points barrier twice! I'm sure there are tons of secrets like that, and I'd love to see how people are getting over TWENTY million points. Wow!

Just bought Santa and Cookie - only $0.50 more ($1.49) in the Canadian store.

I had a bunch of buddies over last night for our last game night before finals and we tried Pain. Oh my god! We all agreed that this was the best party game we've ever played. ROFLAO!!!

Our favorite mode was Bowling. One of us would launch at these giant bowling pins and then everyone else would try to blow him out of the sky! Absolute mayhem.

My favorite was when my buddy was ooching along the road and I dropped this giant girder right on his head! LOVE IT!!!!

This is easily the best $10 I've ever spent on a game.

Posted on 11.26.07 04:41 AM by El Hefe

The game is fun...but having to pay .99 for each Character?

Sucks to find out that it was NOT a bug, NOT an error…just a sneaky move.

(Any chance this is related to the ‘nickel-and-dime’ comment from Dylan Jobe (Warhawk)? “Not be some nickel-and-dime upgrade that takes advantage of our player community!!! (That’s my own personal opinion on DLC so I’ll get off my soapbox now)”

Akskillz everyone is saying there is only two characters on launch. The game is really starting to show it's weakness now. I've already hit everything there is to be hit in downtown.

I haven't gotten Cookie or Santa yet, but that still won't make downtown any more new. If there would have been 4 characters for free, 2 levels for free, and online I don't think there would no where as much complaining.

Posted on 11.26.07 06:34 AM by Neon Reaver

There seems to be leaderboards, so my apologies about those complaints.

Posted on 11.26.07 08:11 AM by Neon Reaver

NEED NEW MAPS!!

(highlight/underline *NEED*)

you sold us an incomplete game, which in my eyes is unfair.
I mean seriously 1 damn level 1 character and an unlockable? come on!

we need updates....FAST!

Posted on 11.26.07 11:02 AM by Sam

To developers,

I just want to say I love your game, I would love online play as everybody else would and I didn't care about the 10 dollars and the 2 extra characters I bought them right away, In a sense there is 2 levels the normal one and the aftermath which makes it very more difficult to pull off some new scores. I would of loved to see another level besides the original and the aftermath level, and as my bother and I were saying that theres plenty of space on those menus to add plenty of new content!! I would of loved to hear the menu song of PAIN in the game. Also to see something like new goals in the game would be cool, like say you have to hit the old lady while getting down to the subway and getting back out to to the other side to hit the crates behind the slingshot, something in that sense. Just my two cents!

thanks
deathw

Posted on 11.26.07 11:09 AM by brandon

I'm also upset at the amount of content in this game. I mean $10 isn't much, but I would think there'd be more to this game than this. I was so looking forward to this game, now I feel robbed. To pay for what would amount to a demo, and then nickel and dime for characters/maps is just wrong. If it stays like this where the add on content is pay, I can say for sure that I'll only be playing one level with the two characters that it comes with. Paying any more money for things in this game is unreasonable and wrong.

Posted on 11.26.07 11:11 AM by gamegenieny

I have an idea for some trophies:
Spelling/Making things!
ie. Hotel Coral Essex becomes "Hot Oral Sex"
ie. Break all of the Doctor's fingers except for his middle one.
ie. Make the "Bowling" sign say "Bong"
Maybe not, but I think they'd be clever trophies.

Posted on 11.26.07 12:27 PM by phampok

Why all the fuss about only one level? The game just came out two days ago. Give them a chance to get them ready. They had to make sure people would play it before they spent any of their money. People should think before they cry about it.

Posted on 11.26.07 13:34 PM by adamthewarrior

Why all the fuss? Since they only have one level word of mouth could easily get around and help people not play it, but is it too little for too much. I've already been trying to sway people from getting it for now. If it had two levels then I would be trying to sell people on the game.

Posted on 11.26.07 13:43 PM by Neon Reaver

people, how do u get so big scores 6-26million??? i really cant see how is that possible!!!

Posted on 11.26.07 13:45 PM by Peter

How come the characters are not included in the game as it is? These characters should be free for download, I mean the game already costs too much as it is. It should of been $4.99. I can go to the store and buy a full length game for $9.99.

If your planning on making online multiplayer purchasable, then you better get ready for an angry attack of PAIN players. Then you will feel the PAIN, unfortunately.

Posted on 11.26.07 14:03 PM by StuntF50

Weak! What a lame way to rip people off of more money for two stupid characters. While I'm loving the game...one word: WEAK.

And if you want online play purchasable, I just might give up completely and fight for a refund.

Posted on 11.26.07 14:29 PM by VixDiesel

online multiplayer would rock! i also think custom soundtracks would be nice.

i love what you've given us!

1 level was a thorough disappointment, though, more over than that, the prospect of being charged for another level is disenchanting. I can't think of a console game that's launched with a single level since the sega genesis was still in it's prime... & really, this is the only complaint I have to make about this game. I don't want to have to pay for a new level when you people launched w/ a measly single map.

I could care less about cookie & santa costing a buck a pop, I could care less about online multiplayer...

Call it a theme if you want, but the fact is that we want new ones... & beyond that, we don't want to be charged for them when there wasn't much to begin with.

Posted on 11.26.07 16:31 PM by Faux_Smoke

Ok, after 24 hours, and actually ponying up the 2 bucks for the 2 new characters, but I'm Still TICKED that I had to buy em still even though we all know its BS that we have to pay for more characters, and the game is short per se, and limited.
OF COURSE, I HOPE AND I PRAY, THAT YOU REALLY WON'T CHARGE US FOR NEW LEVELS. THAT WOULD BE ADDING INSULT TO INJURY. PLEASE DO NOT CHARGE US, NOT 5, 10+, BUCKS FOR NEW LEVELS!!!!! DON'T YOU DARE DO THAT!
But I see it already. YOUR all ready thinking this. Sitting in your office having a meeting, and telling everyone that the reaction has been extremely positive, they love it. They love the idea, the 1 liners, the damage, everything. But the negatives are, they are not happy that they paid 10 bucks basically for what they call a demo version. Aren't happy because the other characters should have been in the game, but now they have to pay for them, There is only one level, and the options are limited. They want online multi player badly.
So were gotta start working on the Online multi player right away. Also we have to create more levels. Now the big thing is the price. Now to justify the price of it, we have to make at least 10 more levels. If we charge them say, 5 bucks a level, they would be basically buying a complete game just like if they went to the store and bought it, but they download it. And their's your 60 bucks, and a full game........

IT's bad enough you release a game, that a we all can agree is incomplete. As per your 1 level, 1 character, and a couple other game modes. But NOW your working on On-line Multi Player???? You should have done that BEFORE you released it too us.,
It's been 24 hours, and i have played probably 15-16 hours of it. After about 10 hours, I finally played Mime Toss and Monkey. UNreal..lol....LOVE IT...Yeah I love it. But it is DEMO. If you come out with a game, it has only has 1 Level, only 1 character with 2 you can now buy, and 3 game modes, it's a demo. Just like all the demo's in the Playstation store.
....Oh and I may have had a glich.. I got rocketed into the sky until i he disappeared for a good 20 seconds, I evidently did not break 350K feet in the air.. which i find hard to believe
.. but it was cool being called a super hero lol

PS, I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME HELP HERE...
1-How do you unlock AFTERCHOCK? or whatever the next level is called..lol
2- IS THAT WHERE THE BOWLING IS?
3- HOW THEY HELL YA SCORING 6 MILLION PLUS?

Posted on 11.26.07 17:23 PM by Hello Hello

Like it sez I think on this site this game was conceived by MARKETING people and made by devs... as with most marketers who can't see the forest for the trees they couldn't let a (unoriginal but) good idea mature on its own and they had to nearly ruin it with a MARKETING/SALES accessory scheme. I say nearly cause it's still a great game. But it was worth about exactly 10 bucks, or would be if you threw in the characters that should be there but aren't.
If it had had online and the 2 DLC characters native with the download, it would have been worth 20 bucks. SCEA should think about that... they'll make at most a couple extra bucks per copy sold this way, and if an online multi is sold it will make next to zilch, since the game will already be months old.
This may be how companies make money over the holidays, but SCEA has been doing it all year and getting worse. Veteran, adult console users like me DON'T LIKE it. PC games aren't sold in bits and pieces, and DLC for consoles shouldn't be either.

Posted on 11.26.07 23:12 PM by Kozmonot

Great game it's more then just launching a guy from a slingshot. Have a lot of fun playing it and can't wait for more content.

PS, i hit over a million points already, it would be nice to have highest scores posted on this site.

@Hello Hello
1.You unlock Aftershock mode by scoring over 1.5 million in PAINdemonium.

2.No, the Bowling mode is multiplayer-only, as well as HORSE and Fun with Explosives.

3.The world may never know.

I agree with two posts up. Those two characters and an extra venue wouldnt have been all that hard to throw in there and they couldve charged 15-20 bucks for the thing, and it wouldve been worth it. Its because Idol Minds is "nickel and Diming" the community thats pissed everyone off. The majority of the replys on the blog about the gaming coming out, was filled with happy, OMG i want the game positive comments. Since they announced content you have to pay for ALREADY.... everyones in an uproar and no body has commented about what theyre going to do to fix this. Dont get me wrong i love the game to pieces, but i feel like i was gipped and that overall doesnt leave a good feeling in my gut.
Besides, DLC already? the game just came out!!! DLC is for games that get boring later on and they need to release things to spice them up. Like Resistance, they waited before they released content. Truth is, it should be content included and then release content later on. like, months later on... not a day.

BTW since i own the game, some day id like to be able to chuck santa into a bunch of elves in say the north pole. and an FYI, i wont pay anymore money for additional content, unless its as thorough and plentiful at resistance or warhawk content. i got 4 resistance maps for 7.99 and even then, 6.99 wouldve looked better...

we need BLOOD! Guys..that would be so awesome.. if your gonna add in real physics, you gotta add blood some how... granted this is cartoon fun, and falling 100 ft will break bones, now im not looking for bones to be poppin out all over.. which would be kinda cool.. but having some blood effects would be cool..get points based on blood loss, or splatter patterns...
And if somenoe can again, PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET OVER 6 MILL. POINTS, WOULD BE APPRECIATED....
FINALLY.. if anyone wants to PLAY ONLINE(when they come out with it for PAIN), or on Call of Duty 4,

-Video Replay Saves/Send
-Screen capture during video replay

P.S.
Online play would be truly appreciated

Posted on 11.27.07 15:01 PM by Pee_Wee

I CANNOT STAND hearing everyone whine and moan.

Seriously, let break this down:

-This game costs 9.99.
-A brand-new, full-priced game at Wal-Mart costs 59.99 plus tax.

-This game has given me AT LEAST 15 hours of fun and entertainment solo and with friends SO FAR, and will continue to for many, many more hours.
-That's .67 cents an hour. Pretty cheap entertainment if you ask me, and the more I play, the cheaper it gets.

-For a full priced game to equal this in value, it would have to provide AT LEAST 90 hours of fun. I don't know about you, but I haven't played the same game for 90 hours in a long, long time.

Paying five dollars for some new features and a level or two is not a bad deal by ANY standard! It only improves the quality of this package!

This is proof that people will complain about anything.

Posted on 11.27.07 16:15 PM by Omnidoom

This game is pretty sweet and the physics are awesome. I just wish I could score higher than I usually do. I just unlocked 'Aftermath', and it was almost impossible doing so. It would be great if there was some way to work out a way to have online matches and smash stuff up with a stranger.

Omnidoom, you're freaking right

Posted on 11.27.07 18:41 PM by Pee_Wee

I wish all of you crybabies would stop calling this game a demo. 6 playable characters, 2 levels(aftermath is a remix), 6 game modes. I spent $60 on games with less content than this.(Sega Rally Revo being a prime example...) This game has kept me and my three brothers more than WWE SVR2008 and Madden 08 combined. If you don't like it, than don't play it. Crawl back to your Halo 3.

This is the first game on the PS3 that my wife has ANY interest in. I finally went out to buy a 2nd controller so we could play HORSE.

When she does not feel like playing, however, it would be VERY cool to be able to play online.

Great Job, and I love all the Big Lebowski references. Nice to see some achievers writing cool software.

Posted on 11.27.07 20:19 PM by w00tMINI

Ok, I gotta say, I really liked the game, but yet, it is small, short, and this thing about have to pay 0.99 for the other two characters is a sneak move. Why? It is a big deal having them for free? We already paid 9.99 for the game right? Tsc tsc tsc.

Also, I have no idea how to unlock Paindemonium. Someone help? Please?

Posted on 11.27.07 21:16 PM by AndrePeniche

Complain that there is not enough content for your $9.99, and then ask how to unlock Aftershock. Priceless.

You'd pay $20 for 2 levels and Santa and Cookie?! That would mean the extra level would cost you $8. So no complaining if the next level costs $8. After all, you told them how much you were willing to pay.

At first all the complaining was maiking me sad for the lads and ladies at Idol Minds, but now I'm wondering if it isn't just there for my entertainment. Some of these comments are just hilarious.

Keep up the good work!

Posted on 11.27.07 22:46 PM by daglo

Why does everyone keep calling Aftermath "Aftershock"? Also adam thewarrior there is only 2 playable characters from the start and 1 level. No matter how many more barrels you put down or rearrange the crane it's still downtown.

Also Omnidoom if you can't stand reading whining and moaning why do you continue to read it? If a person goes off into a moaning rant just skip it. All you're doing is complaining about complaing.

Posted on 11.28.07 11:27 AM by makeyougohmm.com

This is to: Neon Reaver
I know what the game starts with, cuz I play it. I am only saying that the game is not a demo. And I never said that aftermath wasn't the same place, I said it was a remix. And there are 4 playable characters to start. The cow, Jarvis, Ice Tea, and the bowling pro. You people just can't stand you have to unlock 3 of them and buy two of them. If all you people pay for DLC on other games, why is it a problem on this one? Still the game is addictive and it does have 6 game modes. If that isn't something that intrests you than don't play it. There is no reason to cry about it.

Posted on 11.28.07 11:59 AM by adam_thewarrior

Nobody really has a problem paying for DLC. As evident there's been a thousand 99 cent Motorstorm cars and skins for cars added and nobody has complained at least not to my knowledge.

The only reason the complaints are rolling in so much on this game is, because it offers so little from the start. Just saying if you don't have an extra controller or a friend over to play. Then you can only play 3 modes. Also Ice Tea is not a different character. It's Jarvis in different clothes.

As I've been saying if this game could have been more complete with 4 characters from the start for free and 2 levels for free. Then I don't think anybody would be complaining about the lack of content or having to pay for more.

Posted on 11.28.07 13:15 PM by Neon Reaver

I think an extra character for what the average person pays for a large coffee is not bad. As long as new levels or game modes aren't as much as the initial game itself. Motorstorm gives quite a lot for $2.99 new tracks and cars and skins etc. I'm hoping the same for Pain.
I thought that there might be some trophy for knocking off the "c" and the "e,s" on the Coral Essex Hotel...? Maybe I just have to knock off the "tel".
I think it's a clever idea to be able to navigate replays freely, so that we can read all those funny signs.
I really hope the Indoor Amusement Park comes bundled with new game modes and charachters.
I also think just adding new objects and pedestrians to the same level could make it endlessly replayable.
I don't know what it would take to make a level edit mode, but that would be interesting too, especially if you could trade with friends. Maybe that's a little far fetched for a $10 game though.
I think some good charachters to have would be a Ridiculously whiny complaining and foul mouthed Fanboy.
A massively obese person (I think the blubber animation would be awesome!).
An incredibly slick and sleazy lawyer.
And a giant hand grenade with arms and legs(that explodes obviously).
Hope some of these are implemented, but if not oh well...

Okay, how about these for additional trophies?

CHAIN SMOKER:
Land inside all three factory smokestacks in one launch.

SHE WILL IF YOU LETTER
Use the hotel letters to spell "Hot Oral Sex."

ENEMY MIME:
Without hitting the Mime, spook him into traffic to cause a major pile-up.

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE:
Bring down both the bowling ball and the gas tank sphere on the factory roof.

DONUT WHOLE:
Launch yourself through the donut without knocking it over.

CEREAL KILLER:
Start an explosive chain reaction using only the cereal spoon.

COOKIE CUTTER:
Launch Cookie through three or more plate glass windows at once.

POTTY TRAINED (Aftermath):
Derail the subway train by knocking the port-a-potty into its path.

I was pretty surprised to see no trophy for leaping through that doughnut.

I love this game! I have already convinced 3 more of my friends to buy it. All who have a problem with paying for content are ignorant and ungreatfull. We are lucky to have the privilage to add replay to our games. I don't care about santa, but in future I'll buy whatever they add. Think of it this way. You complain about delayed games because they are unfished on time. Well this game is playable while it's being finished. In the long run this game may offer so much DLC that it's cost will equal 60 bucks and then some.

Posted on 11.29.07 07:28 AM by inkerjay

Actually yeah I was surprised to see no trophy involving the Donut hole as well.

Posted on 11.29.07 08:20 AM by Neon Reaver

A giant basketball hoop somewhere would be great as well. It's pretty fun shooting the characters into dumpsters. I'd love to be able to lauch and hit a bomb and then ooch on over into the goal.

Everyone,

I am working on a new Blog post that will be up soon. It will contain info about what is coming next. YES some of it is FREE. Some of it isn’t. But everyone should enjoy the update once it is released. In the meantime here are a few responses to some of your comments/questions.

In General: We told everyone before that when we launched PAIN it was just the start. Stick around to see what we do next. Hehehe. Some of this is influenced by the boards here. We are paying attention. Just remember suggestions work better than flames… which brings me to “HELLO HELLO”

*Ahem*

Hey man… Trust me when I say the last thing you want is my complete and undivided attention. I have a whole development team with a talent for satire. Yadig?

Trophy Ideas: Some of your trophy ideas are quite cool. Android I will see what I can do about yours. Those might not make it in but they have got us thinking about some cool trophies. Remember we’re TEEN rated so I can’t make trophies for some of the crazy things you guys might think up.

Online: Okay… message received. When I have more solid info I will tell you the plan.
More later. Just wanted to drop by and let everyone know the team is reading the messages. You will start to hear from more of the team soon.

Oh, and here’s two gameplay hints..

Did you know you can grab after you hit something? Blowing up and holding on to the wall I just slammed into is one of my favorite tricks.

Try grabbing the ground and Ooching in a different direction.

Peace,

Posted on 11.29.07 09:12 AM by travis williams

Oh one more hint... Pressing R3 resets your camera. Highly Useful.

Posted on 11.29.07 09:19 AM by travis williams

Very creative, Android66!

I've got another:

THE GREAT ESCAPE:

Shoot through the first store on the right, out the back door (reserved for police raids, lol), down the stairs and into a train.

Posted on 11.29.07 09:25 AM by Omnidoom

Travis,

How about a create your own character mode or level creator/editor.

As for level ideas, what about doing some famous places like Stone Henge or Easter Island

And for a different mode of play, what a total destruction mode. where you try and break everything on the map and get the highest score (not from each launch but all your launches)

Posted on 11.29.07 18:07 PM by PhoenixCE

oh yes...forgot to add. It would be great to be able to launch some of the characters we have seen from around the first level ie. the old woman, police officers, construction workers etc. oh yeah, the monkey too Tong )

Posted on 11.29.07 18:12 PM by PhoenixCE

Hey, I found a really good review of the game at GamesRadar... they gave the game a 9! I completely agree with their review. This game is so worth $10.

Travis,

What a great game you guys have made. I love it. Me and my friend played it yesterday and had a blast. I also like the fact that you guys are actually reading and responding to feedback that is being given to you on here. So seeing that I have a suggestion for a possible game mode. Ok so here is my proposal.

Remember that old Qbasic way back when called gorillaz? Well if you dont basically it was a game where 2 players would play head to head and their gorillas would be strategically placed and you would take turns trying to hit each other with a banana at each other by inputting the velocity and angle to throw the banana. And the wind would play a factor to. Well I was thinking you could do something similar to this. You would have each player pick a location within the city. Once they selected their position player would start and it would have say Jarvis in the slingshot ready to go. The user moves the slingshot and aims at the other player and then pulls back the slingshot to the desire length and then releases jarvis at the target. The drift controls would be locked and jarvis would fly towards the other player. Say he doesn't hit the other player. His slingshot keeps the same position but now it ios the players turn. And this would go back and forth until someone is hit by the other player. Round 1 would be over. Then the players would get to pick another set up spot with in the city. You could have it be best of 3 or 5 or whatever. You may not have to lock the drift thaty much because I am sure people will be creative with there spots. Maybe make it so the other player could only select a spot so many yards away from the other players spot. This would take the game to a whole new level of fun.

Can you imagine having pick a spot that you think will be impossible to get hit and the othe rplayer has to be creative and say shoot himself 30 yards to the left to hit a gas tank and then ooch his way in the air to land on another explosive and then to hang on a pole and ooch himself around it and swing himself into a building which bounces him off and he falls ontop of your set up. It could be alot of fun.

Also someone could think they might be picking a great spot and then after the next player picks a spot out in the open and the first player comes to find out his spot is horrible because he has to shoot straight up or has horrible option to shoot at because he was trying to be slick while the other person can shoot and make a combo and hit his guy.

I know that was long but I could see this being extremly fun mode. If you have any other question email me or ask me on this board.

Thanks and again great work guys looking foward to the new stuff.

Wow, all I can say is wow. I can't wait to see new levels, and online play. I really enjoy this game and the use of ragdoll physics. I also enjoy the jokes on billboards the refection of the glass on Hotel Coral Essex... etc. Keep up the good work.

Posted on 11.30.07 01:10 AM by Sean

This is from FARRRRRR the best PSN game. I bought flow, rampage and locorococoreco But Pain is the ONE. When I go in my PS3 menu and see Pain its just like OMG I must play. I can't wait for a new map and new characters. Its priceless to throw Santa on the grandma, I just wish more cool characters are coming, it would be cool to cause damage whit Darkvader, Nathan Hale or Ratchet.

Keep up the good work

And I have cool trophies idea like .

Hit And Run
Touch every characters in the level.

Who's Driving?
Blowing every car in the stage(Aftermath).

Up Up and away!
Throwing the grandma in the ventilation.

There's so many things you could do!!!

Online Will be GREAT can't wait

Posted on 11.30.07 01:55 AM by BumbiQc

Travis,

I must appology for my first comment (Jean-Francois). I was a bit frustrated about santa and Cookie but I went over it and realized as many said, that the 10 bucks (or 11 because I'm Canadian) I paid is probably the best invested 10 bucks I ever spend in my gamer's life. It's been lest thatn a week since PAIN was released and I didn't count them, but I' pretty sure that I spent more thant 5 times the play time in PAIN that I've done in Motorstorm... which cost me 35$ (used).

When I came back from work tonight, I was saying to my self... well, I've played only Pain for 5 days in a row, using only the single player mode, so I think I've pretty much done it all... Then, just by coming to the web site and reading people positive comments, new ideas and unofficial trophy challenges it just gave me an irrepressible urge to go play again PAIN!!!!!

Great work guy !!!! Looking foward to see your new PAIN add-ons!!!!

By the way, one or two little suggestions. It would be really nice to be able to go completlly through store windows (like the store juste beside the rail, near the donnut) I was really ammazed to be able to go through the front window and comming out by the store's back door!!! Smile

The other suggestion is regarding the online-multiplayer game feature. It would be really fu to have kind of tag-team challenges! Like on a huge map, one palyer would be the "starter" (inside the sling shot) and the other one, maybe in the air (like the mime toss) or on a collision activated sling shot. you could even have more than 2 player to create a massive chain reaction.!!!

Thank you for reading our comments and ideas.

Posted on 11.30.07 04:28 AM by Hedrakk

BTW, sorry for any gramatical errors or typo... I'm a Quebecer (French-Canadian) Smile

I hope you guys were able to understand me Smile bye!

Posted on 11.30.07 04:32 AM by Hedrakk

travis thanks for the continued dialogue. you and dylan jobe have set a great example for other game directors. i'm a sucker for small purchases and bought the 2 extra characters. you know i'll be buying whatever comes out next. hope it's fun and allows possibly for single player bowling practice or something.

Posted on 11.30.07 05:39 AM by StalkingSilence

$10? It's a steal. When you considering what movies, clubs, music, and other forms of entertainment costs, PAIN is a pretty good value. Also, I suspect that producing shorter, cheaper games with the option of purchasing additional characters and levels is going to allow game developers to take a lot more risks with game design. As far as I'm concerned, more creative risk taking by designers has to equal more gaming fun.

Besides, I haven't laughed this hard at a game since the original Carmageddon.

I just found out you can knock off the doctors fingers individually. There should be some trophies for all these combonations as well.

I LOVE THIS GAME! It's so addicting. I was playing it with my friends the other night and one of my girlfriends thought it would be funny if you had a sadomasochistic character dressed in leather chaps and a leather hat with a harness on. Kind of like what "Mr. Slave" wore on the show South Park. It would be funny to have him launch through a city kind of like San Francisco or an urban "gay" area. Instead of yelling out in PAIN, he would be groaning & moaning in pleasure from the pain. I think it's a funny idea and would definitely download that.

Posted on 12.01.07 04:24 AM by DJRippey

I just thought about a good game object you guys should add that would be hilarious "Bear traps" and I have a question If you guys finish the online play feature will you add more game mods and how many players are going to be able to play in 1 game 2,4,8 ???

Great piece of art guys

Thx Andrew for this hint I am looking forward to try it

Can't wait for DLC

Posted on 12.01.07 08:39 AM by BumbiQc

when this game will come out in europe??? the site is saying that game is out on 29nov,but its not saying anything about regions,so that is leading to think that worldwide, but no,its not out,so when then??? oh,really i dont care much, coz i did get it, although im living in UK,but lots of people would like this game...

Posted on 12.01.07 10:54 AM by Peter

Hey are Brock Lee and the candy bar going to be available for download? That guy is awesome! It would be cool to have him in a game similar to spank the monkey only with kung fu moves and evil candy bars!
I also thought that having a Pit bull that bites instead of grabbing would be funny. And to have him say stuff like "I love you" in a Scoobie-doo voice, as he bites someones head.
By the way I'm tottaly addicted to this game!
Hope that there is more for download tomorrow!

Posted on 12.01.07 11:37 AM by Andrew

Hey guys I have a few character ideas for pain the first one is an amnesia patient who thinks he is indestructible and dresses up in a superhero outfit, the second a maniacle doctor like on the billbord except with spiked white hair, my final character is fat cop that says stuff like why couldn't I just eat a dohnut. That would be hilarious

Posted on 12.01.07 14:32 PM by Gage

How about being able to set fires with explosions? After hitting a tank, or a crate, you could set nearby things on fire? (A flaming mime or mascot running around ablaze would be pretty cool.) I also like some of the ideas these others have posted. That whole smokestack trophy deal is probably the best one, so far. (I have a tough enough time just landing in two of 'em in one launch.) And what's the deal with the trophy for flying across the city? Has anyone else encountered this problem? I've tried virtually every angle, and I can't seem to make it. Anyways, I'm still diggin' this game, and still looking to max out my high score. Keep the good stuff comin', or I'll come crashing through your window, Travis!

Posted on 12.01.07 15:12 PM by Big_Balls

@Heddrak: I take it all in stride. I work with passionate opinionated people all day. Most of the time people post because they care. I just get a bit sore at the flamers. We’re cool

@StalkingSilence: Thanks. Most of the time people just want to be heard. That includes myself.

@Tommy: We are working on the “rides” for the Amusement Park now. Trust me this next theme is just wacky. More wacked out than Downtown.

@DJRippy: What do you want the gimp in the game? Haha. I thought the gimp was asleep.

@Peter: We are working with Europe now. I will have word soon.

@Andrew: You haven’t seen the last of KungFu master BROC-LEE! Trust me.

@Big Balls: Hmmmm fire sounds like a good idea. Lemme see what I can do with that.

I haven’t forgotten I owe you guys an update. It’s coming I promise.

Posted on 12.01.07 16:06 PM by travis williams

YES! Bring out the gimp! That would be perfect Travis!

This is Andrew again. I noticed Santa is spinning a ninja. Is this another clue as to some future multiplayer game, ninja toss? I also wanted to ask all the other Pain addicts how they are getting up to 44 million points in Aftermath? I find it hard to get over 1.5! Thanks again Travis and dev team for this great game!

Posted on 12.02.07 11:35 AM by MonkeyFox

@Travis

You guys have done a great job with PAIN, keep up the great work. The game doesn't feel like a demo. I've stayed up way too late playing this game the last couple of nights for it to be just a demo. People who complain about paying for characters and levels are just those types who think they are entitled to have everything they want.

Don't let the haters grind you down!

I do have a character suggestion after watching Pirates of the Caribbean. A pirate with 2 peg legs would look pretty funny being launched downtown.

Thanks Travis and Idol Minds for a great game!

Posted on 12.02.07 11:44 AM by grooveska

I just got a couple character ideas! How about having a bomb guy. A big bomb with arms and legs that explodes if you get a super ooch!

One more idea for a character is a skeleton whose bones scatter everywhere!

And a lego city theme would be awesome cuz you can destroy everything!

Posted on 12.02.07 11:51 AM by adam_thewarrior

I know this will probably ignored amongst all the other thousands of suggestions, but what about Las Vegas or a Las Vegas-esque type city. Think of all the signs you could place. Plus you could have a giant slot machine that we could hit and if you got the jackpot it would give you more points.

Either that or you could put the rolling slots on a building with a big button beside it and we would have to hit the button to get them rolling. Also a giant roulette wheel would be cool to spin around and get thrown out of.

Travis,

Can you elaborate on this:

blog.wired.com/games/2007/12/sony-uses-pain.html

I don't know how I feel about this...

What does everyone think?

Posted on 12.02.07 15:18 PM by Christopher

To Christopher:

So what? It is Sony's game so if they want to advertise in the game that is their right.

Posted on 12.02.07 15:22 PM by adam_thewarrior

Christopher, I think in game advertising is great, if done properly. Sports games, racing games, and yes, PAIN, can seamlessly integrate advertising into the game without being annoying. There are billboards in PAIN, and those can be used to advertise new PSN games, movies, drinks, whatever. It doesn't bother me one bit.

Look at it this way - companies have been doing advertising in movies and TV shows for years, and besides the obvious mentions in some reality shows, most of the time it's not evident this is being done. It's usually a pop can on a table while a family is eating, or a logo on a computer - does it wreck your viewing of the show/movie? Probably not. People see "advertising" and associate it with popups on websites, but it's going to be closer to movies/TV than the web.

I'd rather see new advertisements in PAIN than the same billboard over and over.

Gord

Thanks for the responses. I agree it can add "new life" to a game. I just hope we won't be launching the Domino's Noid anytime soon... or maybe that would be cool...

hmmm...

LOL

Posted on 12.02.07 15:49 PM by Christopher

I really hope there are at least some free Themes because the game has only 1 now.I like the game but if you have to pay for every little thing i may move on to something else.

this game is great and i love everything about it!! I really appreciate you guys keeping us updated too

Posted on 12.02.07 19:49 PM by Yopark

What an amazing game.
A game my girlfriend actually loves playing as well (the 1st PS3 game she can really play), I have to hit her over the head with a frying pan just to pry the Controller out of her vice grip.
I am not bothered by the $.99 it cost to purchase Cookie, she's a hot little vixen (CANDY CANE!!!!lol)
As soon as I saw the billboard for the Amusment Park, I was tickled pink.
I would be okay with in game ads on the billboards if I was able to say...download more content for no charge depending on how many ads I viewed in game or something. However, I think it would be a good idea to allow people to opt out of this option if they wanted.
I think you should throw a llama in the game for good measure, everybody loves llamas. Multi-play would be real crazy if you could go head to head and launch right next to someone while connected to the network.
How about incorporating the soon to be released PS HOME somehow, using the custom created avatars would be crazy, be able to speak over a bluetooth headset while launching next to your buddy would be cool. My girlfriend wants more structures that fall apart to give lots of points when you hit it, more hidden spots like the subway underground, and more things that go boom.

With that said, can't wait for the next level.

OOCH!!@#$%!@

Posted on 12.02.07 22:17 PM by adam_thewarrior

Hi Travis,

After a few "Painful" days (wow, sorry, bad pun) it seems as if people are finally getting on board with the DLC! Great job! It's going to be exciting.

I have a great suggestion for a Trophy.

I have been playing video games for 29 years and only BOOGERMAN for the Sega Genesis has addressed my fascination with the art of farting. I know there are MANY others like me out there. We are an un-tapped market (semi bad pun). There needs to be a trophy or even a whole category of fart accomplishments! Maybe even a fart leader board. Think of it!

Thank you and your genius team for giving me back the satisfaction of virtual farting.

Posted on 12.03.07 01:15 AM by DougHeffernan

This game is amazing! Since buying it last Thursday, my friends and I haven't been able to keep away from it! We played the game, bowling 90% of the time, for at least 40 hours over the first 4 days. Nothing beats the multiplayer in this game. The single player is fun, but PAINbowling and Horse is where it's at. I can't wait to mess up new levels! I assume when they come out, they will all have Spank the Monkey and Mime Toss in them, as well as new setups for bowling (they really should). More types of games would be great. I don't care if you get online multiplayer on the go for this game, I'd rather high-five one of my buddies sitting on the opposite side of the couch when we tag team the other guy in the middle with a Manhole and Crane in bowling to shut him out. You should probably make a post solely for recommendations, that could make all this easier to sort and read through. I believe separate players should be able to select different characters for multiplayer games too, which would work well with my next idea. A new game where 2 or more players can all launch for targets on various walls and the ground. Each target painted on surfaces for you to grab onto. A player gets the points painted inside the target if they can hold onto that target for an allotted time, say 10 seconds. To make scoring better, you would generally make the walls worth more and the ground targets worth less. On the defensive side of things, each other player can make a launch at the scoring player to try and knock him off. The defense would have to grab him to haul him down, and possibley grab and super-ooch to toss them away from the scoring area, or to a lesser scoring area. So each player has their own launcher to launch simultaneously if so please, or even have offensive player go first then the defensive players going after. I just imagine that it would be awesome to be holding onto a wall target, having characters launched at you and swinging out of the way with an ooch while grabbed, or even dropping to another target below or even swinging with an ooch and another grab to try and get a better target. Hope you like the idea. Any game where multiple people could launch and control different characters at the same time would be awesome. Thanks for the awesome game. - Gavin R Crewe

would anyone tell me how to onlock ed?
How do I bomb the mascot?

to pee wee u mean just restart? try to press select while u are in slingshot.... any one has "painfull tosser" trophy??? i dont know why i cant get it... i mean its not hard to break glass in every launch on normal stage...

Thanks for a great game. I am having a blast playing. Please open up the multiplayer for me to be able to practive in single player. I don't always have someone around to inflict PAIN on. Thanks. Also, How about playing HORSE against the computer in single player. Seems like an easy addon.

Posted on 12.04.07 03:00 AM by wayne

to peter: thats not what i mean, in the trphy room it says that to onlock Ed, you need to bomb the mascot 12 times, I try to throw myself on a kinda bomb with the mascot on the other side, I did more than 12 times but it didnt work, how do you bomb the mascot?

Posted on 12.04.07 03:09 AM by Pee_Wee

for ed u have to bomb him, throw crate at him....

Posted on 12.04.07 03:50 AM by Peter

try to grab whit left hand, that bomb, what is in first stage, where ed is walking around...

Posted on 12.04.07 03:56 AM by Peter

ok thanks

Posted on 12.04.07 06:50 AM by Pee_Wee

Online play would justify the $9.99 price tag. At the moment this game only lasted me about 30 minutes and I wanted more to blow up and throw around. I don't have anyone living with me so all of the multiplayer trophies are kind of lost to me unless I play with my self LOL uh anyway...

Please add online play, and please make the intro credits skipable (if you've finished the tutorial).

I really love the quality of this game. I have all the faith in the world that you guys are gonna make this into a buzz-machine that everyone will want to play once you add online vs (and maybe coop? Laughing).

Hey Travis!
I have a suggestion for a character.
Remember Crash Bandicoot?
Should be funny.
He would spin in the air and play with his yoyo.

Posted on 12.04.07 21:21 PM by Pee_Wee

dont know have to get so insane score,im starting to thing that there something isnt CLEAN,been playing this game since launch best i have is 2,9m,dont see any ways how to get 90m,i just cant believe that, till i see some proofs....

Posted on 12.04.07 21:21 PM by Picins

To get a really high score you can just stay in one position and keep getting hit by a car. If you don't grab the car it won't crash but stay in it's route always hitting you. It would take a long time but it will work. That's just one way to do it, if you have some free time..........

to Travis
there is rumours that Pain will be released in EU only next year,is that true? and can i/we know why? i think thats just pathetic and unfair...

Posted on 12.05.07 10:45 AM by Peter

Love the game, really great although it could have been faster (old school taste), anyway I think this game needs to get online play and a couple free fields/scenes to fully release its potential. Right now there's not enough gameplay for a single player. It's more fun with friends but you just can't host friends in your apartment just to play PAIN!

Keep up the good work, I really love the game.

Posted on 12.05.07 11:02 AM by R

To Peter/EU nobody's preventing you from accessing the US PS3 store and buying the game at $9.99 that's about 7 euros. I'm technically resident in the US although I bought my PS3 in Hong Kong and bought PAIN in France. Right now I'm playing it in Switzerland. There are no region codes for PS3 games at least on my system.

Posted on 12.05.07 11:07 AM by R

i know what u mean, but US store not taking all eu country CC,just only few, like mine from uk it dont wants to take, but it takes my mates who livs in other eu country... i mean i do have this game, just would like to know why so late eu release???

Posted on 12.05.07 11:24 AM by Peter

This game is worth the 10 bucks, and I agree that online multiplayer needs to be the focus. Another thing I would like to see is the access to my music in game, I mean use released bowling with it if i'm not mistaken.

thanks for a pleasantly different game.

Posted on 12.05.07 19:06 PM by gamenut6659

For those of your still trying to figure out where the 44 million scores are coming from in aftermath- there is a bug where you get stuck in a girder and just keep getting points until you quit. I made it happen twice with Cookie (don't know if it works with other chars) by launching at the bowling ball and hanging on, then I got stuck in a girder on the way down. I'm posting this because I hope they fix this soon and wipe the leaderboards, as it invalidates the whole point.

I dont know if you read all the comments, but I want to share mine. This game is awesome. My girlfriend does not play the ps3 at all. She did try heavenly sword and it was fun, but she asks me to play pain all the time. Her favorite is bowling. I really hope you do bowling on all the levels you create. Second my brother does not play the ps3 because it has too many buttons. He came over and he played it for 2 hours. How awesome is that? Two people who do not play video games are playing pain and really enjoying it.

One gripe about bowling is the mimes. Yes it is harder since they duck and jump from you, but I think it takes away from the fun. Im hoping the next bowling you do with another level leaves the mimes out. Just stick with the pins please. Secondly is online play. I would love to be able to play this online as im sure the last couple hundred people said.

Besides that one gripe, it is a fantastic game. On some future levels maybe you could design levels where we could fly through windows and go inside of buildings? I know you can in downtown, but its pretty limited. I would love to smash through a tall building and take out some people sitting at a desk. Keep up the gr
